Shell game / the nowhere poems
While day dreaming on
our favorite beach,
I stopped then
picked up
a peculiar
shell that most
reminded me
of you,
and put it to
my heart....
silence...
not even
the slightest
stir of
of somebody
home
to greet me.
you had
apparently left
long ago.
from this beach
that we used to
walk incessantly
for hours upon
hours to
summer’s
past serenades.
and now I am
the one only
left holding
this shell.
that no
longer fits
the two
of us.
like a poor
clown’s costume,
shoes too big,
nose too red,
smile turned
upside down
upon my
face.
and I miss
you.
