As sunlight spread across the floor
and crawled over the rustled sheets
that you hid beneath,
your heart swelled
and your mind emptied
to accommodate the possibilities of the day.
Your fingers started walking toward the door,
taking your cover with them.
Upright your frame sat, then
through the doorway your eager feet danced.
Into the invigorating sunlight,
over the liberating grass that had grown
to comfort the soft skin of your toes as you
chase down the daylight
and gave new meaning to the word
"glow."

With eyes that see as they should
and all other senses discernibly intact,
you ache to understand what you're missing,
what could have been left out or removed.

Have you not been properly fed?
Are you devoid or depleted of the fuel
necessary to function at your natural level?

You took for granted what you once had
and overlooked the opportunity
to identify and remember it;
now you are without
and there exists a void where
something tremendous
and integral to your own
structure, identity,
and ability to bond
has been lost.

I told my notebook once
that I wanted to hurt others
with my pen as a sword
because pain may be
the only way to explain.
