when i was a young girl
i dreamed of a future
that held many wonders
for a youngster like me

i lived in the moment
but not for a moment
did i think that lonely
would be my destiny

i found middle age
to be less than expected
the day that i met it
youth ran out on me

now that i'm an old woman
much older than wanted
seems strange now don't it
that this is me

when i was a young girl

that now has me
