hannah way
Sometimes I wish your
Heart stopped every time
I touched you and that
The only way for you to
Restart was to fold
Your eyelashes around mine
Like origami birds
Fluttering in the wind
And softly dig your fingernails
Into my waist like a shovel
Much overdue for the aching earth
Because then I could at least
Pretend that I am the
Only thing in this world
You need to stay unfrozen.

when Whitman wrote, "I sing the body electric"

I know what he
meant
I know what he
wanted:

to be completely alive every moment
in spite of the inevitable.

we can't cheat death but we can make it
work so hard
that when it does take
us

it will have known a victory just as
perfect as
ours.

i beg for drunk texts like they're diamonds
knowing drunk words
are more valuable than sober
and that later
i'll be high enough to pretend
you sent me them spontaneously
and believe that i'm the one who's truly
on your mind
when it can't even function.
i wish i may, i wish i might, have this wish i wish tonight.
when the devil wants your soul he will do his best
play around in side your mind put it to the test
trying to deceive you with his devil game
try to steal your thoughts make you speak his name
you must your will fight him face to face
chase him from your mind and keep your soul in place

Riot
she always looked so beautiful but she never believed.
if her smile was a word it would be: free.
everyone wanted to be her
and though she could not see
whoever saw her new the meaning of beauty.
but she’d still go home
feeling “unworthy”
because the kids at school said she was “too curvy”.
so she went home everyday
trying to change who she was
all her parents told her was “high school is tough”
the blood in her bathroom now cleaned back to white
she covers her arm
“mom i’m going out tonight”
all she wanted was to forget
she only had one cup
and before you know it
she was wasted as
forgetting everything she knew about life and it’s wonders
getting into the pool some one is pushing her head under
but no one is there
she's alone
and alone she can think
about the beauty that she never had
the beauty that was weak
and if only she had her mirror
she would say
"wow, that's me"
but another day goes by
without her being who she can be
she always looked so beautiful but she never believed.
if her smile was a word it would be: free.
everyone wanted to be her
but now it's too late to see
because the broken glass in her bedroom was the vary thing
that gave her beauty
your beautiful no matter what
