Once upon a time
I believed as a child
the world was kind and mild-

I grew up into adolescence
the grown-ups then
gave me the wrong lessons

manhood caused me
much strife and unrest
I was put to the severest test

and now I'm found
to be over ten and three-score
have had enough--want nothing more!
