Kobayashi Issa
Summer night--
even the stars
are whispering to each other.
Eriko Aug 2018
my love
my bones
my eyes
and teeth
and skin
and feet
a hearth
in the pit of my stomach
have built
a new
home

drink in light
as if sipping soup
spoonful after each
steaming spoonful,
the smell of herbs fill the nose
and tastes rich on the tongue
on a cold, cold night
where you can barely
hold your rattling,
aching bones
drink in the good
like soup

welcome back,
my sweetness
spoke my hair
sighed my eyes
as I eased, climbed back
into the familiarity of my skin
I have missed you
glanced my hips
battered my eyes
touched my lips
you are home, back
to you now
my bones smiled
my muscles cradled
my soreness slowly ceased
and I breathed

At a very young age
I realized I was pocketed,
Rendered with vacancies
In these pockets, I’ve filled
With light—with companionship,
With family, with art and color
And adventures and foolishness
And regrets and difficulty
And confusion and dreams
And a whole lot of life

i want to feel pink and in love,
i want to drink tea and watch the rain tumble down my window,
i want to feel the cool breeze and my baby hairs go flying,
i want to write poetry and feel good,
i want to write for others and for myself,
i want to be heard yet not too much,
i want to feel free but not too much,
i want to travel the world and be an artist and walk on wet rocks barefoot and sleep on bamboo-mat floors and climb mountains and i do not want to do my homework.

German is a harsh language
An opinion that prevails
A strong rolled “R”
Noises, making you think
Something is stuck down your throat
Talking, in everlasting anger

Let me tell you something
Let me introduce you
To the beauty of the German language
To the words of “Wanderlust”, “Weltschmerz” or “Geborgenheit”
Many words so unique

Their meaning poetic
Using them yet so difficult
Listen to us closely and you will find out
German is not German
It comes in many forms
It varies by the region, state, country

Every form has its own character
Every accent has its own thrill
Determinable in the way it’s spoken
And sometimes hard to understand
Differences so great,
Yet compromised in a single tongue

Reconsider,
German is not as harsh as you think
No anger lies in our tone
Nothing is stuck down our throat
And spoken by the right person
It can be quite melodic
Trying to overcome the stereotypes...
