A few words were behind a thought
somewhere at the back of my mind
I caught a little glimpse of them
not knowing why they're trying to hide

~~~
I encouraged them to show themselves
so I could place them on a page
yet I'm unable to entice them
their minds I've yet to change
~~~

I'll leave those words behind the thought
somewhere at the back of my mind
when they're ready to show themselves
they'll be displayed perfectly with their own kind

This poem's for me
But feel free to read
If you've taken a gander
Already peeked

The poems that I write
Are for everyone else
I felt that this time
I'd write one for myself

It's nothing too deep
Or one that boggles the mind
Just a simple rhyme
That passes the time

Took paper and pen
Flicked on the light
Wrote down this poem
That I was inclined

So this poem is for me
Not anyone else
Just thought I should write
This one for myself

Broken hearts in pieces on the floor
Then came the slamming of the door.
He didn't even say goodbye.
She felt the emptiness and started to cry.

It's a modern story often told.
Love's burning embers had grown cold.
The fruit of love withered and died.
He put his head in his hands and cried.

Once together they were now alone.
The once proud house was not a home.
The hearts once entwined grew apart.
Neither wanted to look for a brand new start.

He found new love - it wasn't easy.
Then she sent the Decree Nisi.
It was a matter of due course.
The happy marriage ended in divorce.

The world turned in its usual way.
The sun dawned on a brand new day.
the air smelled sweet with fresh clover.
But two lovers cried it's over, it's over.

You make an announcement
To your family and friends
Meetings with the preacher
Seem never-ending
No big deal or celebration
Just a trip to the courthouse
To sign the papers
Two rings, two hearts
A few words from the judge
And you’re done
Everyone shakes hands
You came as a couple
But leave alone
