Pinot this and pinot that
This young Grenache is a trifle flat
Better to try and get along
With a slightly older Sauvignon

I sometimes get a trifle low
When dabbling in a cheap Merlot
And so to scare the blues away
Will sip a spendy Chardonnay

But to avoid real ennui
Drink super Oregon Pinot Gris
And let’s be quite awfully frank
That’s much better than Chenin Blanc

But while you sort out your Pinot
Give a break to Grignolino
It’s good, but not the same as
A bold and cheeky Oz Shiraz

And if you want to go very far
Don’t ignore local Pinot Noir
It always sells well on the block
And I wonder who likes Marechal Foch

As I was supping a cute Barbera
At a certain State affaira
Things got quickly very highbrow
When someone mentioned Muller Thurgau

It is no lack of vinous respect
That makes us scorn the best Malbec
And can you find me a single fan
Of that very odd vine, Carignan?

If one must go to a grapey hell
There’s good company in Zinfandel
But if we really must go
Could we have some Nebbiolo?

In the end we all agree
Any wine is better free
But if not free we’ll surely call
Any wine beats none at all!
There are hundreds of grape varieties. Some make good wine, some do not. A poem including all of them would be too long. This one takes care of the obvious contenders.

I want to find a Boo-Boo
for my Smokey Bear
So now that you’re aware
of this just stop your
staring at me
Please hear my plea
Next time you
talk to Yogi
ask him ‘bout a
Boo-Boo Bear for
Smokey

The forest fires burn
burn, burn, burn, burn
Keep tryin’ to contain them
but those whack-a-moles
yearn to be free
Please listen to me
Next time you
talk to Yogi
ask him ‘bout a
Boo-Boo Bear for
Smokey

Smokey needs a
Boo-Boo Bear so
when he retires
he’ll take over his work
preventing forest fires
Can’t you see?
Please hear my plea
Next time you
talk to Yogi
ask him ‘bout a
Boo-Boo Bear for
Smokey

“Created in 1944, the Smokey Bear Wildfire Prevention campaign is the longest-running public service advertising campaign in U.S. history, educating generations of Americans about their role in preventing wildfires … Though he has already accomplished so much, Smokey’s work is far from over. Wildfire prevention remains crucial, and he still needs your help. His catchphrase reflects your responsibility: Only you can prevent wildfires. Remember that this phrase is so much more than just a slogan: it’s an important way to care for the world around you.”—smokeybear.com

“Boo-Boo Bear is a Hanna-Barbera cartoon character on The Yogi Bear Show. Boo-Boo is an anthropomorphic bear cub who wears a blue or purple bowtie. Boo-Boo is Yogi Bear's constant companion, and often acts as his conscience.”—Wikipedia | Boo-Boo Bear
11/20/2021 - Poetry form: Light verse - Mark Toney © 2021
Mateuš Conrad Apr 2016
poetry was hushed
or ushered out from being compared
with philosophy,
well... bye bye systematisation
leave you to it...
it's hardly an art, given it only uses
two extremes that can't be defined
as colour, but more or less x-ray vision...
i know... so much colour and so
much perfumery surrounding
me that i wish to not replicate...
hence the stance...
important dates like the battle of Hastings
(1066), or the great fire of London (1666) -
such importance goes hand in hand
with being up-to-date for a quiz show,
alt. to knowledge? quiz or trivia.
poetry is that: it's the sole mediator
of history and journalism,
entry of Darwin on a 10 quid banknote,
poetry has to marry someone else,
it can't be stuck in a rut with pompous philosophy,
and it's too crude to munch off a sharpened flint-stone
(Flintstones? Hanna-Barbera?! *******)
of Pythagoras' cubism - cubism, you sure?
only cubes herrscht? well hardly,
Marilyn Manson is still an introvert anomaly
in Essex amongst the zombies... as i heard in
a HMV, one of the last strongholds of the
mutilated high-street and the death of
the postman profession... they're going, those postmen,
you hear? among the carrier pigeons
shot down dead! unlike Sartre i'm making a claim:
evolution precedes adaptability... essence indeed first
and existence last...
and with regards to poetry, that great mediator
of journalism and history...
ten sixty six mattered as much as today's article
headlined: GAMBLING ADDICT 'DIED OF SHAME'...
hmm? it does... you can just immediately pick
out the correlation for a national egoism.
if it weren't for skin-heads the metal rock enthusiasts
would have been called meat-heads for head-banging
too much: smooch smooch (x x in slang).

i still think
                                           that literature's       "      "
is better assumed as
     mathematics'                             ~
or what's simply abbreviated
                                    ambiguity, sort of,
as apologetics for Heidegger is concerned -
that there is moral ambiguity in the interpretation
of Dasein as ecstasis about, e.g. the war in Syria:
but is that a self-serving ecstasis for the fact per se
or that other interpretation for concern, which
with the above mentioned notation is a lack of,
as in for peace to resume as common sense
and less of what's suitable away from the apathetic
route, and indeed the ecstasis to shout for forced peace
rather than see it all as without your moral
judgement with you being no moral agent in the matters
that themselves have to resolve, without your input.
- and it always comes like this, cute little things,
or how you can condense all the theories surrounding
the psychological trinity into superego,
or that verse by Philip Larkin
        that begins wonderfully:
they ******* up, your mum and dad
  (this be the verse) -
and the two other bits and bobs,
the Gemini scalpels -
       depending on how you wish
to make incisions into thought (or
any other moral quality, for that matter) -
do you wish to be a surgeon,
your own man as it were, and with the ego
cut your own story?
or perhaps you'd prefer a butcher
psychiatrist lob pork chops of you
    with his depersonalising id?
         after all, he will say:
the laws of the state demands you have
so sort of i.d. (identification credential);
only the rich, a Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany
could ever fit the programme of Herr Doktor,
         Ode Odi Oedipus            Olé!
Herr... auto-****** means i have enough
******* on my ******* that
a gentle rub of the ******* gets me all
hot & bothered and juiced up?
after all, the maidens of Egypt have
to have theirs cut and endure docile mantras
of why, why, why.
    and please, Herr Doktor, when
will Latin actually die? they keep saying
Latin is dead, familiarly like Nietzsche's god
is dead... but Latin isn't remotely dead,
the blimmin' alphabet is still here,
how do i know? well, d'uh, i'm using it...
you say id             i say es
you say ego               i say self
(then you make a Frasier joke about elves)
and we go on and on in
this cat               mouse              game,
it's all a matter of fashion,
they all said the above Mr. N was a
great stylist, after all an aesthetician is,
and now they blabber on as if talking
Gucci pooch'e - this is dead, that is dead,
it's a fashion industry: but less obvious,
more inclined in       what you talk about
than what        you wear.
             said,
   '            ', he said
"        ", he thought he said,
or the narrator said it for him,
or the narrator thought he said it
for him, when in fact he didn't say anything
nor the fact that there was anyone to actually
  say anything at all -
                 kinda a Beckett Watt moment.
the Watt waltz, and that truly is a mind
******; as i sometimes wish narration was
kept in the Irish / Polish standard of notation
- and off we went to the poll booths.
- aye, and we vetoed rather than voted.
who would have thought that two ****-heads would
make the unlikely politicised duo of escapees.
akin to Ulysses - but i get the
picture, the hyphenated compound words not
yet approved to be actual compounds,
cite the Oxford committee for doing
****** paperwork, or none at all to modernise
  the Anglo-Smackson.
****... in the real world this could be
called pimping - but here... mm hmm:
peacock exfoliation - and i know it, so it's less
smarty and cared about: just... done.
yes, it usually starts rigid, that bit about
Latin not being dead is extremely rigid
in composition - it's a sore the size of a ****-steak
   on my forehead -
as is my lack of desperate attempts
to applaud Delmore Schwartz attempt to bring
Finnegans Wake (the pearl in the crown
of all things difficult) to the people and the swine...
so he didn't think Ulysses was
difficult enough? jeeze! and this alone reads like
a modern aversion to how young people are
drawn into mutilating themselves -
                  rampant ids             less acknowledged
Larkin moments in discussion:
or perhaps the opera of suburban happy-go-happy-do?
kids without even the foggiest of
the lysergic acid of Hanna-Barbera
                        and the Loons -
                                the fun-go-to lunacies of
cartoon network 20th century 90s...
                                       and hell: when we actually
        lived in times of toy story toys;
these days i'm getting the impression
a girl is probably going to play with a ***** than
a barbie - must be the pink and the blonde
matched by the how many? jokes
    in mouth as in look doppio standards of not getting it;
but of course, the many other stereotypes.
            well, us kids, back then,
ah...         nothing like that coming again.
summary... in ref. to the title,
it's next days shrapnel from the debauchery of
the previous night, or why i write drunk and sometimes
get lucky sobering up and do not indulge in the bottle
and not write something, and end up not writing
something like William Styron's Darkness Visible,
who also drank, but didn't write and drink,
drank on the sobering up note, like
this poem.
well, i figured, if i don't exploit the drinking
as a sedative unwinding and be bashful
then, resolutely, the sobering up me is still making
  that blood wine:
                          and never did liquidating
two kilograms of caster sugar in half a litre of water
             feel like handling mercury.
Mateuš Conrad Feb 2016
i wasn't developed with my father since aged 4, till 8,
my mother from 6 to 8... i identified with Batman quickest...
he had no superpowers... nothing... he had lots of money...
and the only "superpower" was intelligence;
being reunited wasn't exactly a perfected omelette
of kept dozen... it wasn't so much me
but other people's involvement in
a family life that bothered me...
and i'm not talking about the mother
and the father being blamed...
i mean the kids... a better half of them
were never into family but into solipsism:
the time a son could have stepped in
and helped his mother from worrying
and not cooking soft pasta... that could have
happened, but it didn't... the
number of marriages i've seen fail
because of over-cooked pasta and over-salted potatoes:
you wouldn't believe me!
added to the fact that computer-generated-imaging
stole from children the greatest cartoon animators...
we don't have any great cartoon animators...
there will never be another ******-doo,
no next hanna-barbera... it will be only be about
invoking realism so real that the once deliberate fake
will be laughed at... i liked the deliberate fake in movies
and talent in cartoons... now with missing deliberate
fake there's no talent in cartoons.
"Just a minute there," Hanna Barbera said to her normal gynecologist, "you're not my normal gynecologist." The gynecologist smiled, his big yellow teeth reflecting natural sunshine like bikini models eating breakfast in France do. "I am your normal gynecologist. You just don't recognize me because I had my nose straightened. You see, it all happened 44 years ago when I was a wee lad in Canada. My father was a tall man, 7 feet high, and my mama was a ******, no bigger than a peanut butter and jellyfish sandwich. Well one day, while I was having my left thumb cut off by the Mafia, the Korean War started again. I rose to my feet and ran to the army department to become a gynecologist. Years passed and my thumb slowly grew back on and now I'm the greatest gynecologist in the world and women love me a lot."

Knowing when and how to walk away with grace and dignity
Returning if it is welcome and possible
Knowing how to calm the flames of your mind and cool down so your heart beats gently
Unlike characters on ****** Tunes and Hanna Barbera cartoons
Believing that there is hope and working with it
Holding on to what matters and making that work for you
Happiness is learning to cope well so you can enjoy your life and those around you
This heart is coping
Hope yours is too
