In the dark of the nighttime, papyrus well lit
these embers of imagination are bright where I sit
by spark of the dreamer whose words I read
dead for many ages yet renewed is the seed
planted in the fertile reaches of my mind
wisdom handed down for posterity to find
I hear plainly these voices, deep as they are sage
and thirst for the knowledge contained in the page

It was almost midnight  and we were all looking out the window wondering what trouble we could get into before we all went home for winter break. We realized that it is the night of a meteor shower, so we decided to go outside and have a look.

One shooting star.

So we waited a few more minutes until the next one came.

Then there were at least three more shooting across the sky.

It was magical to me considering I've lived in a city my whole life and there's no way to see the stars unless I drive out to the middle of the desert.

I started running in a different direction to get a better view and my friends yelled at me to come back, but I didn't listen. We walked all the way to the football field. Everything was locked, so we crawled under the gates and walked down to the middle of the field.

I could see the sky stretch in every direction for an eternity. There were so many stars that it looked as if someone spilled glitter and spread it across a black canvas.

A few minutes later...
We thought someone was coming, so we laid in the grass hoping to blend in with the darkness. There was no one. We left anyway, though and I had the bright idea of going to the top of the parking garage to get an even better view.

One shooting star

Two, three, four, five...

They just kept coming.

There was one star in particular that caught my attention, though. It seemed to have been dragging across the sky for at least 20 seconds. Okay, that's a slight exaggeration, but I've never seen that happen before.

I wonder if that meant something.

We laid there until our bodies started tingling and going numb and we couldn't stand the cold any longer. It was almost 2:30 a.m. and we finally decided to go back.

That night may not sound like much to you, but that's one of the best memories I have.

I finally felt free

When walking
home from school,
when she let you hold her hand,
that first moment
the sky exploded with the beauty of her,
so scared,
you purposely avoided looking in her eyes,
those first few steps,
until head tucked,
a glance,
and she was smiling
knowing you were looking,
and her hand felt wonderful
with each of your fingertips
touching her, this first time,
walking home.

To my own mind I will deceive
To the peace I should receive
I am just another thief
I wish I would not live.

Harsh life, large strife,
stirring the wrath within me.
Red flag, hold back!
I would pull back my fist by my own decree.

Wants to have love, falling to the lust.
Goals are above, moving is a must.
Lost to the chains that holds to my heart.
Wrenching me right back into the start.

"Repent" it says.
There is really nothing I could say.
"Restrain" it says.
I secretly want to make them pay.

Darkness lurking.
Power usurping.
Should I fall behind?
Should I get in line?

My own restrains become my worst enemy.
Only I myself pity.
The violence return to stir within me.
Only I can stop me.

To my own mind I will deceive
To the peace I should receive
The innocences that I should grief.
Hoping one day I will have a relief.
I'm floating high above the clouds
Looking down through the crowds
what do you think I see
A horror film, starring me
I look so sad, beat to a pulp
I can't see a shred of hope
I want to stay up here, in the sky
Am I alive or did I die?
Will I wake up from this bad dream
I desperately need to get clean
I've burned all my bridges
Dug my own hole
It's too late to set another broken goal
So I pick up the needle
Shoot the liquid into my vein
Soon I will be floating in the clouds again
last night i dreamed my cat rose from his bed and slid out the door

and leaped into the sky, gliding lazily through the air with a serene look

on his fuzzy face

batting at birds that passed him by

until he was just a speck on the horizon
