into the dragon

Tiger Striped
John Destalo
into the dragon
captured by a mouth
with no teeth
we are not chewed
we do not bleed
we are swallowed
whole
like a pill
like a cure
we are the
medicine
for what ails you
they wait for
us to reach
what they call
the bottom
but they are from

I LIKE TO SAY YOUR NAME
I LIKE TO SAY YOUR NAME
I like to say
your name
when you're
not here
turn you
into sound
conjure you out of
thin air
so that you appear
before me
dressed in sound
only
memory sketching in
the rest of you
as if sound
was just an outline
and love
colours you in
adding the voice last
so I can hear you say.
"Hello you..!"
and there you are
as present
as present
can be.
I like to say
your name
when you're
not there.

Paint My Words
Tell me the colour
Of my voice
While I whisper poetry,
Shy that the words might
Touch this still air;
Loving you has always been
Deep blue acrylics and
Muted gold filigree.

I’ve seen see hundreds of colors he doesn’t know exist
I’ve seen the creator in an atom, in a mountain
I’ve seen prophecies and miracles, births and deaths
and he says my eyes are dead
because he can’t find what he’s looking for there
