She could have been a Cherokee
She could have been a slave
They could have sold her life away
Before her early grave.
~~~~
She could have been
a poor man's wife
She could be very famous
For being an entertainer
Or she could be nameless
-------
Who is this woman, Catherine?
Is it someone who you know?
Is this from a photograph?
We really must know more!
~~~~
The answer's very simple.
She lives in my mind.
I put my pen to paper
And I just designed.
-------
I believe the lady
I've drawn upon this page
Is the very image of *woman

The quintessential sage.
~~~~
The quilt of many colors
That spreads behind her face
Is actually a *halo
Of light to give her grace
------
So don't make assumption
When a different race you see
This drawing's of an angel
JUST LIKE YOU AND ME.
I'm French Canadian and Creole.
My great great grandmother
Was an Ottawa indigenous person.
The color of my skin
DOES NOT DEFINE WHO I AM.
Nor does my gender.
When we cut ourselves,
what color comes out?
THANK YOU.
