Quietly, In The Back Of My Mind
I didn’t think it would be
So lonely
I didn’t know you would be
So distant
I didn’t realize your passion
Was so contained
I never wanted
This silence
If my thoughts create my reality
I must be thinking
So lonely —
So distant,
Contained, and silent
I must have wanted
Your disdain
I must have wanted
Endless refrains of critique
Roller coaster rides
Through scenic glens of heartbreak
Towering signs
Of failure
Up ahead
Hold on, I say to me
Until the love
Is dead
