A missed opportunity
As the moment passed
one more missile dropped
on the people
waiting
A decision not made
sends them to their grave
still the people
wait
As one more missile drops
and the moment passes

A day to dream
Sometimes I smile as I think of
someone who has been lost
I find them again deep in the
memories that warm my heart
we smile again and we laugh
and whisper of the love
that brought the joys we had
then I thank you with a blown kiss
as you float away with my dreams

Fairy footsteps
I follow her print to the forest deep
where the thicket howl and the trees weep
and among the nettles she did creep
skipping up the hills so steep

Then for awhile I lost her print
covered in rosemary thyme and mint

I strayed for a moment or maybe a mile
a tap on the shoulder, she said with a smile

Are you lost dear friend or are you just at play
if you can keep up I'll show the way
to fields of corn and cities of hay
there you can sit with us, but just for the day

I opened my eyes from that sweet deep sleep
please don't be just a dream, I start to weep

A tap on the shoulder, she said with a smile
I'll follow you closely for just a mile
when you come to the road fork with the large sleeping gnome
the right fork will take you 50 skips from your home

I sat in the window, Mum said, how was your day
I said, I laid in the corn next to the cities of hay
I met a new friend who invited me to play
I'll go back tomorrow if I can remember the way
Drifted from a poem to a tale.

Buy a new doormat
I rang the door bell and stood for a while
I saw the spy hole light up and gave it a smile

The door stayed silent the lights still dim
The silence was eerie as if you weren’t in

On the wall watching was a black and white cat
Who pointed at the "welcome" on your lying doormat
My pants draw is empty

Anything for the wash bring it down
you called, yesterday

My wash basket overflowing in the corner
commando, I thought, Na

My sister was out
No, I thought, maybe I cringed
what if I get runover?

Anyway, I didn't get run over

Sisters do come in handy:)
A smile for the day.

Our ?? Who art in ??
I found myself praying
But I’m not sure to who?
I revealed all my secrets
                                       But what could you do?
I waited and waited
                                  For heavens thunderous reply
My letter on the door step
Please I don’t want to die
The words that were written
                             Filled me with wondrous relief
You answered my prayer
                                           And renewed my belief
I will make time for religion
                                            I want you to know
Not once, not twice, three times
                                            I heard the **** crow

The meadow plant
My petals fell
in that winter sleep
Snow cradled me
to the earth so deep
Until the sun broke free
made the branches weep
As the blossoms bloomed
their secrets to keep
And the lambs made play
watched by flocks of sheep
As my petals awoke
the mad summer did hares leap

Born Today 1914 to 1953
With the children at play on a sandy Abertawe beach
At home Shakespeare recitals his father would teach

Late on he met a dancer with the same Celtic blood
A match made in London sank slowly in the mud

Back home revived them when The Boat House did call
His quill flowed quite freely to the delight of us all

Alas, New York cried out the famous Chelsea hotel
His tours a great success, only time would tell

To the Whitehorse Tavern his destined drinking well
Until his glass ran empty and time rang his last bell

His life now lost he said he’d change, if he could
His gift to us his last play, Under Milk Wood

Now buried at Laugharne, died on a cold November day
Destined to be a great poet some critics may say

Looking back my life was full of fears
Watching weeping angles with no tears

Trapped in a body so full of harm
bridling wild horses in a barn

Now the clouds are clearing I see my future ahead
Loneliness laying on your death bed

I’ll take the path that looks well-trod
Hand in hand with the son of god

A beautiful site, gliserin in the black cold white star-lit night
floating deep in the depths of that calm ocean
Natures unstoppable force
I watch closely from the safety of my porthole
on mans newest immovable object, Royal Mail Steamer
Hooot, Hooot sounds the call as we pass
too close
They meet
The screams ring out
And the world woke that cold winter morning
there was no light
there was no heat
vehicles were left where they stopped
not abandoned just worthless

We looked out the window
dressed in overcoats, scarf, onesie's
and double socks
trying not to breath on the glass

Neighbors shrugging shoulders
listening to a battery operated radio
fuming at the demands coming from the
private islands of the new world oligarchs

Across the way
smoke billowed form a house which still had
a chimney, we could feel the heat

I told the children stories of when I was a child
In the winter I had to get the coal from the
coal bunker at the bottom of the garden
chop sticks place them on top of old news papers
and light the fire for my brothers and sisters

The good old days I smiled to myself
as I found an unused summer barbecue
we huddled around it and toasted some bread
the children laughed
we will survive
Don't have to be Russian to be an oligarch.

I followed the Tortoise
I followed the tortoise on my journey thru life
we stopped and pondered studied the stars
and watched the sea, was it in or was it out
People were our main observation
how strange we all are how different
We learnt love, humility and kindness
were our greatest assets
we learnt that not all agree But we learnt

You followed the hare on your journey thru life
you never stopped to ponder, watch or observe
you never felt love, humility or kindness
you never learnt
all that mattered to you was you

At the end I asked did you enjoy your time
for the first time you pondered
a tear touched your cheek
Started tidying up the plant pots
and made a friend of  a robin
Who danced down the decking a bob bob bobbin

The worms heard him coming
and hurried out of site
All exect the biggest one who quickly died of fright

With all the commotion on the ground, only seen from above
we had a few more visitors, a sparrows and a dove
Quickly joined by collard one, yes, they fell in love

The mood got a little darker
as the carrion crows flew in
Sat in rows upon the fence eyeing up the bin

They scattered as the cat arrived, he jumped upon my knee
looked at me all smiley faced
And said is it time for tea?

Gods garden
My eyes tell me they don't belong here
flourishing in a foreign climate
Invasive some say?
they do no harm, do they?

The natives seem content
letting their seeds mix
For a stronger more colourful future
or will the garden be overrun

The gardener, bless him
seems to have lost control
Sat in his hut drinking tea, watching
sharpening his secateurs

The deadheading is ruthless
lazy and the weak first, then the needy
The natives are nearly all gone
some clinging on, fighting back

My eyes tell me I don't belong here
maybe I'll flourish in warmer climes
I'll do no harm
honest?
Down at the bottom of the Tylwyth Teg wood
by the felled great oak, among the hog **** and blue
bells, close your eyes, look, look, you're there now, can you see it
just under the bending branch, the sun casts it's shadow among the dead leaves, the Bwbach.
Its looking up at the song bird, sat high in the willow singing elegies of time gone by
look, look a tear runs down its cheek, as it sits there alone.
Quiet, don't move, it's pointing up, up there at the sky
Where, where to? there's nothing there
No, there's nothing there just a canvas for your imagination,
use it wisely! said the voice of the Bwbach.

School days
I remember looking out of the window on my first day at senior school
the naughty kids were on top form, playing the fool

My Mother said this is your time, please do it for me
looking out the window thinking I just want to be free

The teachers were enthusiastic with stories passed down with time
the agricultural revolution or working in a mine

The excitement grew to fever pitch of the stories they did tell
when talking about Newton, Darwin, or Alexander Graham Bell

Excited I looked out of the window dreaming of being influential and rich
or would my teacher lower my goals to engineering, like digging a drainage ditch

So, there’s my thoughts on my school days as I look back now knowing
I’d write some stuff in my spare time and label it a poem😊
Sort of funny but also sort of true.

Along the Seashore
A ghostly figure lay silent,
waves soothing it gently on the seashore.
Closer I walked footprints becoming lighter
in the soft ebbing sand, I stopped.
Aghast at the sight of this large ocean going
giant laying silently as the sun rose over it
lighting up its silken skin.

As I gently touched it
my mind wondered deep into the seas and oceans
of its world, a swish of the tail
the playfulness of the dive
hunting and being hunted,
playing and loving.
Watching giants of the deep that no person has seen, yet.
Giants vessels floating, with people pointing,
leaving filth as they go, smiling, happy.

As the sun hit my face my eyes opened
and I smiled,
the freedom it had and the life it had
and the right to die when ready?
I looked down and dropped to my knees
pulling the plastic from its mouth,
tears in my eyes
I apologised for the human race
I was ashamed
I was ashamed.

A red moon
The day of the red moon
the fire burned still bright
people of the world danced
as if a sign of hope arouse
they wondered wonderful thoughts
of hope, love, life and happiness
then as the flames reached the horizon
the moon set
In the words of a poet on a great Paris street
The man shuffled and danced by just moving his feet
Then he uncorked a bottle of Bordeaux red
And walked around with two glasses balanced on his head
The crowd gasped and screamed with bated alarm
As he placed a white napkin over his arm
He then spied two lovers arm in arm at a table
Stretched up for the two glasses while flashing his navel
He poured the red wine with aplomb and such grace
Then watch a broad smile cover each lovers face
His job was done by just moving his feet
So he shuffled and danced down a great Paris street
The house settled slowly into a deep deep sleep
The floor board could be heard yawning
The wind brushed the window
he's coming it whispered
Hush said the bed with a sock hanging from it's nose
the children are asleep

The cat lay sleeping on the settee
and let out a one eyed peep
as dust fell from the chimney
The dog in the armchair sat up
ears touching the celling
as he saw the footprints of Santa’s soot-black feet.

Now the smell of Christmas wafts through the house

The children’s noses twitched
And let out big Christmas yell
Quick, SANTA’S BEEN

All the house was awoken to the sounds
of great joy and the happiness

The smiles on the faces this day
light up the world
and we wish it could be Christmas every day

scared of the people who will be hurt

I held you hand
I watched
a candle flicker and fade,
burn bright one last time
in its last good buy,
as the ember dies.
Death is a lonely place.
After the light,
dusk falls,
memories fade.
Looking out of my boat house at the wonder of the sea
The words of how to describe it, just evades me

The words rush in and then out like the tide
Happy children laughing and playing all along the seaside

Blue boats just bobbing as they have little choice
Alert lifeguards, start shouting with that big warning voice

In the rocks by the corner just around the bay
I hear seals cry for their young who are indulging at play

Sea birds take flight and glide with such ease
Then dive for the sandwich of brown bread and cheese

So, back to my wonder of describing the sea
Indulge me a little longer I’ll get it you’ll see

I’ll take a walk in the sand and maybe collect a few shells
Watch the buoys on the horizon ringing their bells

Kick off my shoes and maybe my socks
Paddle in the pools among the ***** and the rocks

Then, I hear a voice calling “it’s gone five, time for tea”
I’ll have to come back tomorrow, promise, and describe what I see

The three kings rode into town with frankincense and myrrh
in the distance they heard a baby's cry, yet not a soul did stir

It brought them to the cattle shed the sight could not be stranger
a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes asleep in a cattle manger

Your destiny was already written your life will save mankind
a legacy of love and hope is what you'll leave behind

But, that was 2000 years ago you tried to cleanse the world of sin
If you're ready for another visit, I think this time you'll win

We've tried to obey all your rules but they've got lost in translation

We look again into the sky for a sign, three kings, a kind stranger
And we're checking all the cow sheds to see what's in the manger

The robin whispered to the tortoise
who winked with a broad smile
I'll meet you at the edge of the wood
where the road sign say's 1 more mile

The robin met him at the spot
and sat upon the sign
The tortoise let out a big huff
robin said, come on your doing fine

Another half a day had passes
until they went that extra mile
Robin whispered to tortoise
who winked with a broad smile

All the animals of the woods and fields
gathered at the end of that last mile
Where a hare whispered to a hedgehog
who winked with a broad smile

Yes, tortoise and robin drooled
at the thought of first taste
Then a chief came out of the restaurant door
on a table laid the waste

After you said robin NO you first
said tortoise with great hast
robin pushed his share on to the floor
tortoise tucked into the waste
Poor hare and hedgehog sat patently
wating for a taste

Robin said it's a free for all
as they all tucked in to eat
tortoise munched contentedly
as the salad leaves fell at his feet

So, if life is getting to you and your finding it hard to smile
No matter how long it takes please go that extra mile

In the shadows
Lost and alone, ignored and put on
are the stripes you earn at the bottom of the pile

But I worked hard to be noticed
and notice I was, who could ignore my infectious smile

Then one day I looked down out of my executive suite
at the people piled high, working up from the street

I remembered the boy who was lost and alone
who worked like a dog till it was time to go home

So,
I look for me in the shadows
at the bottom of the pile
Yes, you I'm looking for, you with the infectious smile
The flames burnt high
I pictured hell as I heard the screams
of the innocent, sobbing
a crowd gathered but not in silence

Hysteria built and hatred grew
the crowed turned to a mob
burn the witch
burn the witch

The hunters scanned the crowd
for sympathizers
burn the witch I shouted
burn the witch I shouted

I stole her ashes
in the evening after next
and scattered them in the woods amongst the
parsley, sage , rosemary and thyme

Our acorns have grown to trees

Changing with every breath we take
Seasons from the passing years
Laying out our winter clothes
Still here we are

Now we are old the winters
Bite in the dark depths
But summer smiles and old bones thawed
Strangers fall in love once more
Slaves to the moon
We’ll meet at the shores edge

The duck stood quacking drowned out by the chickens cluck
as they waddled for breakfast in the farm yard muck

But the pig was happy and wallowing messily around
next to the goat who was standing on higher ground

The hungry horse was watching and swishing its tail
spied a piece of lettuce being carried by a snail

Then a black bull strode in an awesome sight
just as the duck and chicken started to fight

The sheep dog stood studying looking nothing like a sheep
Just as the pig grabbed a towel to wipe his feet

Then the farmer appeared with a bail of hay
past it around and said, have a good day

The animals were happy some ran to the fields to play
and they all slept soundly after a wonderful day

Your instinct is to give something back to that person

So, I layed out my flowers in that long flower queue

Be the one who makes the difference desirer comes from deep within
Its a fight we should all be fighting just sit and wonder if we will win

I was tempted by it’s offer, to that I will not lie

could not be broken the hardest of men
Yet, the rain came at first so gentle bathing
him softly then relentlessly
Next the wind searching every crevice
releasing the smallest spec of dust
Then the sun ******* out and remaining moisture
the cracks appeared
Ageing was the worst that once proud upright
hardest of men slowly aged
his life fell all around him until he broke
He ask for help

From that day forth his life changed
washed by the gentlest of hands
dried with care and hope
kept warm with smiles and laughter
accepting age and the inevitabilities it brough
is now remembered with love

Etched on the tallest of granite stone.
