Once upon a time,
there was a girl who was consumed by cigarette smoke.
She loved the feeling of inhaling
death each time she took a puff.  Maybe all she wanted to be was
death and
that's why she kept lighting butts.
Cigarette smokes are the clouds I hide in

The dusty roads stretch out for miles
There are only strangers and nobody smiles
They hurry with around with heads bowed down
And scuttle along in this lonely town
But every thing here is white, grey, and black
And every thing of excitement we conspicuously lack
I walk here alone and dream of some laughter
To meet someone warm to save me from this disaster.

Silver and diamond dance on the turquoise ocean
I drift and sway with the gentle motion
The sun shines like a great beacon in the sky
While all around my I watch the seagulls fly
The wind whistles in my ear and tugs at my hair
I stand with my arms out stretched entranced in a snare
I am turning 18
On a cliff edge

I see nothing before me

If take one step forward I'm afraid I will fall
into a vast, empty desert

no path, no directions, no map to keep me safe

As a child I looked ahead, thought I'd known my way,
have it all figured out for the arrival of the day
Doctor, teacher, lawyer,
writer,
It seemed simple at the time

But I am turning 18
On a cliff edge,
and I'm terrified.
