military oppressors
put her voice
into a muted pause
of suppression
the peoples of her land
were denied
of her ideology
that was placed
under a secure key
of a military
who wanted
her voice silenced
in totality

how can a bird that is born for joy
sit in a cage and sing
this proposition
gave thought
to some pondering
the Burmese people elected
Aung San Suu Kyi
to lead them with
a government of democracy
her message
though stifled
still bought joy
to many in her land
her voice had been
silenced by a coupe
the strains of freedom
were ingrained
in her words
that never deserted
her people's ears

liberty did come
at the release of her tongue
which carried
her nation
back to the breath
of a self determining
lung
