It comes without warning. It comes hard and fast. Before you know it Its wrapping you in its hands, Trying to drown you, Steal you, Mercilessly carry you away from the world. It comes and repeats Over and over and over How worthless you are, How ugly or pathetic. It makes you feel less than what you are And it smiles at you From inside your head. Depression is a monster. It lives and breathes Deep down within. Waiting for the right moment To snare you, Latch on, Take you away from the light. Fighting it is hard. So hard. And that's just what it wants. To have you flounder And wonder If you'll ever see the light again, If you'll ever have happy thoughts again, If you'll ever escape the nightmare again, And just when you've lost hope Is when its fangs can sink in. It's a monster. And you are its prey.
