we pledge our allegiance
to a God we believe
begging forgiveness
fulfill our needs
and then we move on
to do as we please
no change of heart
no dirt on our knees

used as convenience
to combat our deeds
as fire insurance
as guilt relief
and then we move on
paying no heed
memory gone
no dirt on our knees

to show that we mean it
on cue we weep
take it or leave it
one day a week
and then we move on
with dead lines to meet
no hope in our growth
no dirt on our knees
