I just want to blow my brains-out...
from my cat's acting awkwardly.
His yelp offended my ears
and I've heard some ****.
The soothing tides that became my mentality
only after writing this 'piece'
allows me to declare sanctimony
in a scrawl as wretched as this.
Love to all that need it, because
I sure as hell did.

We remember what it sounds like --
euphoria hot off the wire,
a whisper down a twisted spine,
a barrage of internal cannon fire.
An epidermal power surge,
a taste of commotion worth living for.
We remember what it sounds like --
we just don't hear it anymore.
Ever wish you could erase a song from your brain so you could hear it again for the first time?

Thunder falls silent, and none too soon,
before an empty throne --
a once-great beast
ere final feast
now sovereign of vapor and bone.
For the conquerors. Chin up -- this too shall pass.

Reaching out to catch you and save you from the fall
so many times I caught you and warned you of that wall.
I’m holding onto you in every possible way
Overpowered by your strength I’m begging you to stay
My eyes are pouring tears as I watch you try to cross a weak and broken bridge
Where I’ve seen too many fall from the never returning edge
As the waters run rapid like a raging beast below your feet
Waters so powerful even you cannot defeat
This is the place I’ve warned you of so many times before
The place where I can’t save you anymore
Your ears have grown deaf to me as your eyes have turned from blue to black
The devil of addiction has taken you as I fight to get you back
Addiction is real but it affects more than just the addict.

Rain on a flower
Rain on me
The sky has a plan
Tomorrow you will see
The sun shine again
In light of today's dream

It's my go to place,
has been for years,
The Wildwood Café,
serving only breakfast
and lunch closes at 2:00,
an eclectic tiny place
with a mix of old dinette
tables and mismatched chairs,
the cutlery also unmatched
and well used, some even a
little bent but no one cares
it's part of the unassuming
charm of the place. Old photos
and signs adorn the walls
and there is usually a line
of people waiting patiently
on benches outside.

Best of all there is this pleasant
girl, always wearing a welcoming
smile, who seems to know us all.
She knows my order by heart,
Ham and eggs over medium,
a half ration of potatoes, home baked
slice of bread, well toasted, well buttered,
home made salsa on the side, a cup of
"hot" Black English Tea. Tall water no ice.

If I arrive between the busy times, she may
sit for a spell at my table, we talk a while,
not a big thing, just chitchat, I'm old enough
to be her grandfather, it's the dessert before
my meal served with genuine friendliness
and unforced civility, not often encountered
in these strange days and times, a slice of
small town Americana at it's best,
she and folks like her help sustain my belief
that basic human decency is far from dead.

The food always good, but it's the
comforting embrace of familiarity and
simple kindness that assures my
frequent return.
It's the little things in life that make living
wonderful, small moments in time felt and
recorded, this is but one of those.
Added March 8, guess I will not be going
there for a while. Hope it's still open
when I do.
