My coworker left
An extra napkin
On the table
For me
Perhaps that is
The best thing
She could have
Done
As I picked
Up my pen
And began
Writing

Perhaps we start
Poetry at an
Early age
With the rhythmic
Sound of
Ma ma
Da da
And continue
Throughout our
Childhood
Use your words
Perhaps that was
One of the
Best Things
Said to us
Mary Anne Norton Nov 2020
So many words
Just floating through
My head
Can't make any
Sense of them
Not now
Any way
Perhaps i should
Let them be
Until they are
Ready to share
A dozen roses in a vase
A kaleidoscope of color
To pick just one to press and keep
Seems insulting to the others.
In the end I had to choose
The one that first, caught my eye
Its vibrant blossom standing out
Causing a sentimental cry.

Its petals felt like velvet
With a scent of pure delight
It seemed to glow endlessly
Even in the dead of night
This rose is one I'll treasure
For we will never be apart
It will always be there with me
As it blossoms in my heart.

Spying on nature
Peeking through the
Now wrinkled curtains
Smiling while watching
The geese
So many landed
Now dancing on
The dewy ground
Flapping their
Sturdy wings
Some hunting for
The days'food
Others swimming
In unison
While the energetic
Ones
The bold
Ones
Play tag
Your it
Suddenly a cue
Seen only through
Nature's call
Summons the geese
As they form a
VEEEE
And noisily
Take off
Mary Anne Norton Nov 2020
Sitting i wait
For an answer
The time is
Drawing nigh
Thoughts dizzying
My already
Overworked mind
Tossing over and over
Like my clothes
In the dryer
Do I have
An answer
Maybe I never should
Have anxiously
Awaited
When the answer
Was here
All along

Honking in the sky
Geese are flying overhead
Time for morning tea
