Multi-colored candles
Melting wax tear drops
Between candied letters
Staining soft white icing
Frosting covered sadness
Felt in layer upon layer
Sliced open to reveal
Pre-heated emotions
Empty and hollow
Baking memories
No sugar coating

3:15 am…blurred red numbers tell as
I stir, reaching for what I have seen,
grasping for the moments spent in the presence of beauty
as once again you have visited me in a dream…

Pure white flowing whispered fabrics and butterfly trails
awash of waterfalls cascading and mountain top zephyrs,
rock face delights collect on horizons of hope
as softness frames your luminescent face

My eyes focus in the darkness
as your touch remains real on my skin
I am still while stars sleep in crescent moon hammocks
How can this be, I am alone, yet I was not, for I could see

You were searching for me,
barefoot on lush green vistas, daisy paths and buttercup drops
neath cotton candy clouds suspended
above echoes of love songs harmonizing with our heart beats

Night outside my window keeps time in silent motions,
slowly sweeping breezes form rhythmic patterns
and poetry settles upon my body
as I continue to write within my now awakened mind

Destiny beckons in fruited winds
as chocolate eyes find luscious views of nature’s majesty
Your skins glows of spring blooms in petal’d bliss
and opal desires in the warmth of the day

But I had found you…you had found me…
my desperate wanderings have shown me the prize, illumined the joy
lingering in your smile…your eyes
your touch which stays with me even as I lay alone…still dreaming

Sun beamed passions follow you, caress you in
dancing shadows of flowing brown hair
breathing of morning glory skies
and shimmering dragonfly wings

At this early hour, with an apricot moon peering through the curtains
and these words which have found me
playing among my thoughts, I now realize
that my every dream is you...you are my poetry

5:37 am

5:37 am…the morning is silent,
eerily so that I can hear nothing
louder than I ever have before
Not a bird sings as the sun still sleeps
outside of this four walled solitude
Slowly drinking a cup of coffee,
wondering why I even exist

5:42 am…staring into the dark spaces
surrounding my mind like elastic memories
While I write these words
of absolutely no reason,
as if they will heal somehow, take the pain
scatter it upon horizons
that no longer have meaning

5:46 am…somehow I enjoy this silence
Seeing my shadow below,
head in hands on the surface of my desk,
painting charcoal pictures of loneliness,
listening to key strokes breaking the quiet,
hoping this faux ink erases the past,
yet I believe nothing can…5:51 am

Sluggish, my eyes barely focus,
headlights seem faint
through this cracked windshield
in heavy traffic, bending lanes
with detour signs collecting travelers
like gas station snow globes,
displayed in between blurred white lines

Monstrous *** holes shake me awake
from the thoughts crawling
deep within a weary mind,
a casualty of a night to forget
which will not soon be forgotten
as digital numbers, glaring red
catch my eye and I see…5:38

Darkness engulfs the cab of this truck,
dash lights cringe and flash hypnotically,
out of round tires draw skid marks
on a lonely winding pavement
As my feet fall through the floor boards,
scraping on glass shard encrusted asphalt
bleeding beyond the speed limit

White knuckles grip the wheel
while doors become giant guillotines,
slashing at faux leather seats, exposing rancid foam leaking
battery acid on the engine’s severed heads
Everything begins to spin, losing control,
a bright flash and I shift to see…5:39
and the sun comes out presenting a beautiful day
Don't ask...

A bloom is not forgotten for its fragrance lingers on
Captured in the morning dew that plays upon the lawn
Delicate the petals when no longer we do find
Still its beauty follows us forever in our mind

The melodies of nightingales within the trees do sing
Until the time they wander off, the wind beneath their wings
When off into the distance finds these birds no longer near
Still their song it plays its tune that we shall always hear

On the beach we build a castle very tall and fine
Made of tiny grains of sand this summer day we find
And even when the tide does wash away our grand surprise
Still we find the magic it does play upon our eyes

When the sun is setting out along the western shore
The warmth upon our skin we felt, we come to want once more
Now as the darkness falls and this new day does turn to night
Still we can remember that the sun was shining bright

As we turn the pages in the brand new book we read
Every new found place into our minds we slowly feed
Coming to the last page and “The End” the words do say
Still we find the story it shall never go away

A bloom is not forgotten for its fragrance lingers on
Captured in the morning dew that plays upon the lawn
But like its beauty this I see when you come into view
I can’t forget a blossom that’s as perfect as are you

Soft leaves underfoot, mosaics of nature
Sleeping in shadows of yawning maples
Beneath these stretching branches I roam
Foot steps in rhythm with a woodpecker’s cadence
Humming to the harmony of dawn’s cool breeze

Sunlight weaves past distant mountain peaks
Warming my face, enhancing my vision
Miles evaporate like morning dew
Moments become an ever changing serenity
For happiness waits at the end of this journey

Clear water’s race between glistened stone
I splash my face in anticipation of a new day
Dreaming of her on an Adirondack kind of morning
Following a path through the mirrors of my thoughts
Listening for the endless echoes of love

Peaceful vistas beckon my heart’s desires
Cleansing my soul in lilac wanderings
Breathing the air of solitude affection
Knowing this sunrise lifts her from sleep
Praying her first thought is of me

A few minutes more
He has said in a whisper
Promising hope
From the depths of his heart

Pulling the thread
So it sits ever tighter
Finding the end
As a new place to start

Counting the hours
They add up so many
Checking his watch
As the sun seems to set

Pulling the moon
From the arms that now hold it
Praying for rain
As that’s all he can get

Kicking a stone
Near a clock that is ticking
Rhythms his mind
Will now come soon to play

Searching for words
While the second hand passes
Come to expect
At the end of the day

Life is so short
Though he brings up the answer
Nothing is more
Than a heart tied with love

Calling to all
As if anyone listens
A few minutes more
He now shouts up above

A few minutes more

“A few minutes more?”
he has asked in a whisper
Promising hope
from the depths of his heart

Pulling the thread
so it sits ever tighter
Finding the end
as a new place to start

Counting the hours,
for they add up so many
Checking his watch
as the sun seems to set

Pulling the moon
from the arms that now hold it
Praying for rain,
as that’s all he can get

Kicking a stone
near the sand quickly leaking
Rhythms his mind,
will now come soon to play

Searching for words,
while the second hand passes
What he expects
at the end of the day

Life is so short,
though he brings up the answer,
“Nothing is more
than a heart lost of love”

Calling to all,
as if anyone listens,
“A few minutes more?”
he now shouts up above

Broken thoughts invade my mind
Atop an asphalt parking lot
In phrases I've since left behind
A few of them so long forgot

Still in between this yellow stripe
Where tired treads have left their mark
And apricots have tasted ripe
I stand here thinking in the dark

What comes of this in future days
When time has gone and love appears
Two hearts collide in full display
And happiness deletes the fears

If sunny skies are all we see
Beyond the edge of weathered fence
Will you now stroll along with me
Regardless of a past offence

Then come, let's run this narrow path
Your hand in mine, no time to wait
And live affection's aftermath
Before the time does get too late

Afloat on the water
A shiny canoe
The morning is quiet
Fresh and so new
The current does take us
Where ever it may
Afloat on the water
On this autumn day

Afloat on the water
Blue skies above
Serene and so simple
A picture of love
Sounds of the morning
A sweet red bird’s tune
Afloat on the water
Moments in bloom

Afloat on the water
Cool in the breeze
Slowly adrift
Beautiful trees
Lilies pad borders
Cattails stand tall
Afloat on the water
No place at all

Afloat on the water
A bright shining sun
Peaceful endeavor
Happy and fun
Comfortable sailing
Smooth as can be
Afloat on the water
Alive and so free

Afloat on the water
Nowhere to go
You in my arms
Follow the flow
Not one single worry
Breathe in the air
Afloat on the water
Nary a care

Afloat on the water
Easy and slow
Holding you close
Never let go
This is our morning
Such beauty to see
Afloat on the water
Just you and me

If I could find a way
to turn the hands
of time
I’d pick you up,
yesterday
to see what we could find

Perhaps a scenic setting
a nice secluded beach
Sandy shores,
tropical,
if this
your mind would ease

Stepping through a portal
looking in reverse,
penning something
quickly
in the form
of verse

Over-pack your luggage,
forward all your mail
You will find
an island waits…
together
we will sail

And if I find a way
to give the clock a spin
I’ll set it back,
by just a day,
we’ll do it all
again

Scattered on dusty winds
Zephyrs of despair
Saddened wings of ashen crows
Grey skies
Morn the sorrow
That weighs down your heart
On lonely ground
With folded arms
And defiant whispers

Still the softness
Of your soul
Flies in circular wisdom
Sailing to new heights
Catching the breeze
Of wishing wonders
Under your arms
For that day shall come
When you smile…again

Somber waves flood charcoal skies
This morn does fell my day
Misty forms in shadowed dreams,
an ominous display

Chilled, the breeze now grips my face
as moisture coats my skin
Shivers at their highest reach
call out to me again

Willow branches bend in shame,
sorrow feeds the ground
Leaves in silhouette now trace
confusion all around

Clouds a’ gathered blackened roof
A blanket at the sun
Pointing towards a northern point
Alas my world is done

When there, along horizon’s stare
I sense the faintest smile
Of auburn charm and beauty share
To linger here a while

As ashen skies now seem to part
This pain of longest dread
Depression cast upon my heart
Now heals in scars I shed

To breathe again, this morning free
A smile upon my face
Consume this feeling calling me
No more in fractured lace

So long I’ve hidden in the past
Awaiting only dying
Yet now with this affection cast
In new found truth I’m trying

As now I stand neath skies of blue
Bright sunshine up above
Gazing at the sight of you
Alas my world is love

A heart waits

While sifting through the questions
piled high in a mountain of doubt,
reaching heights beyond belief
and scraping ceilings of torment

A heart waits…

Now tiring quickly, loosing strength,
finding the walk longer than you expected
Closing one eye to find the other does not see
and falling to dark corners of fear

A heart waits…

As volume amasses upon weakened shoulders,
and pain breaches the avenue
of store front sale signs
on locked door close outs

A heart waits…

When it all seems too much,
memos become lists of forever paper,
words scratched in blood ink
of empty pens spilling

A heart waits…

If you have found that point
where your mind says no more
and you feel that nothing will ever be enough,
please remember…

A heart waits…and that heart is mine

Above the alabaster clouds,
and ever changing canvas skies
Along a stream of golden pearls,
encased in dreams and wayward sighs

Of glowing share and sunset cues,
where fate does fold on satin sheet
Beside the ripples carved in time
with effervescent moments sweet

There waits for you in splendored joy
that which you seek on endless days
To light the way of darkened shore
a path through oleander haze

Where held so tight with fingers pure
in crimson robe of pristine style
By one who lives within your heart

I’ve lifted the mask of the blind man now seeing
Pulled on the feathers of long disbelief
Sang in a chorus of tinsel town preachers
Cried on the steps running sadness and grief

Fortunes now hang from the branch at eleven
Filling the fist of a fighter at ease
Using a voice that will tell us no reason
Wandering off if you happen to please

Drink from the fountain of youth in the city
Run down the street shouting heaven is near
Fueling the feast as your system is dreaming
Laughing your hardest while facing your fear

Stuffing your pockets with brand new adventures
Settling down on the porch in the swing
Floating so gently my arms now around you
In my desires the storm it shall bring

Words now concocted to alter their meaning
So you may peer in my heart up above
Verses now sent from the edge of tomorrow
Only to whisper forever my love

Clinging to hope that your soul it is knowing
All that I am shall be yours now to keep
Juggling forth and now back my decision
All on a course but to find some relief

Taken to the shadows, amass the frozen fall
Dreams of darkened hours sing
fresh in every mindset, placing avenues in the past

Brick and mortar tendencies
build a fortress around your heart,
as every nightfall wisdom
or sound against the rail, echoes in trust

Footprints in the snow…forward and back again
Never once a closed eye, an unclenched fist,
as I, the lone silhouette against your stained glass fears
stand firmly at the gate of brass and forged steel,
tarnished by weather but steady as devotion,
protecting you from the deepest of harm

Seeking nothing…not an ounce of peace,
for this role is now my destiny, my soul surrender
to a heart that beats within my own existence
in melodic undertones of poetic truths

And I gaze upon the winter moon, shining its light
upon your beauty, which I have come to long
in visions of my own shortcomings…alone

Around the world I search for you
Before the sun does rise
Creating such a wondrous view
Debuted for my eyes

Each moment that I come to share
Facing towards the east
Grabbing hold of everything
However I may see

Insisting that you take my hand
Joining in the song
Knowing you will understand
Listening all along

Many times I want to cry
Nothing seems to ease
Others tend to wander by
Pretending to appease

Quietly I search for you
Reaching for a star
Stating but my point of view
Taking it too far

Understand the way I feel
Verify the lot
When will all of this be real
X does mark the spot

You alone do take my heart

Wearing a smile, feeling quite happy
Lost in a world where my heart knows it’s true

Pristine of visions the world it might be
In colors afforded the eye
Waterfall vistas forever to see
Underneath violet skies

Roses a’ bloom in the gardens of spring
Pebbles awash on the shore
Bluebirds of summer, the songs that they sing
Valleys of green ever pure

Oceans majestic in aqua marine
Mountaintops capped white with snow
Slowly meandering crystal clear streams
All through our life they do flow

Still they lie pale in accordance to truth
Fragrant the scent of romance
Deep in your eyes is where I find the proof
All in a meaningful glance

So many years have drained,
slowly taking what was once mine
scattering it over endless thoughts and memories
And I wonder why, where has it all gone…
Silver finds locks once dark,
muscles speak in much louder tones

Sleep is something of youthful moments
and nightmares wrap me where once bloomed orchids

Coming down that mountain…stumbling,
gazing on the valley below, green and lush,
envying those who still smile,
holding hands and drinking of life
one happy sip at a time
from that half full glass held next to their hearts

Not a drop spilled on their dance floor,
mixing with saw dust and erratic footprint designs

A tear finds my cheek, lonely as it is
asking what did it mean, why has loved passed me by
Nary a wave or a nod, eyes fixed elsewhere
Am I hideous…the thought has crossed my mind…why did I just grin,
did something soft touch me and I didn’t notice,
until now…perhaps

There’s that word again…seems overused
though it hasn’t been spoken in ages

Entering that final path, winding…tiring so
but a spring in the old step, a bounce found in place of a crawl
“Sweet the fragrant air doth find me of you”
Why did I just say that, and in a voice I hadn’t heard in so long
Seems to be singing…and it is me…me
and funny…I hear harmony

So it has come, the voices of my past belting out a few notes
into the mind of crab cake crumbles and starched socks

Yet it is not in my head, it is on the wind…a cool breeze of song
wafts along aged skin and tickles…and I laugh at the feeling
When she appears from a field of lavender, different yet perfect,
beautiful eyes, lips…I must be going insane…they said it would happen…madness
Then she smiles at me and I smile back, could this be….love…me
Taking my hand we run…yes run…uphill…and I feel free

Reaching in my pocket I pull out the four leaf clover
I found when I was twelve and whisper…”Took you long enough”

Taken while you wept on clustered fears of empty dreams,
broken remnants shuttered as in some storm cloud cellar
and yet the pain seeps through tiny cracks
invading every pore, seeking that which keeps fracturing

Puddles form at frozen feet, unable to move, chilled of anguish,
sub-zero burdens slither their way into the mind’s pathways,
hiding in corners, darkened at angular positions,
wedges of meeting points sheltering these evil thoughts

Falling on tender knees, hands clenched, pleading on tear drop pages
Emotions, these concrete wishes stained on thin lines
appear from chained memories, tethered to branchless trees,
striking swiftly as I watch your heart shatter…

into a million tiny pieces on the floor…and I with it

Sun filled skies ignite the trees in colorful array
Of falling leaves and scented pine, November on display
The beauty that does meet our eyes so comforts all we see
A Sunday drive, uncharted roads, together you and me

A softer breeze we shall not feel, the wind about our hair
On journeys off to anywhere the two of us shall share
Scenery of heaven sent down every road we drive
Your hand in mine, a favorite song, so glad that we’re alive

Majestic oaks, their leaves of gold, create our solitude
So many years their world has been amongst the harvest moons
Blue sky dreams and dragonflies, the magic that we find
Pumpkin patches line the country streets on which we wind

Love is our companion, constant, everywhere we go
Precious is the feeling as we take in nature’s show
On this early morning as the world does seem to shine
Enjoying every moment with a true love that is mine

There, a happy flock of geese upon a lake they play
Let’s get out and walk a while, take in the wondrous day
Along a path, we stroll the edge, the splendor of it all
Listen as we hear the geese, their early morning call

An autumn day, the sun is bright and you are here with me
Nothing in the scene can show more beauty than I see
When I look into your eyes reflecting skies above
And feel the happiness they bring by showing me your love

We were meant to be right here, wherever this may be
Hand in hand in nature’s home, a feeling oh so free
Or anywhere that we may roam, whatever day does start
For destiny is in control and you are in my heart

Found on the corner of sleeping dogs lie
Came to the spotlight with one crooked eye
Painted a portrait in spite of the light
Hoping the canvas was centered and tight

Poured off the foam before going to bed
It’s easy to sleep when you don’t have a head
Dreams are the reason I tend to escape
Picking up pieces that fell off the cake

Coupled with sailors now off on a trip
Some sunken treasure on some sunken ship
Last time the cannons did roar at the sea
Green was the canvas of the canopy

Blown into port with a quart in your bag
Looking quite close at the half masted flag
Wondering who might have swam with the fish
And ended up sinking and getting their wish

The mist in the air hung so thick on the ground
The bell in the lighthouse could broadcast the sound
Ringing that rang as the tide wandered in
As night storms from southern most points did begin

Anchors were dropped to the depths of the deep
Big leaks were fixed but the little ones seeped
Batons were hatched or whatever that means
Opening gaps welded closed at the seams

Swabbing the deck seemed like pure wasted time
As buckets were emptied with rain in the sky
Sails were pulled down, pulled in, put away
While clouds housed a marvelous lightening display

A bottle of *** and a parrot named bill
They drank and they sang until they had their fill
When off now to sleep they did fall with a thud
Tomorrow the war and the spilling of blood

The enemies’ close they could feel in their bones
Because of the bank and some late payment loans
They shuffled us off to some brightly lit rooms
And offered low interest in brand new doubloons

They had us signing here page after page
As if fountain pens were just coming of age
Now put them away this place sure is a mess
Or move them to somebody else’s address

If the dog is not home and the cats on the chair
Licking his tail with the long flowing hair
For after this voyage we look up above
And whisper a poem that doesn’t speak love

Ancient wounds ~ Comet wishes

Bleeding from these ancient wounds
Falling to the earth below
Mud red, blood red, softening the ground
My footprints ache in format patterns

So long the wounds, of age defined,
Dripping masses in the mist
Marked for life, while a beating heart
pumps eternal fluid fears

Watching as the puddles grow,
round at first and then obscure
Fading faster than the sun
on its westward trek of daylight shadows

Weak…I find my eyes they stare
off into the crowning moon
Beams of effervescent glow
shroud me in unknown pleasures

Rising above the crusted mounds
Light as any whispered breeze
Words now call in sweet caress
Melodies of past preferred ring

Lyrics sung to me and me alone
A language that my soul does speak
Piano keys in blended black and white
string together lasting impressions

Symphonies of a healing concerto
press upon my quivered skin
Scars now dance at the revival
and still my feet don’t find the floor

My hand is touched, fingers moved
Warmth embraces this awkward grip
as peace flows, smooth, soft, subtle
through my veins

The bleeding has ceased
Disappeared among comet wishes
and my heart, once silent, now sings
in harmony with her voice…and I dream

And I choose to breathe

And I choose to breathe for every breath is free
Calmly bound of tempted drizzled fears
Slow dancing on the desperate dying wind
Placing endless hope against the flow

This does come
beyond iron gates of broken trances
to sing
undying wishes upon the deaf ears

Fractured in meanings and senses known,
these wrinkles form a flavored mask
Donned in apprehension of a wilted feeling
Sleek and slender, along a poisoned vine they grow

Challenging
in endless streams of sorted need
Stead fast
with chains of charmed tethered truth

Cartoon headstones with scribbled crayon’d names
cast darker shadows beneath the edges of sanity
Ripped and tattered these empty voices scream
my name in echoes bearing nothing more than seen

As I cry
my tears sprout wings and flee from my face
to my knees
finding only the jagged earth to rest

Desires cling to the massive arbors of life
Dreams falter along a winding creviced cliff
Nothing laughs like the air upon my sorrowed face
and I choose to breathe for every breath is free

And I fall…down

As the sunset of life reaches out to me
in marmalade swirls…orange sherbet dreams
I follow in loose footsteps,
not sure of the bridges I cross
or those burned in the process

Alone I stumble on braided pebbles,
scattered on this serpentine path,
feeding my mind with thoughts
Peering back on what was,
crying when your picture finds me

Dark tangerine tints line the sky now
for the day…this day…my life
shall soon disappear beyond the horizon
Fading to a tiny speck,
hiding in plain sight where no one can see…or care

Finality sings its sad melody
in fractured bar chords and minor notes
As I again find you invading my soul,
reaching down from my heart,
the place you still reside

And I whisper I am sorry…for the pain
Collections of hurt I did not realize I carried
beneath shiny bows and pretty paper
Sending you away from me…my precious gift,
the loss of all that was me…you

Quicker my steps drive
to that straight line illusion beckoning
Darker still as minutes pass
for I know this end is mine alone
as the moon crests the sea and I fall…down

And I ~ cling to a fortress
of endless temptation
with rings made of gold
and a tree built of life

Faltering corners
in new found dimensions
a little left over
but so very nice

Clinging to them

And I ~ search in a fountain
with quarters for feelings
so far neath the waters
my song sings alone

On sea shells and posters
of rock concert heroes
with hair like a Sheppard
to call the sheep home

Calling to all

And I ~ call to the mountains
in echoes of sailors
with waves in the morning
and snowcaps at night

Floating horizons
alone on the wishes
that winds will prevail
and make everything right

Sailing again

And I ~ lean on a valley
of tree lines and saucers
with cups filled with coffee
to taste when it’s due

With smiles forever
and words down on paper
with love as my meaning
I write them ~ for you

Sunlight shines through your window
Warmth embraces your wintered skin
Radiance of nature’s kiss
You feel it…

Music plays this early morning hour
Melodies fill the room with sound
Lifting your weary spirits
You hear it…

A smile that glows of wondrous beauty
Enchanting and eternally contagious
Sending hearts a’ flutter
You show it…

Coffee is freshly brewed and hot
A welcomed companion at dawn
Slowly pouring yourself a cup
You taste it…

Spring is waiting on the chilly horizon
Blues skies and fragrant blooms are not far off
Butterflies are soon to awaken
You sense it…

Silky beaches with turquoise waters
Margaritas in romantic locations
Resting in the shade of a majestic palm
You dream it…

Poetry appears on a flickering screen
Wonderful words to entice your mind
Verses in flowery fonts and design
You see it…

Even though I haven’t told you
I adore you more than all of these things
And I sincerely hope
You know it…

And my smile grows…of you

When clouded days appear
yet still I find sunshine is brightly filling each corner of my heart
glowing with every thought that illumines me… of you

“Your light finds me through a the dense charcoal mist”

When winds blow a’ gusty scattering of dust,
as I find the air sweet as magnolia petals saved in my pocket,
brings me the unforgettable fragrance… of you

“The sweet breath of your nature flows over me”

When soaring heat batters my crimson skin,
but the cool breeze of love soothes my sunburned shoulders
in affections softly flowing from the fingertips...of you

“Cool spring zephyrs wrap your love about my body”

When I sit in a darkened space, alone with only my dreams
and a teardrop finds my cheek in a glistened falling line
happily, as I relive each eternal memory…of you

I have stood on aging avenues
watching walls crumble
while destiny’s debris
collects
at my feet

pieces of the past?

I have heard the laughter of babies
and the wail of the homeless,
opposites in a
straight line of
what is
and what might be

voices of the future?

I have stared into the portals of
left over meanings,
methodically
laid out to rest
on long tables
of bad intents

visions cast of shadows?

I have knelt before a dream,
clutching my chest
with indecision,
the pain
a reminder of my
fragile heart-
opened

memories of lost love?

I have cried
without a witness,
empty streams of
dense forgiveness,
requested of no one
and answered by the same

and nothing remains?
