“I am not going to be the person
I am expected to be anymore”

I heard this thought and was
Kind of blown away
Making me question
All sorts of things
Like…

Who do I expect me to be?
Who do others expect me to be?
Am I
Daughter
Wife
Lover
Do I even care?
What do these labels even mean?
Why can’t I label me Friend?
Is there anything expected of
An acquaintance?
I am trying on new labels

Poet
Writer

Whatever the label
Poet, daughter, wife, maybe even friend
These masks sit a little uncomfortably upon me
And…

What of the unspoken and often unseen labels

Broken
Weird
Crazy

Do these fit me any better?

I don’t think I have ever been
The person others expected

Certainly not myself!

How extraordinary!
“I’m not going to be the person
I am expected to be anymore”

Heard this in a commercial and it hit a nerve
Someone asked me to post an old poem and I give others the option of posting an older poem that touched them - it is a lovely experience

Just for Today....
My smile came easier
I laughed more freely
I liked myself just a little bit
Causing a certain calm, peace, and warm glow

Just for Today...
I had a golden moment

There is hope for tomorrow

Respectful disagreement
is much more compassionate than
disrespectful agreement*
could ever even hope to be.
Who would Jesus ****
to spread the good word?

Who would Jesus silence
that he may be heard?

To whom would Jesus feign alliance
that he may gain vain status
within a vapid heard?

See what I'm sayin'?

I'm no Christian,
but I respect the mythology of Christ.
He's quite the selfless archetype.
God in Man's clothing;
better **** it
before it makes us look bad
thus making us look bad,
but oh well. Who's keeping score?

I well recall encouraging
in the early days,
sending messages to and from,
what was beyond and in between,
what lay between a woman's
wind tossed
heart
and her
breathless, winded,
words

these spaces,
so wonderfully human
and fine,
that we better
recognize
their existence
in ourselves,
through her words

motives purely
selfish, then, I guess,
words pearly,
gifted and given,
how we find the same language,
forges all
our contexts,
with a binding grace,
that elevates us all
beyond and un-between,
above
life's grays

I well recall the
rare, early days here,
when communitas was the
only guiding principle,
seldom was heard
a discouraging word,
how sharing each other's
innermost,
was
the most,
the finest,
expression of the ultimate humanity
inner,
that we choose to accept,
when wearing the
poetry cloak,
a notional emotional
grace
supra-national
in a shared world heritage site,
that no one poet could ever hope to obtain alone

I thank you
once more,
one more,
time and time again,
for the bloom
of your rose,
gifted to all we
itinerant dabblers,
in a world where
words and will,
literary and love,
transforms and re-forms
each other
with the constancy-frequency
glowing alliteration of
an early morn Florida sunrise

you are among the best of us,
we will brook
no,
this denying,
keep us together,
be the poetic glue,
the ganglia connecting us,
this ragtag band
of brothers
and
sisters,

after all this
are we,
not the lucky ones
who read, observe, feel,
and love the special aura of
the poetess

Tomorrow the baseball Hall of Fame will announce the newest members selected to join her hallowed hall.  Ken Griffey Jr.  will surely be selected.

I wish Hello Poetry had a Hall Of Fame. There are so many poets and good friends worthy of.

In absence of, I wish to nominate the following poets for the first class when and if it is ever created. My criteria for selection to this Hello Poetry Hall of Fame are:

Forgive me if your name is not listed. In no way am I suggesting HP create a hall of fame, because it already has one, and every poet who met my criteria above is already a member.

A New Beginning
Can happen any time
Any where
And at any age

A new beginning is
The dawn of a new day
Or a new year
From one moment to the next
It is an opportunity
To start anew
If one has the courage and
The drive to capture
And willingly grasp this change
To make new dreams
And then make those
Dreams come true…

A new beginning
Whispers of wishes and dreams
As the morning sunlight
Gently kisses me good morning
Filling my soul with delight
I dare to take flight
In a new direction
