"Sonnets From a Conversation With a Friend XIX"

Why do i speak beyond a whisper heard
Only by one self? For the same reason
I fly and crawl, and swim the deep ocean.
For the same reason i scratch my one head
With hind foot, paw, and flipper limb gleaming
Wet. I wag this tail, lick my whiskers, clack
My beak, cry my green bumpy tears. Attack
My self and eat my own flesh relishing
Every ****** morsel to the full.
Escape the womb, the egg, the pouch, the chains
Of slavery, the mind inflicted pains
In all their multitudes. I screech the call
Of mating, of attack, of fear, the same
Quiet reason for all. It needs no name.
