The choice
Michael May 2021
A genie sprouted from my shoes.
He told me that I had to choose
Between these choices, choice one and choice two
To always win, or to always lose

I decided to lose, day after day.
The genie smiled, and I heard him say
“You’ve made the choice, few dare to make
And life will be hard, make no mistake

But the only way to grow is to lose
And you must take risks, in all that you do.
Though many challenges may come your way,
In all your tomorrows you will be stronger than today.”

Ocean
Michael Apr 2021
Deep inside the ocean
There’s beauty in the dark
There’s peace within the silence
Though beneath it lies the sharks

Deep inside the ocean
Your secrets will be safe
Hidden from the surface
Until your final days

Deep inside the ocean
The pressure is too much
Bring your hope down with you
It will be your only crutch

Deep inside the ocean
It’s littered full of mines

This ocean can be toxic
When the ocean is your mind
The ocean is also vast and unexplored, much like our own minds.

Never mine
Michael Apr 2021
They say I can be with another
But I want you

Think about you all day,
The thing I must is that which I can never do

To profess my feelings,
How my love is so true

So persistent it is,
I wear it like a shoe

Laced with your aura,
It reeks of you, too

But it seems to be
you were never meant for me.

Or, worse still, you feel the same way
Hoping and praying some day

I’d build up the courage to say

I love you, and want you to stay
Mine
How it feels having  persistent strong feelings for someone and knowing you can never tell them how you feel.

Dancing with Death
Michael Aug 2021
Time came while I was sleeping
And planted in my head
A vision of me dancing-
Passionately with Death

I woke up in a panic
and scrambled into town
But no one there, it seemed,
Could manage calming me down

I knew somehow that no one could
For no one truly understood
The dance I had with Death,
and how magnificent she looked.

Many years I spent in town, in search of better wear
Until one night, startled by sound,
I turned and found her there

Her beauty caught my gaze, her aura filled the midnight air
I strode to her and offered a dance- for what good is it to simply stare?

The gentle music surrounded us; absent of despair.
I danced passionately with Death that night-
And time wasn’t even there.
