Home is where the Harp is, but

no matter where I am, I can take

It out of the box and be in Galway

Bay, on the streets of Dublin with

Molly Malone or better again, by

the banks of The Blackwater with

Do you ever recall an occasion

you now regret not being more

“ Pen a peace and stop the war “

                                <>

       Request denied, my integrity

    would be compromised by such

a contribution, because I was not

summoned to compose one for Iraq.

      Besides, death is the ultimate

democracy, as not all are fortunate

enough to be born, but those of us

who were, get the opportunity to die.

The problem is, not at the same time.

Everyone has an axe to grind with

the colonisers and sure what could

sweeter than to see the great powers

annihilate themselves, everyone loves

fireworks, we missed 1666 in London.

Russell Brand said he doesn’t want

to see a nuclear escalation because

he has children, piffle I say, that is

like a woman pushing a pram

out on to the street to halt traffic.

The earth shows up those of value

and those who are good for nothing,

besides, if you believe in God there's

nothing to fear and the evolutionists

don’t mind a bit of it either, so no, I

refuse to write an anti war poem.

A gear box is a typical example of time.
there are many forward gears, a neutral position,
but only one reverse.

When we drive we are in the present looking to the future
but only occasionally refer to the past via the rear view mirror.
If we accidentally put the box in reverse while we are going forward the cogs will protest.

If we could apply this aspect of mechanics to the mind
we would discover that all movements of transmission
must pass through the neutral position.

When we retire it gives us

      ample time to look after

     our failing health faulting

     minds and broken spirits.

     Constipated thoughts are

    the blockages preventing

    us from interacting as we

   did when we were younger.

Some of us become reclusive

   we hide away from society

  our self imposed quarantines

become permanent hibernations.

Expatriation, migration, diaspora,

the ones that got away fish

always wanting ever wishing to

get back to the spawning ground.

But alas, as is often the case, the

dam weirs get taller, our lungs

shallower we end up foul hooked,

gasping at the gills, struggling for air.
