Five steps or five thousand
Her gait is just the same

Poets, painters
Can be tortured souls

But gardeners
Are at one with the world

No screens flash
No keyboard clicks

A woman she must prove her worth
Hood up, body bent
Her conversation polite

But minimal
Her gaze steadfast
Down to earth

Her gloved hands
Coaxing life from the bedraggled
Winter flower bed

echo
the flowers wilted when
you closed your eyes

the clouds they wept
when you confessed

your compromise

knowing you would not forget
knowing you would not regret

*the hurts you let inside

Atlas
In a crowded room
We escaped
Ran outside
And twirled
Spinning in circles
Glow sticks in hand
Just like the alcohol
I let the toxins drip
All over me

I have lost track
Of the smoke
And cold breath
A hand-rolled cigarette
Sits between my teeth
Along with many
Other things

The words
I am too afraid to speak
Slip underneath my tongue
And dissolve with another drink

My feet felt heavy
Two-thousand thirteen
Was quickly escaping
Last year was flushed away
By champagne and a fresh taste of human skin
At 12:01

Whenever I think of her
I remember the good times.
The laughs and love we used to share.
The passion in my rhymes.

Whenever I think of her
I remember how we talked.
The long hours on the telephone
would never seem enough.

Whenever I think of her
I think of her blue eyes.
The purity of her perfect smile.
Her lips would tell no lies.

Whenever I think of her
I remember all the pain.
The despicable actions that she made.
The hope she gave me in vain.

Whenever I think of her
I remember how I changed.
She made me be a better man
by breaking what she had made.
