A few words were behind a thought
somewhere at the back of my mind
I caught a little glimpse of them
not knowing why they're trying to hide

~~~
I encouraged them to show themselves
so I could place them on a page
yet I'm unable to entice them
their minds I've yet to change
~~~

I'll leave those words behind the thought
somewhere at the back of my mind
when they're ready to show themselves
they'll be displayed perfectly with their own kind

I close my eyes

to feel its softness

like a cool cloth

pressing gently

upon the orbital ridge around my eyes,

the weight

at once present and absent

from lid's creases.

If I open my mouth

it will invade every crevice

available to it,

a potent reminder of its press,

a heft upon

the slim cord of air

trapped between my teeth

as i float

up to the surface.

Sitting by the fire,
He raised a glass,
Whispering words,
Of his secret past,

A solitary tear,
Wiped slowly away,
Hiding the pain,
Of that fateful day,

As a curious child,
I always wondered why,
My heroic father,
Would sit and cry,

Or wake up screaming,
Soaked in his bed,
Telling my mother,
The noise in his head,

As I grew old,
I understood why,
My soldier father,
Would sit and cry,

He lost his family,
Not linked by blood,
He witnessed things,
That no human should,

Affected by the war,
Still to this day,
His PTSD,
Is stuck on replay.

Should I jab this ink into my jugular and let the words express themselves in a manner never seen before?
All the while I pour out every single emotion ever known to exist in my being onto puddles of madness on the floor
Maybe that will allow the world to see the words for what they really are and judge the poet not
And the world can envision its own rolling fields of golden daisies in a soil made from carefully sifted rock
Praise the blood that bleeds profusely upon the lines of every page
And bless the minds of the loved and lost who discovered pain at an early age
Allow me to place the cap so carefully back atop the pen so that you may take my metaphors and open doors and churn them in your heart and head
It's only when I stop bleeding
that I am truly dead
