Be still, my soul, and open
For, in the silence, words are spoken
Soft and sometimes a whisper still
If we listen we just might hear God's will.

The spirit is a funny thing: a gentle quiet breeze
And powerful enough to bring me to my knees.
So when the spirit is moving, knocking at my heart
I am called to respond and to do my part.

It prompts, and it nudges, it calls me out when I've done wrong
And no matter where I go it always comes along.
It guides me, and teaches how to live love and act,
And it helps me to know what is lie and what is fact.

There are so many voices, my attention they all seek
I try to hear the spirit but it seems so small and weak.
How do I tell that it's the spirit that I should obey?
How can I be sure that it's not mine, but God's will and way?

Help me Lord to be open that in doing so I might find
A heart that beats for You alone, that I may respond in kind!
