The serenity of the park
Stirs gently in my soul
I walk around and ponder
The wonders of God
The  birds flying softly
Over my head
Cicadas singing on morning duty
Ripples on the sparkling lake
Gentle breezes kiss my cheek
I can't thank God enough
Nor praise Him enough
From my heart
Or even a poem
For loving me and dying
For me
But I'll  try
Thoughts racing prayerfly in .
my mind on my morning  walk
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2022
No gold to give you
Frankincense I cannot smell
Myrrh afraid to find
I follow the star
Silently make a you turn
Give homage to God
Bearing not a gift
Wrapped in paper and a bow
Only me to give
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2022
We all have an
Artistic flare
Some with words
While others paint
With colors
Songs written
Voices heard
Others make
You laugh
Or even cry
Some can touch
You
With words
Or a sympathetic
Hand
Everyone is an
Artist
With a different canvas
To paint on
Everyone has their
Own Style

My bank filled
With.words
From yesterday
Today a bitter
Song
Where tears were
Shed
And laughter heard
With no one
Else around
Pain cut deep
Inside my
Heart
It broke in
More then
Two
I guess the
Only good
Thing
How I can
Sing the
Blues
Mary Anne Norton Nov 2020
If I were at the
Wedding Feast
Would I have
Brought enough
Oil
For my lamp
Or have to go
To the market place
To get more oil
And miss the
Wedding Banquet
Would I have
Shared my oil
Will I be locked
Out
Come Judgement Day
I need to be ready
All the time
The real question
Am I ready
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
Gold drops out of
Pen and onto paper
Words of humanity
Love fear beauty
Stench and laughter
One may need a kleenex
Or a trash can
Nearby
Whatever it is
Don't stop writing
You have the
Midas touch
Mary Anne Norton Nov 2020
There you were
Thousands of
Teardrops later
Drenched with
Heartache from
My soul
Sopping with.bitterness
Shaking from pain
And distance from
Long
    Long
    .............Ago
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
I am there for you
Like you've always been for me
Now we are just one
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
Oh the road ahead
Can be so lonely
If we let it
To overcome
Carry a knapsack
Full of memories
Family together sharing
Special events
Letters held near
And dear
Photos of days
Gone by and
Still to come
It's  not so
Lonely
When you are
Surrounded by
Love
And covered with
Hope
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
In wheel chair
You sit as
Others go by
I'll walk for you
Eyes can't see
Birds flying high
I'll see for you
Ears can't hear
The barking
Of dogs
I'll hear for you
Withered hands
So bent in pain
Can't feel the
Soft fur of
A cat
I'll touch
For you
In your own words
From your chair
You'll sit for me
Birds through your
Imagination
You' ll see for me
The dog barking
You can touch
His vocal chords
And hear for me
The Cat's fur
Put by your cheek
You'll feel for me
Come let's share
Our differences
Yet are we
That different
When all we
Really want
Is for one
Another
To experience
What we can see
And feel
And touch
Thoughts came after walking yesterday.
Some from observation some from my
Class some from life
Mary Anne Norton Nov 2020
In baby blue morning sky
Ready for a showdown
Were sun and moon
Both at opposite ends
Of the spectrum
Waiting.to begin
The sun heated up
Sent warm rays to
The stirring and sleeping
While a glorious white
Circular shadow. Held her
Distance
To the unsuspecting world
As the sun grew brighter
The moon disappeared
Into the sky
See you tonight sun
As I brighten your way
See.you tomorrow moon
As I brighten your way
When I took my morning walk the sun was behind me with her warmth  in front of me
The moon full and shadowy white
Such a beautiful sight that does not happen often .Amazing
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
The thought of you
Slowly ever so slowly
Drifted away
Now a bit of fresh air
Can just linger
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
The tree has undressed
For winter
Leaving scattered colors
Of.reds.and gold and
Yellows
Scattered on the
Ground
She is exposing
Herself to.
Winter's  chill
Perhaps like us
When we expose
Our nakedness
In words
We too feel chill
Or.even warmth
Do we take cover
Or spread
The words around
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
I'll take this moment
Full of peace
Thinking of Why
And YOU
And How
And Where someday
Hopefully I'll  be
With YOU
For all Eternity
Mary Anne Norton Nov 2020
Wind whipping through my
Water bottle
Not whistling Dixie
But a pleasant sound
It was
Making me think
How wonderful Life
Really is
Even the simplest of
Things
Make sense in the
Whole scheme of
Things
To recognize and
Give thanks
Even better
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2021
Alone in the dark
Gathering up thoughts before
Alone in the light
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
This feeling of
Angst is upon me
Like the chill
Of Autumn morn
Tickling down
My spine
A feeling
I'd rather not
Possess
Generally the feeling
Turns to reality
And I am doomed
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
nineteen years ago
As the twin towers
Burnt to the ground
Lives lost all around
But the Spirit of man
Prevailed
Those who risked
Their own lives
So others may live
Gasping for breath
In heated flame
Others helping each other
To hold on and escape
Prayers food shelter
Lined  the street
And now Ground Zero
Sacred Ground HolyGround
Let's take a moment today
Giving thanks to those
Who died
Let's resolve in our
Own place in Life
To be a hero in
Our everyday walk
Mary Anne Norton Jul 2020
Sunny rays awaken me
Cat's a purrin
Teas a whistilin
Time to start the day
Birds are flyin
Squirrels tagging
Nature's sweet display
People lovin people sharin
Set the world ablaze
Mary Anne Norton Jul 2020
My thoughts keep racing
Faster and faster they go
No finish line near
Mary Anne Norton Nov 2021
Silence is around
Lives once lived are underground
Feelings are alive
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2021
What gift will I bring
To a king lying in hay
The gift of myself
The  wise men brought gifts to Jesus. Got me thinking what would I bring to our King
Lying in a bed of hay
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
Made it through
Another day
Of heartache
And mistakes
Look forward to
Another day
Where i might
Get a break
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
The cold is here
To stay
At least for
A little while
Time to grab out
My unfinished books
Books I treasure
Those begun stopped
Midway
Literary books to
Read over
Some not even
Begun
Big books
Small books
Healthy books
Religious books
Which book will
I choose
Sometimes i read
Two at a time
Just have to
Remember
Who is who
This reminds me
Time to pick
Up a book
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
It's  that time again
The darkness outside
Awakens the mornin
Within
Thoughts piece together
To weave a quilt of magic
But nothing can surface
So the ink disappears
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
Time is not to waste
We will never get it back
Every second counts
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2022
I wait for your call
Every evening that goes by
To create a poem
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
Time to work
Earn my keep
Time to play
Find my inner self
Time to eat
Savor the goodness
Of Nature's bounty
Time to pray
For stillness within
Time to sing
Feel good songs
Make you cry songs
Don't know the
Words songs
Time to read
To laugh and startle
And cry
Time to take trash out
Count the stars
Time to relax
Time to be
Time to go
To bed
And give thanks
Time to
Shhhh
Good night
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
Oh to be a goose
Honking in the air
Making lots of noise
Flying in the air
Spreading my wings
Waiting for a
Perfect place to land
Finding food to eat
And a place to chase
My friends
Swimming in  a pond
A lake crystal clear
Or murky water
No matter
In the business of
Just being
I don't have to be
A goose
Honking in the
Air
Making lots of noise
Spreading my wings
Looking for a perfect
Place to land
Hunting for food
Chasing my friends
I can do this.
By myself
To be grounded
And then take
Flight
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
It's  dark
Time to go
To sleep
Let the demons
Vanish
And Angels appear
Don't cover up
Your sorrow or regrets
Your sadness and fears
Let the Angels cover you
In warmth
Sent from above
Close your eyes
Get some sleep
And know that
Some how
You are loved
Mary Anne Norton Nov 2020
Gracefully the cat
Circled around its'
Owners' legs
Purring louder
To be held
And stroked
Gently down her spine
Having been satisfied
A sip of milk
Upon sandpaper lips
Would do
A spot in the
Warm sun
Would do nicely
And a dream
Of catching a mouse
Even better
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
Yesterday.i went into
The darkened room
To write with words
Today I come out
Into a lighted room
With a poem
you don't realize how much time goes by
When you are writing.it was tuesday evening when thoughts surfaced
And Wednesday when I finished.
Elevenish to twelvish
It must have struck me because
I noticed it.
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
My mind goes too fast
Putting words down on paper
So there's no title
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
Today is the anniversary
Of my Mothers death
We were blest to
Have a woman
Strong and gentle
A woman with
My father who
Raised six children
One with diabetes
And all the complications
That go with it
You never knew
Her life was one of
Love and song
This is a day of cherished
Memories
And Prayers she taught us
I've been blest
With my Mothers love
And that's Prayer enough
For me
Thank you Mom.
I love you
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
So like a child
Waiting for a fresh new day
To live once again
Mary Anne Norton Nov 2020
Today you killed
My spirit
You aimed at.me
With chosen
Heartless words
Firing with all
Of your might
Hoping not to miss
Your target
Tears of sadness
Begged for mercy
But a glare and
A crooked smile
Only surfaced
You got your way
And now
.........I'm
   ...............
    ........
   ......
Melting

Never to return
To the fragile piece
I once

   ........was
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2021
I look out the
Window of my soul
There i see you
Freezing in the.cold
Tattered blankets nearby
While others join
The.neverending
Line for food
Some women grabbing
Another ice pack
For the bruises to
Go Away
For some the food
From.yesterday's trash
Seems.like a good dinner
Empty pockets
Another day without
A dollar
A baby lying
By the trash
And a bony dog
Sniffing their remains
Sniffing their remains
Perhaps I should
Open the door
Of my heart
And go outside
And do something
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
Today achild wakes up
Without a parent
Who sacrificed their Life
A spouse looks at
an empty side of bed
Where once they lay
Who sacrificed their Life
A child does not awaken
No longer here
Who sacrificed their Life
As we sadly remember today
Let us sacrifice our Life
To the cry of others
Mary Anne Norton Nov 2020
The moon in the sky
Looked grey
Yet bright enough
To shine
Through the peaks
In my blinds
And bold enough
To wink
Goodnight
To me
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
Coming from all
Walks of life
Sandy toes leaving
Footprints behind
Muďdy toes from
Leftover rain
Wet toes leftover
From morning dew
On the sidewalk toes
Keeping a straight path
Tender loving baby toes
Kiss them one two three
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
Tonight I miss you
And each and every day
Everything around
Is so a part of you
Christmas lights you
So enjoyed
The Charlie brown tree
You had in your room.
With dangling gifts
Of pencils and.small
Trinkets for
The nieces and nephews
To choose from
Yes even one for me
The Christmas gifts
Wrapped in newspaper
And you never knew
What you would find
Oh but for your
Laughter and stories
And love to
Last the whole
Year round
You are no
Longer with us
But your love
So deeply given
Will forever be
In our.hearts
To stay
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
Just put the pen down
The pad of paper will stay
Now just go to sleep
Rest your weary eyes
Put your racing thoughts to sleep
And wake up refreshed
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
It's a tough world
Out there
The turtle surmised
Crawling back into
His shell
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2020
How peaceful outside
Gentle breezes whispering
Silently past me
There's a calm outside
As the chimes soothingly
Sing a lullabye to me
I'm attuned to their rhythmic
Repetition
As i slowly inhale  exhale
Two harks joyfully encircle
The blue cotton candied
Clouds sugar coated
In God's  grace
What a symphony
Of love I just
Engaged in
Now for the encore
A Great Amen
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2021
My inner feelings
As grey as the foggy sky
Slowly dissipate
Mary Anne Norton Dec 2020
Puppy out for
Morning walk
With owner
Sees a stick
Of course bigger
Then he is
Puts it in his mouth
And carries to
Next crack in
Sidewalk
So proud of his
Treasure
As he struts along
As the stick
Gets heavier
He drops it
How often have
We found a
Treasure right
In front of us
Gave it a few
Minutes' time
Then dropped it
Because it was
Too heavy to
Carry
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2022
My treasures are few
Books to read stories to share
And also there's you
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
Trembling hands can
No longer hold
The pen
Once used
For writing poems
Let me dictate them
To you
From my very heart
To keep in your
Waiting soul
Thinking of times sitting with the
Elderly who had so much to share
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2022
Tried calling  but
No answer
Tried visiting but
No show
Tried crying but
No tears
Tried loving but
No response
Tried living but
No Life
Tried sharing but
No hands
Tried and tried
Until all gone
Mary Anne Norton Oct 2020
You were suppose to
Shine in the dark
So I hurried to
The door to turn
Off the light
And in the darkness
I fell
Reminds me that
I was suppose to
Trust you with
Open arms
I came and
I fell
Sometimes you put too much
Trust in objects or people
