Solitary

Alone I sit once again
a prisoner of my thoughts
pressing questions left unanswered
in the setting dusk
only time will tell the tale
of pennance versus praise
standing up or laying down
the choice is ours to make

Sending this out
across the sea
to one who shares
a passion with me
a friendship born upon the net
comparing notes and writers sweat

through dark times
and lighter too
advice is shared
the odd pic too
to sea how others
go about
their daily lives
with out a doubt

It is the greatest
gift of all
to share a vision
see the same  star
with some one from
a distant shore
thank you friend

The Circle
Scot Powers Apr 2013
darkened room  quartet's playing
the crowd, hungry for more
down here air is getting hazy
your ashen faced ,headed for the door
came again for the painted lady
her eyes you can't ignore
black dress, silk stockings
memories of long ago

sometimes I feel I'm going nowhere
sometimes I feel it's my time to win

Dawn is breaking, streets are empty
you look around from your hole
some people say that your crazy
but man that's not it at all
in the alley there's an entrance
a vision slot on the door
secret knock gains you entry
inside elixirs steal your soul

some times I feel I'm going nowhere
sometimes I feel it's my time to win

darkened room quartet's playing
you stumble back through the door
came again for that painted lady
her eyes you can't ignore
ruby lips, long finger tips
they rock you to the core
secret knock gains you entry
'round the circle here we go

some times I feel I'm going nowhere
sometimes I feel it's my time to win
'round and round this circle never ends
carry on boy quitting's no way to end.

For Life
Scot Powers Mar 2013
As I was driving
down the country road
the moon seemed to chase me
swiftly I drove

It came without warning
it came with haste
a blinding white spotlight
blazed in my face

Next thing I knew
it couldn't be
I was not where
I was supposed to be

a long way from home
alone in the trees
my car sitting idle
I feel ill at ease

How did I get here
where could I be
confusion and pain
coursing through me

Bruises and cuts
as if I were dragged
all over my body
feeling so drained

who will believe
what happened to me
they will all laugh
contemptibly

I alone know
the reality
another experiment
performed upon me

They have been coming
since I was thirteen
little doctors choosing
to steal from me

All that I am
and what makes up me
keeping for themselves
for their own need

I wonder if they
will be here for life
taking what they want
escape in the night

I know I am not
the only one
to suffer in silence
beaten and robbed

There have been others
and there will be
even more victims
long after me

Maybe some day
they will agree
we're all the same
our species....

stumbling blind
through the hallways of my years
wasting time,grinding my gears
got to suffer
seems it's the only way
to make the effort
seem worth the pain

Stand back
take a look at what you see
drives you crazy,your so naive
all your troubles
you can add them to my list
my plate is full ,but I'll get another dish

You know who speaks the truth
don't forsake your entire youth
stand up by yourself and you will find the way
as the shepherd
leads the fools away

Barren wastelands
are the landscape of your mind
no more goals
no mountains to climb
treading water in a sea of misery
keep your head out of the endless waves

Impossible angles

A parchment square

reveals the path
careful, don't fall

A journey to

well I see now
things are still the same
empty words
your lying brings you no shame

you keep from me
better look for
someone else to play

I should have seen it coming
but it hit me like a ton of bricks
you would think by now
I'd know all your *****  tricks
sitting all alone
wondering why it's got to be this way
sitting there all alone
looking at the telephone
wondering if it's really all inside my head

the shame is on me
took me for a fool again
patience now

I'd know all your ***** tricks

Pitfalls
Scot Powers Jun 2013
In my forty-sixth year
I have learned to stay clear
of the pitfalls which once
befell me

Lessons I've learned
as the years burned
have turned out
to warn me

the voice in my head
quells urges to tread
where once  it seemed
I ran blindly

perspectives  have changed
like  land after the rains
have rushed by and scoured
it dry

feelings have changed
as I watch with dismay
society falling around me

the lines of the past
no longer last
blurring to a grey
hazy outline

it is claimed to be
kinder and gentler to thee
but a savageness
does underlie

all that remains
of the kindness that's claimed
cheap fascia, wrecked by the rain

gentleness does apply
to those who ask why
ignorant of their surrounds

a kick in the rear
still it appears
is truly a step forward

as I have related
these feelings belated
again the changes occur

to all I must say
thank you this day
for reading the
words from my soul
just a Sunday morning adventure with the Muses and some coffee.

Fortune teller gave me the score
what you're doing, told me some more
can't go back to what we knew
it's all right honey
I'll get over you

Standing alone,like the night before
you can't buy love at the liquor store
always searching,never complete
since we parted on that winters eve

I am fine ,how are you
that new style sure suits you
are you sure your happy this way
did you think of us today

Time has passed and you know for sure
bad idea's closing the door
feeling foolish like you know you should
sheepish looks in the neighborhood

I am fine, how are you
I am happy, I feel great
watching you fall flat on your face.

when I look back
yesterdays mistakes
always have a payback
you stand in  line
for your little taste of pleasure
do you really think
you've had your measure

Oh but  I can't,
can't waste my days
I got things to say
please don't walk away
now I see

You can whine and pine
feeling lonely
feeling sorry for yourself
loathing
accept the fact
that you are only human
better get your ***
back in the action

Oh but I can't
can't waste my days
I got things to say
but I can't look away

Scot Powers Mar 2016
As lazy days turn to night
wasted days steal your life
oddly it seems,we just can't see
the bountiful harvest
that waits for thee

We stumble and bumble
as weeks turn to years staring so blindly
as smiles turn to tears
tending the gardens intentions have made
while riding along in life's parade

The time passes faster
the older you grow
while perspective runs deeper
as experience's flow
the river of life
is long and winding
with rapids and backwaters
so keep your sight keen

Scot Powers Mar 2013
When I first met you
a teardrop in my eye
crying gently
as you squeezed my finger tight
we introduced you
to the world the next day
you wrinkled your nose up
and we headed on our way

We'll make mistakes along the way
there's not much more to say
we'll make mistakes along the way
but it's true
we'll always love you

Staring through
the looking glass of time
I can still see you
riding your first bike
the scrapes and bruises
you earned yourself that day
proved to serve you well
on your life's journey

We'll make mistakes along the way
there not much more to say
we'll make mistakes along the way
but it's true
we'll always love you

Looking at you
14 and so alive
seeing you grow up
right before my eyes
the years have come and gone
oh so quickly
it's hard to believe
you'll soon be 18

We'll make mistakes along the way
there's not much more to say
we'll make mistakes along the way

The Night
Scot Powers Mar 2013
Waking from a frightening dream
quaking in the night
who has heard my wordless scream
echo through the night
did I wake someone else
from a pleasant dream
or am I facing all alone
this wordless, pain filled scene

The morning sun,warms my soul
makes me feel alright
the demons can not chase me here
they're only out at night
so I'll make my way
through the day as best as I can
with pleasant thoughts filling me
of good deeds done by man

I can feel the terrors stalking me
as the sun goes down
planning their next attack
when my guard is down
encircle my bed with a charm
I heard once long ago
hair rising on my neck
as the wind begins to blow

Again she comes and stands silent
at the bottom of my bed
holding out her hand to me
beckoning me to my end
so sweet she looks, as she waits
so patiently for me
her lips curl up to reveal
a nightmarish scene
eye teeth longer than the rest
the fear comes rushing in
then she's looking in my eyes
caressing my exposed neck

She sinks her head lower
I can feel her fetid breath
the coldness runs down my spine
I begin to sweat
I struggle in my sheets
trying to get away
silently screaming to myself
then I am awake
I am sure this is just a dream
but I must ask myself
why is my neck so sore
and why have I bled

Connections
Scot Powers Dec 2013
As the reel of past events
slowly does unwind
pictures and emotions
seem to drift like the tide

As the waves come rushing in
embrace the flowing light
take a trip upon the wind
like a leaf taking flight

Soaring ever higher
vision blooming like a flower
suspended in a tranquil mist
watching events transpire

Knowing you can't change events
a stunned witness you remain
muted as you shout inside
with regrets your soul is stained

Look into the future
with a heart that's burden free
don't take the past and wear it
just like Marley's chains

Make amends then move on
life is short you see
enjoy the days that you have
set your spirit free

Don't cry to me of hardships
we all have paid a price
everybody has a past
and another set of lies

The things I think that matters most
are the connections that are made
truly understanding
what the other has to say

When we meet eye to eye
on equal ground we stand
looking through the others eyes
examining ourselves

Smile a lot and say hello
to everyone you meet
together we can re form a bond
we once called society

long summer days
innocence lost
merciful haze

this sickly tale

the school playground
broken trust
the color light brown

broke the window
set me free

I might not be
able to write
this sad story

I thank you now

by making the most
of the life you saved

I can still hear
footsteps ringing out
coming up the stairs
to finish me off

Breaking glass
the sound does thrill me
it is the sound
of being set free

The Contract
Scot Powers Mar 2013
A contract is a contract
a deed is a deed
for what I am paid
I must complete
that is the way
of life for me
I'll take care of your problem
for a fee

My parents are gone
can bring them no shame
won't leave a mark
on my family name
the family I serve
knows the life well
there is no turning back
the toll of the bell

Innocent victims
do bother me
at least for a while
till the drugs settle me
but it is false
this delaying of pain
at night I can see them
silently asking
"why have you taken
my life from me?"
"in order to feed
your unholy need"

I have no answer
to give to thee
it is just business
at least to me
stalking by moonlight
silently creeping
keep out of sight
my quarry can't see
slip out of the shadows
deliver the blow
disappear in the night
collect my dough

I chose this life
it seemed so cool
but after years
the toll, let me tell
going to hell
a certainty
enjoy myself now
counting money

A wig and some make up
so it can't be seen
who is doing
these dastardly deeds
maybe a pistol
or a knife in the neck
or maybe a bomb
placed in a pack
no matter the way
when I have been paid
there will be no stopping
your life I will take

ROBBED
Scot Powers Mar 2013
Turns out we had a visitor
sometime after dark
the little puke
walked in our door
and then he did make off
not only with my things
but some cash as well
then left my stuff all strewn
all over my front stair

it was not a nice way
to wake up I'll say
looking upon the mess
that greeted me today
I calmly gathered all my things
out of the drifting snow
I proceeded to curse
to myself looking at the snow

I thought maybe she did it
probably ****** at me
then I saw my daughters stuff
laying there by me
I gathered all her things
and brought them in as well
I didn't really want
to stir the *** this morn
so i went about getting
my **** on out the door

I worked all day
a nervous wreck
rehearsed a thousand things to say
what I would say and she would do
as I sent her on her way
When I got through the door
I asked her" what the hell!"
Then my daughter abruptly said
"Dad it wasn't her"
I went downstairs to check my room
I was sad to see.my fretless bass was gone
then it suddenly appeared
that I had been all wrong

I hope that there is
a special place in hell
for people that rip others off
and still sleep so well
for not only do the take
some material things
you are left also robbed of
perhaps the greatest thing
your sense of comfort
and well being
your faith in humanity

corn fields they roll on row by row
wide open spaces stretch for miles
except for this ribbon I live on

It's always the same
no matter the games that you play
it's always the same
until you turn it around

In this lonely old mining town in the springtime
you can here a nickle drop on the floor
crows gathered on the fence post they're yakkin
with the scarecrow in the fall

It's always the same

As I sit here
in my house
I wonder why
I am at a loss
my family is here
but I'm so alone

nobody cares
how I feel
so I just pour it out
for you to hear
I hope this doesn't
bother you
just had to say
I hope it heals

the sky is clear
my future 's bright
but today I think
I am losing my fight
to hold onto my sanity
people come and people go
but does anybody
really want to know

what is going on
in my heart,in my soul
here's the dice take a roll
hands held out to be fed
not one concern
about my head
or the thoughts
bouncing around
just wish I had
someone around

To hold and hug
comfort and console
That is what I crave for
been so long
out of touch
I 've lost the sense
of a lovers touch
so alone am I today
words alone just can't say

The music that I play
helps keep my demons away
the words I write
makes me feel alright
but deep down inside
I think it is how I hide

from the tragedy
of my past
I'm coming apart
very fast
losing my grip
on my cool
I can't help
but sink in this pool

this pool is oh so deep
treading water
but still can't reach
the shallow end
is far away
can I last another day

The Prophet
Scot Powers Feb 2015
Spreading division
spewing forth hate
an inferno was growing
instead of debate
unwilling to reason
unwilling to bend
he preached of restoring
his view of the faith

It mattered not
whom he'd killed
or made to suffer
infidels they 'd been
unworthy of life
in the creators grand scheme
they were lower than slug
the vision he'd seen

Attracted to him
were the lowest of low
the uneducated
would die for his cause
he peddled in hope
while selling his dream
taking out on the innocent
his satanic scheme

A loser in life
a loser in love
lashing out at his neighbors
demanding they look
upon his new greatness
surely they'd see
a man of importance
he'd finally be

Lines were now crossed
there was no going back
forces were gathering
a decisive strike back
with no more warnings
for none were required
the world would soon see
this prophet retired

Quietly
Scot Powers Feb 2015
Quietly she entered
and crept across the floor
knowing all too well
the pleasure that would flow

Slowly she approached the bed
there laid a supine form
her heart began to skip a beat
as she undid her robe

Revealing herself  to the night
and to the lying form
gently she began to kiss his neck
her skin was getting warm

Slowly she descended
her tongue leading the way
he wrapped his arms around her
in his loving way

gripping and pulling him
closer to her mouth
her hot breath sent quivers
as she licked the tender shaft

She took him in her mouth
and began to gently ****
he rubbed her moist tightness
and probed her with his tongue

Then they rolled over
still tenderly embraced
and worked together thrusting
to reach a higher place

She dragged her nails across his back
the moans began to rise
sensations racing forward
searching each others eyes

Releasing waves of pleasure
reaching out at the same time
their pleasured moans a symphony
entangled and divine

I'll Go Down Swinging
Scot Powers Jul 2013
Rolling fields remind me
of the distance I feel
staring out at the darkness
trying to be real
left cold shoulders behind me
round and round go the wheels
putting miles between us
seems so unreal

but I'll go down swinging
for my friends
make my mark and stand
but I'll go down swinging
believe me
you don't want
to know where I've been

As I look around me
am I a lucky man
friends stand beside me
always seem to understand
as the headlights search out
shadows to the right , to the left
strait white lines deceive you
lines and horizon start to blend

But I'll go down swinging
for my friends
make my mark and stand
I'll go down swinging
believe me
you don't  want
to be where I've been

Seems I've come full circle
beat myself once again
stronger when we're together
than alone against the wind
how we let something divide us
robs me of my words
standing now beside you
I feel whole again

But I'll go down swinging
for you friend
take you by the hand
I'll go down swinging
believe me
you don't want
to be where I've been

active strife
not knowing when
enough is enough
carrying on

as I start
to reflect a bit
seems to me
I was a ****
as I have aged
a new person arose
replacing one
with one who knows

The difference between
some souls it seems
is greatly reduced
when kindness precludes
an understanding ear
o'er a glass of dark beer
can bring out a smile
that might last awhile

so before you insult
consider the drought
of humanity within your soul
always reach out
even in doubt
for the life you will save

The Olden Gods
Scot Powers Mar 2013
They came from above
on chariots of fire
intent on delivering
knowledge inspired

The spaceports were built
seen only from above
scratched from the soil
carved from the rock

We welcomed them openly
praised their light
built statues of tribute
studied the night

They gave us a goal
and then shut us down
seems we were smarter
than they bargained for

When we reached out
and touched the sky
they confused our tounges
so we couldn't fly

They were afraid
of losing their place
aloft in the heavens
Gods out of place

Then they descended
and took for mates
merging within us
create a new race

Mutants were born
then tried to disgrace
the very Gods
who ruled this place

The revolt came swiftly
and from it came
they abandoned the planet
went back whence they came

Ever since that day
we still deny grace
defending the knowledge
keeping them away

Missing all the moments

Sitting here reflecting
upon a friend now lost
missing all the moments
when we brought down the walls

The music it was magic
the feelings moving with the time
changing yet always constant
a never rhyming rhyme

Ten years they passed so swiftly
t'was really quite a ride
the bands they changed
yet we remained
bonded for the time

Ups and downs
there were a few
we crossed the divide
living for the songs
one living note at a time

Nobody had
the same rapport
nobody ever could
nobly we played the notes
man it was good

You have gone
Yet I remain
a true and solid friend
remembering with fondness
all the moments spent

These two years
have gone so quick
it's really hard to digest
sometimes I sit and listen
you really haven't left
Two years ago today Brian Guest was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident, we played together for a decade we laughed , we learned , but most importantly WE PLAYED!
I miss you my brother.

Blood red sky
in the morn
there's a flag
faded and torn
whipping fast
in the wind
rippling softly
like sweet sin
staring off
into the sky
pondering the reasons
for and why
stands a man
with wet brow
searching horizon
from the prow
ever looking
for the land
for which he left
it seems unplanned
from the sea
arose the shore
but is that what
he's looking for?

The Banshee
Scot Powers Jan 2015
All at once the memories
come crashing to the fore
transporting me back in time
where I was yet once before

My hands began to tremble
shivers shook me to the core
sweat began to bead my brow
the clock struck half past four

The keening wail pierced the night
the Banshee's mournful cry
heralding yet another
passing of my kind

The creature it has followed us
from an early time
a transgression of an ancestor
brought this curse to life

Our family has a history
we came from on the moors
just poor Celtic farmers once
a past that is no more

Warily I look around
from ceiling the the floor
it seems that it has found me
its duty carried forth

I once thought this was fantasy
a scary story told
by my aging grand parents
when the nights were dark and cold

But now the horror strikes me
as I settle to the floor
I am the last one of my kind
The Banshee will cry no more

A Voice
Scot Powers Feb 2014
As the hands of time slowly trod
around the glowing dial
the musty flavor of the air
made the room strangely drier
a growing sense of dread ensued
as minutes turned to hours
silence became my enemy
a voice, all I desired

picked up on the way home
unsure of what transpired
shackled to the table now
weary and defiled
left to think about my crime
no  one would hear my voice
until a measured time had expired
the truth it will suffice

What crime have I been charged with
you must respect my rights
or is this a kangaroo court
my fate has been decided
all these thoughts  and many more
surface with passing time
silence is the enemy
it will control your mind

As silence slowly takes it's hold
of all of you desires
you will withdraw into a ball
confused but happy all the while
letting go of all your cares
is really a simple thing
without a voice of reason
your future is quite bleak

Footsteps ringing down the hall
steadily getting nearer
all the protests I will make
my voice they'll surely hear
a twist of the door handle
announces fate has arrived
as dread and hope fight for control
of my fragile mind
a blank faced man nods my way
he says"Your free to go".
shocked at hearing someone talk
I just gaped with out control

I found myself silent
unable to complain
gratefully I shook his hand
and then got on my way
this was the most boring
two hours of my life
there can be no question
next time I'll use my voice

Silent Warnings
Scot Powers Jan 2013
Silent warnings
dimly perceived
shadows falling
like dead leaves

Just another story
like you and me
dissedent reason
can't ever please

Standing alone
in a crowd
waiting for emotions
to cloud

Cant stand inside the ring
cant even perceive a thing
always striving
for the truth

Making a martyr of
my youth
now it seems
long in the tooth

Keeping young
is just a game
being young
your voice to gain

Too soon
Scot Powers Mar 2015
With glowing eyes
meeting mine
time stood still
so divine
watching as
the sun did set
for all the trials
no regret
to have another
loving day
sharing laughs
while we play
but those days
are ending soon
the sands of time
change the rules
so I will grasp
and cling to
my little girl
an adult too soon.
For my Daughter, man where have the years gone..,

Old Man Winter
Scot Powers Jan 2013
Old man winter
came to call
seems so bitter
worse than fall
howling winds
drifting snow
bites right through you
leaves you raw
only those who understand
what it's like in a frozen land
appreciate the spring time thaw
warm and cozy like a shawl
I can hardly wait till then
the warming days
and balmy wind
they give way
to rainy days
when flowers grow
and children play
summer comes and goes so fast
warm days slip into the past
from long days
nights grow cold
fall arrives almost untold
just in time to chill the bones
Old man winter rises soon
how the changes come too soon

Hope
Scot Powers Apr 2013
I have waited
with breath baited
far too long for you
to tell me a lie
emotional high
oh, my soul it will soothe
to feel just for once
that I was the one
feel like the hand
that fits in the glove
to be the one
that lights up your night
being the sun
burn away your night

yet again I can see
this will not be
just a lonely old codger
not a gull on the sea
chasing a dream
can never attain
a dance with an angel
to feel young again
a walk through the valley
never hurt any one
can only become stronger
when this day is done.

Sun and sand and surf for me.

I got in the van
We prepared to leave
The man in black
Stuck a needle in me

There's surf and sand
Just like I dreamed

There's a lot of ships out in the sea

A beautiful  day
A nice warm breeze
Where's the girls

A plane flys above
It drops a treat
Next thing I knew
I ceased to be

Liberty, Oh Liberty
How I do seek thee
free from all fear of man
free to live in a peaceful land
having what you own be yours
not a slave to foreign shores

Liberty, Oh Liberty
are you just a dream
everyone has equal say
everyone has their day
walk with out need
of a helping hand
walk with a smile
gracing the land

Liberty,Oh Liberty
Hast thou forsaken me
littered lives are everywhere
without so much
as a backwards glare
abandoned homes
and broken stuff
too much dependence
on the good 'ol Gov.

Liberty ,Oh Liberty
oh how I still seek thee
to stand beside our fellow man
preserve the freedoms
bought on the sands
from the aggressors
where they stand
free to reach the stars above
free to reach the heights of love

Liberty,Oh Liberty
how I do seek thee

The kettle started boiling
as our clothes fell to the floor
that little whistle blowing
as we sought each others love
you grasped, I probed
so willingly
we both fell to the floor
locked in sweet ecstasy
lust pushed love out the door

Scot Powers Jan 2014
Running on empty
the way that I roll
rebel for nothing
can't find a cause
dissidant   reason
stems the flow
distant horizon
for which I've set course

Just around the corner
I stand to make a change
just around the corner
I stand to make some gains

Measured reactions
to words laced with barbs
unreal sensations
leaves me quite stunned
brash objections
to all that I've done
makes me wonder
where I went wrong

Just around the corner
I stand to make a change
Just around the corner

Scot Powers Nov 2013
Blinded by wind
and billowing snow
frozen horizon
distant shore

Out on the ice pack
time is on loan
death's always stalking
which way will you go

Freeze in the night
or a treat for a bear
survivals the name
of the game out there

Maybe you'll drift
for many a day
slowly you'll starve
maybe your saved

Perhaps while your blinded
you'll step through a hole
drop through the ice
succumb to the cold

You cry for your mamma
how did you get here
traded a bit of adventure
and lost all that's dear

Farewell to Mamma
farewell to ye all
there's no hope for tomorrow
going for a stroll...........

Voices
Scot Powers Feb 2013
Are those voices
I perceive
or pigeons cooing
on the eaves
distant whispers
tickle my ear
filling me with
joy and fear

Joy of seeing
someone new
fear of what
they might do
if they discovered
the secret that I have
held for many years

The trees hold silent vigil
forever they're on guard
the mountains slowly echo
the rivers wandering song
the air so fresh it tingles
your every sense alive
a secret worth protecting
until the day I die

Mother nature rules here
never have a doubt
she draws you in
with her beauty
then it's a
life or death bout
fools often perish
Mother nature smiles
another pesky human
has tried and failed tonight

No it is not voices
that I hear at all
it is just the remnants
energy , that's all
try to imagine
all who came before
staring at you silently
awaiting some distant call.

The secret that I hold so dear
it's really nothing  new
just look around inside your self
the key will then find you
until the day you do this
you will stumble in the dark
never take for granted
permission you have not
if there is a lesson
in this life to hear
maybe you will
heed me, draw me near
and I will set you free.

Choices
Scot Powers Sep 2014
the choices that we make sometimes
can reveal many things
the sorrows that do follow us
as winter turns to spring
a winding path of reason
drives the inner beast
choosing self destruction
with one of many ways

the drugs you take to make it real
rob you of your sleep
the ***** is so succulent
warm waves that can't be beat
the roller coaster ride of life
can sometimes seem surreal
spinning uncontrollably
trapped within a wheel

the reasons for your journey
only you now hold the key
unlocking all the phantoms
setting the spirits free
don't let the anchors of your past
drag you deeper to the depths
of your sea of misery
sitting on your step

instead of looking inward
try reaching for a friend
find yourself an ally
on whom you can depend
someone who is willing
to take you by the hand
lead you out of trouble
out of this barren land

when the rays of sunshine
fall again upon your head
as the cobwebs do recede
no longer feeling the dread
of facing yet another day
trapped within the wheel
again the choices that you've made
continue to reveal

Shadows
Scot Powers Sep 2014
Shadows
you do taunt me
as you move across my wall
a trick of light which brings fright
so eerily you flow
perhaps you are a remnant
of a tragic played out scene
wandering eternity
unaware of what has been

maybe you are something else
an ancient call to flight
natures way of warning me
of creatures in the night
Often I sit and watch you
and ask my self these things
then the room seems to grow cold
sometimes you move my things
the hairs on my neck arise
my ears begin to ring

I've seen you sitting mutely
out of the corner of my eye
but when I turn to greet you
there's nothing to describe
oh you have a story
which I long to receive
tap lightly on the wall at night
the secret that you keep

I am not so afraid of you
as once I had been
just a shadow of your former self
ever repeating scene
are you aware
of just what you've become
or is this what awaits us
after our curtain call

Shadows
you do taunt me
as you move across my wall
real or imagined
a treat for us all

Till night is day
Scot Powers May 2013
Standing, staring
watching helplessly
as you turn away
you're leaving me

Joyful times,
soul full tides
happy memories
slowly  drift away
like leaves in the stream

Silent nights
wordless fights
it all seems to me
pain filled feelings
start to weaken me

I think of where
we have been
and what cannot be
there's no more to be said
our time is at an end

maybe we
can finally see
just what it means
slowly sinking in the mire
misreading your desire

Fooling my self
like only I can
almost believing
I could be your man
that you would want
the same thing too
clearly again
I had been duped

If you're
wearing your heart
upon your sleeve
there are those who
will deceive
tear down your walls
take from you
everything you thought
you knew

so move along
don't look back
the road ahead is
long and black
finding light along the way
holding on till night is day.

Howling wind
and drifting snow
defies all bounds
that I know
a winter chill
does set in
to the bone
the cold creeps in

A clearing sky
few clouds remain
cold winds burn
bring you pain
as your flesh
freezes white
mind goes numb
frost starts to bite

As you gaze
up to the sky
you ask yourself
how and why
have you found
yourself out here
all that's left
is the fear

fear of what
will come to pass
a night out here
you will not last
a frozen corpse
in the morn
no worries left
after the dawn
