fire in the sky
sign from the gods
time forever moving on
some imagine the night beyond
some dance in the light of the setting Sun
-

as a kid
i felt along
the walls of a
perceived dark
confinement for
escape

imagining that creatures
were taking swipes at me
with their claws and tentacles

knowing —full well— that
discovery of a light switch
would end this game of
nightmares

YEARS—

my illusion of exploration
has been reduced to ashes
from decades of rapid
illumination

just as well, i cannot afford
to trip my way through
the darkness anymore

still

some nights i will turn the
lights off and imagine myself
searching cautiously along
pitch black wooden panels

thinking next time i might
miss the switch &
instead

discover artifacts from
a lost childhood...

.
over the last decade
my torch has gotten
swapped out for a
candle

and it is increasingly
windy everywhere—

scary...

the cold despair
of an unrightable wrong

and the bright golden hope
of a songbird at dawn

the doubt of the wanderer
in the dark night

and the faith of the flower
that turns to the light

the anger and pain
of a deep trust betrayed

and the closeness and safety
that true love has made

sometimes it seems
the whole world sings
a single song

about these things

If we were lost,
Where would found be?
If you weren't here,
What space would exist?
If a void is measurable in it's vast,
Then perhaps time could extend us this kiss
If we woke up from this dream without memory,
Would my eyes latch to yours, the still the same?
Would it be years?
Would it be tears that guide us?
Or,
Would our hearts still be as one ingrained?

My mind refreshed and feeling healed
A graduation of colour across a field
A pulsating vein a water mill
The heartbeat where you drink your fill
In a reflection of an old brass pump
In the shadow of the old tree trunk
Amidst colours of foliage during fall
A splash of colour across the wall

You
this poem isn't about you
I don't know how I feel
I'd rather write about the Moon
or something else that's real

or how the rising tide can be
a metaphor for change
or something deep
beneath the sea
mysterious and strange

but will I turn away from you
in silence and control
or write the shining sky into
a mirror for your soul?

with every single word I write
the lie becomes less true
to shout into the night
"This poem isn't about you!"
