The Deep Breath
Probir Gupta Apr 2018
The beautiful page
The image
Of the bunch of the books
Under the warm armpit
The molecules
Coming out through the nostrils
Into the air
What a charming delight
In the pores of the body
Where did the parks fly off
I look for the wind
That have blown them away
Beyond redemption

And those black board and chalks
The windows red and pink
The turquoise ink
The blinking blue hazes of time
A blurred paradigm

We build to break
No deep breath
Whispers the breeze through the chime

A handful of hyacinth
Probir Gupta Oct 2017
A handful of hyacinth from an ocean
Which just you know from where you collected
When you put it into the pockets of my trouser
Blue sky chose to blossom into white flowers

Look at the pink bottle in the red shelf
I have preserved them for my poetry
The key to the bottle is inaccessible to others
As it is protected in my scarlet box of waves
Those pleasure and pains in a tiny bouquet
This morning only I opened the bottle
And to my blue shiver found this line
Poetry is two handfuls of grapevine

Me
Probir Gupta Oct 2017
Me
Two handfuls of sky
Seeking frantically
Near the hills and sea
This is me

When the sun is off
Harsh sounds reign in cough
Sick horses at the trough
I sit with keyboard and a cup of tea

Look out of my window
Looking for a radiant yellow
In sweet air they grow
I am on my toes
Of them I choose two or three
From darkness some others join merrily
Stanzas emerge awesomely

I get them on the tablet screen
Scarlet indigo and green
Sentences in sheen

The judge coming out
When says, fine, now let it sprout
They are good no doubt

I set them free
Wait for the touch of a sea
Two handfuls of sky seeking in glee

This is me

The Gift
Probir Gupta Sep 2017
Time is adrift
One waits for one’s gift

Crystals of amber and gray shadow
Say to the the pomegranate like girl, hello
Looks restless your sparrow
Clouds float in your blue thought

The turquoise water of the lake
Looks at her thoughts opaque
From deep cave a green snake
Slithering towards her white teapot

Slender branches arch over the water
Looking for the focused archer
And the consequent breakers
To cool her mind distraught

In light and shade the path is waiting too
For the rainbow the horses will come through
Moments say, let's wait for the coup
Making the girl a cosmonaut

A brook besought
So well hardbought

Sorry, I no more seek your suns
Nor moons
Yes, your suns I loved very much

Your passionate sun
Around which my planets would run
Your cool moons
Shedding long leaves
On my glistening lagoon
I remember
All my swoons
From wine in your spoon

But your nerves
Went for new curves
It happens
Very often
Our rivers do not like the same course
Especially when you endorse
Flames of passion
And we are rivers

You developed a new craze
In a psychedelic haze
In that crazy spree
You started neglecting me
Initially I got lonely
Missed you terribly
My ocean frozen I was in a depression
Of the morbid flower
In pale blue showers
From the two windows
Morose under compulsion
For many a day, month and year
Irritation in the mug of bear
Tearing my spirit
Pulverizing all my lyrics
Landslide in Mirik

But again all rivers are resilient
If you stop its normal course
It gathers unexpected force
The remorse underlie

I grew seasoned without you
I was out of the bottomless blues
Though could not but reflect on the cues
In the morning dew
And sighed too
But I learned to live agile and alert
Brushing aside the frozen heart
Gave up on hashish
Cleaned the debris
Started looking smart

Now I have travelled a long path
No more remorse no wrath
No smokes of the aftermath
Now I understand
The diamonds of life
Love matters much
Especially in the flowers of touch
But when you ignore
It does not matter
I have got my poems of freedom
Your walls can never ruffle them

She falls in love
Probir Gupta Sep 2017
I am proud
And feel I am upon a cloud
Because of my womanhood
As I have found you
Who almost always
Makes me feel so good

From your turquoise ocean
I gather my scented conversation
From your blue sea
All my sincerity
From your little handsome suns
Of brilliance
Are inspired my hair buns
From the sharpness of your quest
Are born and spread
The tiny mutinies
In my *******

My all happiness
Find their crystals
Their waterfalls
From the sweetness
Your smile exudes
Embracing the light and darkness in me
Both sadness and glee
My gestures lovely
My habits ugly
Unconditionally

Now that you reappear
On my orange spheres
Please come back dear
Let me fall in love
From below and above
From right and left
From clouds in cleft
Let's be together
Into the tendrils we share
The filigree of love
In crimson curves
Let's stuff our love

In this fall
Shadows grow tall
And deeper too
On my ridges
On our bridges
In my sleep your tulip-dream
In my impatient stream
Your swimming fingers
In a  deep pink thrill
I have to take off
All my grills

My roses are for your eyes
My purple finches your intense stimuli
My ships for your lips
My nest for your sparrows
Your fireflies around my nest
Your soft words from your taste
Setting free
Sounds of sea
From my mouth
Spoonbills soar
North and south

Let's make the rhymings
Come along
You do it
Whatever you like
Strike in delight
Whether right or wrong
Let spring songs come out
Sprouts too I do seek
In the lip and cheek

Now
In the moonlight
In the Minoan moonlight
Stand the horses
One of them
Sleek and dark brown
Raise its hoof in air
Inquiringly I look for you
The moon grows dim
A raw smell of fresh hay
And the slush
In moss and marsh
And the smell of horses
Earthy and harsh

Come
Be in love we must

Hurricanes
Probir Gupta Sep 2017
All you do
All you say
All you write
In the jasmine garden
Is a frenzied drum
Bludgeoning me to dumb

Intensely numb
I feel
As I reel

Yes
As you come
Rising on tides
Passion overflowing
Deluge in the veins
In a hurricane
You dominate
You violate
You annihilate
My stability
My balance
My tranquility
My nonchalance

You seek to
Sweep me off my feet
I resist
To be devastatingly kissed

Who does want
A plundered restaurant
I hold breath
But you hit underneath
With your tremendous vigour
A wild rigour

Breaking all norm
Of rhythm and form
You become
The fierce Atlantic storm

From head to toe
Fast or slow
Everything you claim
You monster hurricane

In a primitive joy
You destroy
Spears and arrows you employ
Pull down and enjoy

In a poor coordination
I reach my limitation
And surrender
Before your violence
And horror

Frantically you tear
All the roses there
The tendrils of hair
The hymns of prayer
Whether in Florida
Or in Miami
Riding on reckless liberty
Everywhere the same misery

Either Katrina or Irene
Harvey or Irma
The same surging ocean
The same commotion
You flood me with
I groan beneath
I have to writhe
And wriggle as fiercely you breathe

Well now as you are quieted
Having deconstructed
All my emotions
Are now back to the ocean

Give me your resilience
The ocean’s brilliance
Let me reconstruct and create
My new cup and chocolate
My balance
In the new circumstance

In future if you need to come
Come with tribal drum
Played by striking with sticks
In the nerves crimson kicks
Come in drizzling ice and gentle rains
Not in tornadoes and hurricanes
Please …

Angels
Probir Gupta Sep 2017
The rain came down
It continued the whole day
Wind blew strong too
Beat against the house

More than hundred years old
The roof couldn't bear
It came down in slabs
On the second floor

It was in the middle of night
A family of four was  asleep
In the very second floor
All awoke and was stunned

The whole floor they found
Covered by massive debris
Only their room was unaffected
The rest was under the *******

As they were nervously coming down
A flash of light caught their eyes
Contour of a lovely face
With a raised palm of pink hope

It must be the Angel
Said the twelve year old girl
We love our neighbours
So she came to save us

The whole family agreed
As they looked on
The beauty travelling to the stars
By then the rain had stopped

The father told confidently
It was the Mother -- Mother Teresa
I too think so, said the mother
Their eyes on the residual light

Angel saves the family
Was the news in next day's daily
Most people said: Amen
A few laughed away too

Catharsis
Probir Gupta Aug 2017
Why don’t you come now
To the plot of blue river shore
Where we would
In an intense chocolate mood
Sit in a sun rise satisfaction
On the grainy sand
And create pearl drops of time
From the rhymes of waves
With the vibrancy we behaved
Exchanging those fine chimes
From our moonbeam dialectics
And converging synthesis
Of our hilltop thoughts and marine activities
After a diamond quest
Like the river
Or inside the river too?
How wonderfully we regressed and progressed
Making those radiant rings of time
Sometime winged
Sometime pink tinged

Time is bland and monochrome
Unless from your chromosome
You paint it like Van Gogh
Arresting the wayward clock
During which
Regardless of Greenwich
Taking colours from our river-wave flowers
Taking flavours from our cellular tremors
Taking sounds from our nascent heart pounds
Yours and mine
In our proximity alkaline
Would paint the wavelets
In the cups and plates
Opening the normally closed gates
Of sweet sweats
From each pore
And millions of such pores
From smiling to laughing in a petrichor
Unlocking the thousand doors
Of a colour continuum
From San Francisco to Baltimore
As we exchange our breath
From our deepening cores
Raising a rivulet
In the blue pigeon’s breast
And the bulbul’s beautiful crest
A supreme rest
In a purple tumult

Shadows lengthen in ecstasy
As sessions come to a termination
(No termination is possible though
What happens is a slow transformation
Of one melody to another music
Speeches flowing into lyrics
The sounds into stillness mystic)
So therefore
Bringing to the fore
From the amalgamated core
A flower of fusion
Pure and fresh
Out of the flood
No mire or mud
Looking at us conveying greetings
We look too
And from the meeting
A poem is born

Why don’t you come any more
Very often I look through the eye hole
Of my expectant door
The wishes naturally soar
In case I may see you coming
Dulcet sounds your feet strumming
But it’s all mist
I almost don’t exist
I miss the oasis
Of the cleansing catharsis

Probir Gupta Aug 2017
Ecstasy in commingling
Neurones writing poetry
Sunshine in the evening
In cerebral you and me

Muscles enjoy the steam
Under the red microwave
Nano curves in scheme
Cheetahs from the cave

The spines make an ocean
Of the entangled nerves
A dance of intoxication
Orange flames in verve

The cheetah licks and bites
The sea lifts toward moon
A Hurricane Harvey arrives
Time in a  fleeting swoon

Cherries come together
In the veins blooms rose
Burning sparks in weather
In a tremor they enclose

Two stanzas become one
Two times get conjoined
Ending in a peace of Psalm
In ice the cheetah disjoined

In Golden Dissolution
Probir Gupta Aug 2017
Cloud cloud and only cloud
No smile let alone cool touch
Top to toe in tight control
Tight lid on all bowls

No rain drops
For the keen crops
Close to the hilltops
Just cloud like rocks

Almost a dam
A rock of refusal
To release even some grass for a lamb
Gives a **** to who I am

But then it is impossible
No **** is absolute
They are usually vulnerable
To the calls of a dark flute

Last night took place
An earthquake
Along with a depression
In the Atlantic ocean

The grip loosened
A few cool drops on the thirsty floor
Plip plop sound
In the lungs petrichor

Then followed torrential rain
Devastating passion
Rare opportunity to drown your pain
In golden dissolution

Summer will come
Summer will go
The dissolution handsome
Will ever glow

The Windows
Probir Gupta Aug 2017
Who knows  tomorrow
The window will be there
To see such expanse of sky
In your greyish eyes
Blue shadows of invitation
For a nest of peace
In the window blinds
And behind
A crimson indulgence
In raising ripples
People are born
To live for
And adore
Such windows
Of beauty and joy
The only support
Amidst the convoy
Of blood  and sweat
Of terror and threat
On green grass
In Las Ramblas

Who knows
Another yellow rose grows
Tomorrow too
Let's celebrate therefore
At the window door
Some life in exuberance
Some moments of fragrance
And then silently lie
Under the now violet expanse
Of the abundant sky
The wind blows cool and slow
Oranges in the window

Silence wanders here
Sobbing eyes in Las Ramblas
Flowers on blood drops
Probir Gupta Aug 2017
So many days you and I did sit here
Under this canopy of mango trees
In the fresh flowers two humming bees
Our unspoken words in the cool air

Through ages we have been sitting
In Barcelona as well as Kolkata
In the snowy slopes of Simla
Lost in the warmth of knitting

Further away in Athens and Sicily
In the darkness of cave and ancient skies
Staring silently into each other's eyes
And playing with the waters of blue history

Your larks would show their stories
Concealed inside their wings
Through ages have hunted the kings
Still how charming their glories

Deaths there have been many
Drought and flood galore
We shared our dimples much more
Time cannot harm our cherry

Can time **** a Juliet
With its chains of life and death
Can the inexorable blow
Eradicate a Romeo

It is better so get close
Fill our lungs in the fragrance
Of each other's impatience
What's in store who knows

Look there the sky mingles into more sky
While making love with the seagulls
Smilingly glancing at you and I
Let us get lost like Beatles

Probir Gupta Aug 2017
A row of ten pigeons on the edge of
A roof while balancing their perspective
They bob their heads to be more objective
A few of course are at their beaks for love
Two among them resemble a white dove
As they fly my poetry finds motif
On my flower a few are destructive
For few minutes I look and dwell above
Suddenly a crow joins them in the row
I too am taken a little aback
Activities of the pigeons get slow
In the focus of pleasure a slight crack

Both the pigeons and crow in our thoughts grow
It’s good that now the white pigeons are back

Mysterious Night
Probir Gupta Aug 2017
Flames of lust
Silence to inhale
The primitive beast
The precious angels
Stay concealed
In mysterious nights
Of dark and lights

Whether you will grow tall
To be with the Orion
Or will fall
Among the tiger and lion
That dictates the mysterious night
With its fair and foul
That hover over and prowl
In your milieu
Deep inside you

Well, you mysterious night
No need of your dark lantern
Inside the dark cavern
I need to read the letters
As they get unfettered
Under your charming starlight
For the sake of my poems
Whatever that be
Ultimately
Down to a Haiku
To say to your white smile
In the face of the dark night
I love you

The moon sinks
In water of the Ganges river
It is future like black dark
Savage and stark
With two burning bright
Searchlights
The owl
Scans under the solo starlight
For a white cat

I look inside
At the old owl
Can black night
Bring out a white cat

Who knows
The night is always mysterious
And I am always curious
In gentle love
Sometimes delirious in delight
In the mysterious night

Through the red and blue glass
The sun sets like you are splashing ocean
In a maroon dream
Leaving me waiting

Beyond that fading light in the dark in east
May be someday
I will have my much expected feast
In the moonlit night
A thirsty beast
At least

Humans are too much leashed
By the solemn priests
Always roaming under a huge umbrella of words
Of scruples
With dilated pupil
And swords at the look for sublime lemon
As you splash ocean
On the red and green commotion
Of your orange heartbeat

In the blue heat
One day
The intrinsic picnic
We'll delight in

You have left me waiting
For the golden wasp

The Two Friends
Probir Gupta Jul 2017
The chlorophylls have turned up for the date today
But deep blues of gloom in the green *** of clay
Pink sunshine lips have not kissed them of late
Incessant rain has left the plant saddening

Its friend a little boy works in the roadside tea stall
For want of money he chose to be a school dropout
He is anxious that the growing plant might  wither out
Unrelenting monsoon has stopped it from growing

He shifts the green *** under a brightly burning electric lamp
Puts the *** on a bowl of water while softly caressing
The leaves with love opening the door of his lips
With smiling eyes the customers looking

Meanwhile clouds too have made way for the sun
But the boy has taken ill and the doctors say it's dengue
No money for treatment his parents can procure
They keep praying and the poor boy sinking

In spite of sunshine the plant withers again
Flickering flames at the  bed cast long shadows

It would be around eight in the morning
Endless rain perhaps taking a brief rest
In her eyes a shadow of nice evening
In her gait past middle age well expressed

My eyes at the clouds I walk a bit slow
Her humming voice stops me for a short while
“Poori pakaibo Halwa pakaibo”
It is a refrain blended in a smile

The tongue is a dulcet ethnic Hindi
I will cook poori and halwa-- it said
Delicious dish for the olfactory
I look at the jasmines in her long braid

In spite of her soiled sari and lean look
Inside her she keeps the flow of her brook

Rain havoc
Probir Gupta Jul 2017
Here in Kolkata it has been raining
Sometimes in torrents sometimes in light drop
Nimbus clouds are endlessly thundering
For a little shelter larks hop and hop

The sky overcast in densely black cloud
The normal flow of life has gone haywire
Weak bridges cave in before helpless crowd
We are robbed of our poems as it were

The ruthless rain in city and village
The sky collapsing in shirts and trousers
Crazy monsoon in meaningless pillage
The garden smiles though in scented flowers

The rescue team is calling you and me
Hey come let’s join the life in poetry

A Stunning Delight
Probir Gupta Jul 2017
A storm breaks out in a fragrant orchard
The sight of apples dancing in full bloom
Whets the hunger of the horses in wind
Turns the squall into greedy tornado

Rooftop plundered reason burst asunder
The tornado blows in a mighty speed
In the midst of noon a deep dusk descends
Rooms vibrate in an exciting tension

Then comes down the rains in heavy downpour
The collected clouds now disperse in joy
Currents lashing the sea shore are now tame
An apple tree bends down like a rainbow

Two green and pink fruits hanging in full bloom
Close to his chin to his stunning delight
