This Thin Rope
Looking down, all I saw was dirt.
Looking up, all i saw was gray.
Looking straight ahead, I closed my eyes.
I knelt down.
Drop your armor and your shields.
Stab your swords into the earth.
Drop your fist, and unclench your jaws.
Burn the past, and hinder the future.
Hold my hand.
Don't let go.
That's my job.
I've hung on long enough.
I've loved and cried for long enough.
I'm holding you back.
I'm suffocating your future.
Your tears cascade down your face
Why are you crying?
This thin rope won't hold us both
What is this rope you ask?
Why, it's love!
But love is weak. And love is bind
I smile at you, for one last time.
I ask you to smile for me too.
The ends of your lips quiver, but lift anyway.
"Thank you."
And I let go.
