I am a woman
And you are a man.
You are celebrated
And I am tolerated.
Even when mistreated
They still call me conceited
And when I told the true story
They called it defamatory

Somehow, they punish me
For situations they did not see
People try to taint my name
And all their words increase the pain
Then when you've had all you can take
Your faith in people slowly starts to break
You'll wish the talking would just come to an end
And then it is you, the victim, who must make amends

So, never defend yourself from the start
People will judge and tear you apart
This is why no one dares to speak
Because the outcome is so often bleak
There is nothing you can do
When people change their minds about you
So, I give the finger in my head
And apologize for what I said

If I had known the pain incurred
I would have never said a word
People will critique your every move
And of your character they'll disapprove
They will break you down until you cry
Without knowing the reasons why
You acted out in such a way
When you were just trying to survive day by day
