Better days to come
The sun shone today and touched my skin
the warmth reminded me of what's to come
and that's maybe all I need to know

Time to disturb the worms!
Started tidying up the plant pots
and made a friend of  a robin
Who danced down the decking a bob bob bobbin

The worms heard him coming
and hurried out of site
All exect the biggest one who quickly died of fright

With all the commotion on the ground, only seen from above
we had a few more visitors, a sparrows and a dove
Quickly joined by collard one, yes, they fell in love

The mood got a little darker
as the carrion crows flew in
Sat in rows upon the fence eyeing up the bin

They scattered as the cat arrived, he jumped upon my knee
looked at me all smiley faced
And said is it time for tea?

Time to talk!!
So, the battle continued man against man their arms of destruction
sets their manhood free.

The women and children died as they flee!

Whole cities were raised back to the ground machines rained missiles at one press of the hand.

As democracy wavers, to one last stand!

Will there be a winner who's right who's wrong just neighbors who argued then one's lost the plot.

Do we know who fired the very first shot?

So many pieces to be picked up so many scattered around
so many lives in turmoil comforted in prayer we live in hope that peace can be found.

Or the future looks grim whether the hare or the hound!

I threw it away
I finished my drink on a hot summer’s day
The container all spent, I threw it away
While walking the beach on a hot summer’s day
The container all spent came back the very next day

Amused at my find on that hot summer’s day
No use for anything, so I threw it away
Children were watching, ecological they say
So I collected the ******* I’d just throw away

Watching me closely on a day they’d normally play
I carried my container I’d once threw away
I placed it in a bin where it will now lay
Then turned to the children who were now busy at play

Then I spied a young person on that hot summer’s day
With an empty container he was about to throw away
I drew in my breath and was about loudly to say
But he walked up to the bin and that’s were it will now lay

So I’ll follow the code of my new ecological way
When my container is spent, I’ll not throw it away

What about you?

School days
I remember looking out of the window on my first day at senior school
the naughty kids were on top form, playing the fool

My Mother said this is your time, please do it for me
looking out the window thinking I just want to be free

The teachers were enthusiastic with stories passed down with time
the agricultural revolution or working in a mine

The excitement grew to fever pitch of the stories they did tell
when talking about Newton, Darwin, or Alexander Graham Bell

Excited I looked out of the window dreaming of being influential and rich
or would my teacher lower my goals to engineering, like digging a drainage ditch

So, there’s my thoughts on my school days as I look back now knowing
I’d write some stuff in my spare time and label it a poem😊
Sort of funny but also sort of true.

The Nose
When I smell you in the morning my nose tingles with delight
If I had my way in life I'd smell you all through the night

Never forget to make me breakfast, and a treat when it's time for tea
We watch TV together, I rest my head upon your knee

Work early every morning earning money for us to live
My love I hold dear to you for that's all I have to give

You walk with me you talk to me, in rain, sleet or fog
Can you guess the author of this story, yes, I'm just the family dog

Bonnie and Clyde
The storm clouds grow over that Glaswegian city
and the rain keeps falling
streams turn to rivers
and rivers turn to destruction
crushing the barriers that corral them
turning homes in to floating battering rams
as they snake there way to the Atlantic  Ocean

All is not lost.
Our mentors are meeting in Bonnie Scotland on the Clyde
How apt.

How would you describe it?
Looking out of my boat house at the wonder of the sea
The words of how to describe it, just evades me

The words rush in and then out like the tide
Happy children laughing and playing all along the seaside

Blue boats just bobbing as they have little choice
Alert lifeguards, start shouting with that big warning voice

In the rocks by the corner just around the bay
I hear seals cry for their young who are indulging at play

Sea birds take flight and glide with such ease
Then dive for the sandwich of brown bread and cheese

So, back to my wonder of describing the sea
Indulge me a little longer I’ll get it you’ll see

I’ll take a walk in the sand and maybe collect a few shells
Watch the buoys on the horizon ringing their bells

Kick off my shoes and maybe my socks
Paddle in the pools among the ***** and the rocks

Then, I hear a voice calling “it’s gone five, time for tea”
I’ll have to come back tomorrow, promise, and describe what I see

Please come visit, soon!
The three kings rode into town with frankincense and myrrh
in the distance they heard a baby's cry, yet not a soul did stir

It brought them to the cattle shed the sight could not be stranger
a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes asleep in a cattle manger

Your destiny was already written your life will save mankind
a legacy of love and hope is what you'll leave behind

But, that was 2000 years ago you tried to cleanse the world of sin
If you're ready for another visit, I think this time you'll win

We've tried to obey all your rules but they've got lost in translation
Not just one or two of us but every worldly nation

We look again into the sky for a sign, three kings, a kind stranger
And we're checking all the cow sheds to see what's in the manger

So when your ready to recruit, we'll all be your congregation
We'll make this world a better place for the people of every nation

We need help
We rode in on white shire horses, maybe a few days late
Buried in surf where we lay, twas a poet’s fate

On a leisurely journey we caught a big squall
Now I’m singing my words in the great poet’s hall

Your pilgrimage is touching, your journey not at an end
I see my sonnets and stanzas have become your best friend

Read to me lovingly on the surf now covered with sand
We’ll walk barefooted, together, cradled, hand in hand

My words on your lips, will at last set me free
Please read them aloud, as I ebb back out to sea

Alla prossima, I’ll be waiting! if I’m just out of reach?
Speak my words as your walking on Via Reggio beach

Wild Camping
I awoke to the silence
at first welcoming
then eerie, I was being watched
I quietly unzipped to peek outside
The dew upon the grass shone like diamonds
as the dawn rose
Thick mist blocked my vista of the woods that
I knew lay beyond the field
my eyes came to life as a shadow stood at the edge of the mist
His outline stood bold, muscles twitched as he grazed
ears alert to every sound, vast twisted antlers nodding with every chew of the cud
I moved slowly, then our eyes met

I could feel the beating of me heart, he could hear it
as his snort blew white

The most beautiful moment of my life

I blinked and he was gone

I found myself praying
But I’m not sure to who?
I revealed all my secrets
                                       But what could you do?
I waited and waited
                                  For heavens thunderous reply
My letter on the door step
Please I don’t want to die
The words that were written
                             Filled me with wondrous relief
You answered my prayer
                                           And renewed my belief
I will make time for religion
                                            I want you to know
Not once, not twice, three times

I remember
I remember how you looked, so proud so hansom standing
in the doorway in your new uniform.
I remember the excitement in the faces of you and your new
friends as you marched out of our village.
I remember watching the new reals of men falling, lost forever and wondering if it was you.
I remember the joy of your letters on the doormat and the sadness
of those white empty mats.
But most of all I remember that you never returned and the men who did, there faces tell a different story.
I will remember you today as that young hansom man standing in the doorway.

The plain of Marathon
The dew shone bright upon the fresh grass
as the sun broke over the mountain trumpeting in the dawn
Galloping hooves rained down upon the earth
the blood of the dead mingled with the dew
seeping deep into the earth

Cheers of the victors rained out
as the dead were being stripped of their armour
So proudly adorned in the hours before dawn
Persians Laughing and drinking
some hiding the fear that the day will bring

Two proud empires
A new dawn for one
Dark clouds gather for another
Now at the closing of day
All will know that men have been at play

your passion, your desire, your honesty.

only you can change my world, only you.

You lied.

In some in brings tears to the eyes and gentle sneeze

your footsteps in the hallway was my signal to go
So from now on I'll listen be patient, be kind

Lost and alone, ignored and put on
are the stripes you earn at the bottom of the pile

But I worked hard to be noticed
and notice I was, who could ignore my infectious smile

Then one day I looked down out of my executive suite
at the people piled high, working up from the street

I remembered the boy who was lost and alone
who worked like a dog till it was time to go home

So,
I look for me in the shadows
at the bottom of the pile
Yes, you I'm looking for, you with the infectious smile

My old mates
I sit in my pub snug, and I wait for my mates to arrive
For a year I've not heard or seen them, I hope their alive

The first taste of my beer is like my coming of age
Like the rest of my life as I turn a new page

I've been in isolation I've been lost and then found
On many occasions I'd thought I'd be deep underground

So, I smile at the new regulars they smile at me back
So nice to see you, as they pat my frail back

Alone I still sit, sad my mates never came
I sigh, as I supped, my life will never be the same

"Bartender" another beer to help this old man survive
As he sat and he waited for his mates to arrive
The end of lockdown, but not the end.
The devil stared me in the eyes
I stared at it right back, and asked the reason why

It winked and smiled and picked it’s teeth
my soul it want’s the ***** thief

I was tempted by it’s offer, to that I will not lie
so, I looked back at the devil and stared it in the eye

I’ll pass this time, don’t give up, time will tell, you’ll see
the reflection in the mirror smiled, was it really me

The streets are full of people their lives are a blur

A thought has just occurred I scream and I gasp
I can boil water on the stove and make tea in a flask

But wait!

My washing machines in a spin and the TV’s back on
The kettles start’s boiling to a radio song

The web is now working Emails I can send
Hold the headlines, the worlds not come to an end

When the music takes you to new heights
you'll hover over mountains to marvel at the sight
Then a cord change takes you through fields of corn
watch the sunrise and dream of the new dawn
The strings lift you higher than ever before
as you find yourself peering at heavens door
Till the cello grounds you with its deep low base
as you fly off to the depths of space
Then as your eye slowly open and your senses come to land
you find you are guiding the music with the wave of your hand

Loving Strangers
Young winters merge in to summer sun
The wind stirs the dust of lust
Our love caught in time
Spinning
Loving strangers

Years pass
Our acorns have grown to trees
We loved and lived that life
Changing with every breath we take
Seasons from the passing years
Laying out our winter clothes
Still here we are

Loving strangers

Now we are old the winters
Bite in the dark depths
But summer smiles and old bones thawed
Strangers fall in love once more
Slaves to the moon
We’ll meet at the shores edge
Forever and ever

Washed the dishes and hoovered the mat

Broke up the crusts a feast for the birds
Finished the crossword with all the wrong words

Sat on the sofa I think I'm ready for bed

Checked all my emails and texts on the phone
Now it's time to get tea ready for when the misses comes home

The winter hare twitched his nose
at the jingling of bells in the distance
A robin sat on a bush watching
a sleigh take to the sky pulled by reindeers, one with a red nose
And the crow sat high in a tree puzzling over
a happy old man trying to squeeze down a chimney
The children slept
as the snowflakes fell

Happy Christmas everyone

When the moon is lost in a cloudless sky
Be aware it's the time that the night elves fly

They hover at each house as our children sleep
In search of the sweet dreams of our children to reap

Our duty of care is to secure the windows closed tight
Or our children's sweet dreams may be lost to the night

So guard your children's dreams from the thief of the night
Until the opening of dawn at the breaking of light

How sad is that
When someone touches your heart with a kind deed

Your instinct is to give something back to that person

Not many of us actually do

How sad is that?
I don't know how to say this, but, you know!
He said, as my stomach tightened
May be we should have a break?
He said, as my hands lifted out of my pockets.
It will be good for us, don't you think!?
He said, as a smirk broadened my face.
What do you think. He said,??
F* off I said
So, he did
And he was right, I feel great!

I wondered lonely in a shroud
Until the gates drew open and I heard out aloud

I felt a sneeze coming so I but my head in my sleeve
Don’t hide your face I know what you’ve done

The nights a lonely place when the demons are in you head
You mull around for hours picking holes in what was said
Your eyes are wide open your head is in a spin
You growl at the curtains for letting a ***** of light in

Then you gather up your thoughts and very deeply breath
You head slowly clears as the demons start to leave
You concentrate in breathing deeply through your nose
Then just when you're not expecting it your eyes start to close

And the rain fell
as I looked out the window
Fluffed up birds were dancing around the pots
Gold fish were racing around the pond
and the flowers bathed
More rain fell and I smiled
and made a Smiley face on the window pane
put my head on the window sill
and fell asleep
I dreamed of being on holidays
laying in the sun
drinking wine and watching the children
dancing to the music
then racing around the pool
as I bathed in the sun shine
and fell asleep
I dreamed I was sitting at my window
watching the rain

The Eastern world it is exploding,
cinders blowing in the wind, glowing at the rising sun.

To the sound of silence screaming its pain at the emptiness,
that was once our pride.

I gaze beyond the raging sea,
as the darkness comes and signals the end of our time.

On the eve of our destruction,
poets still write words that no one will hear, of love, life and Armageddon

Our light fades as the pen reaches the end of the page.

Careful What you Wish for
As he cast a lucky penny out into the sea, and wished,
it caught a wave and drifted down to the bottom.
Alert as always, the impact was seen by a hungry small fish
gulping up debris and food alike.

Its silver flash caught in the eye of predator who swallowed
it whole, now, with craving taste buds it spied a worm,
dangling in mid depth.
With one swish of its tail it flew to the surface,
dangling in mid air.

The fisherman smiled at such a prize, packed it in ice and sent it on
Its way to a local restaurant, to be dressed in
the finest salad, pride and place.

Feeling peckish after his walk on the sandy shore, the lucky penny thrower spied the mouth watering fish, napkin, knife and fork at the ready, quickly tucked in.

As the tender meat slowly slid down the back of is throat, so did the lucky penny.
He keeled over and died.

The moral of the story is.

There is no such thing as a Lucky Penny.
If there was why would you throw it away.
