School is a building, not the only place for learning
Trips happened every month when I taught
Museums, Outdoor events, anything to capture an imagination
Many parents did not take their children anywhere
According to the kids
As much as I could, we did something about it
The library was not visited by many
With permission, they visited once a week
They got library cards
Parents complained, not returning books, not paying fees
Never anytime
So when we visited weekly
Books were returned
A young librarian asked if she could work with my students
Not only was this weekly, but some students were her interns after school
Some went home to a lonely home, or hung out wherever that was
The Key was to meet a member of the community; they never would have
Hopefully, I opened more than a door

The chorus means what it used to but somehow you forgot the words that you sang at the top of your lungs

Tired of hearing the word special applied to me
Maybe because accepting that is still further away then one might expect
Learned the hard way to accept and not expect
Being grateful is something else
Always have and always will be
The need is very simple but one must stay true and activate it
Be the do good type
Do the very best you can and strive for more
Help and and listen
Know when to hold back and when to be there
The need is greater than one would think

Too many have been pained and jolted into something beyond inconceivable
You matter and what matters has forever changed for some
Some won't change and that unfortunately is the way that it is
If writing and poetry gives people something to hold on to
Hopefully striving forward than it is a wonderful gift
We can't throw in the towel and give up
Naysayers need not read further
This is not Pollyanna in any means
There is a two year old and four month old that deserve a better world to live in
No hate, injustice, and a cleaner environment
My nephews and nieces deserve the best
My wish is that those people in your family are loved and treasured enough that the need for Poetry never goes away

Remnants of a dream and glistening water on the sea
That yesterday and tomorrow were carefree
He ran like a bull set free from a china closet looking for a reason
He wanted a chance to change for now and every season

Today was a nightmare and tomorrow he might never see
They stayed together forever and an explanation didn't matter
They never married because a soul or two could shatter

My phone told me our dear friend was dying
As the tears fell and details are forthcoming, I was grateful for Mother Nature's children entertaining me

Somebody makes you a victim
Your sense of worth and well being vanishes
No matter your age
You are harmed and scared for life even though some think you get over it
You don't but with help you move on and forward
When your dignity is taken and you are never the same
People who haven't a clue want to deny your rights to terminate something that should have never been there in the first place
It is your body and nobody should tell you what to do with it
That is not the way it is now but the way it needs to be again
Children should be wanted and planned for
Believe what you want and think what you want
That is fine
When one is violated sometimes what is taken can't be corrected medically
Some women can never conceive and when it is medically assisted if it is possible when will Government try to stop that blessing
The way it is is not as it should be
Will you pay to raise the children that were not wanted until they are no longer minors
Will Orphanages be filled to the max
That is the way it will be

Some people should look in their own backyards and hearts before they judge
There is one member of the Supreme Court that would have his marriage disavowed if we go back to yesterday

They list the names and how they perished
