I would
love you to be the one that I see
when I wake up
I would like you to be the cream in my cup of coffee
won't you say that you would too
love it to be so true.

Can't you stay through the night and hold me close and real tight
like they do in old movies
you could be Ginger to my Fred Astaire
with you I'm always floating on air
Oh won't you be the one that I see
won't you wake up with me
tomorrow.

And she says,
why always talk of romance
why don't you sing and dance, like Kelly
and If I stayed through the night
would I look the same sight
tomorrow.

So we went through the motion
dodging the question
that burned on my lips
and when I kissed her goodnight
I made light of the moments we'd spent
but getting home
I burned alone
so I called her up on the phone
and said,
I'd love you to be the one that I see
tomorrow.

when i the you sweetly
sublime of
knees fleeting intensely

kiss inwardly
the entering sound

You
the perhaps exactly
shed a sliver of teeth

by catching skin
gag
upon a sliver
of ***** shyness

and seem feel
the arms by
youth hard

hands

crimped skinny hot
vulnerable teasing
to swallow

it's no coincidence dad autocorrects to sad
or that family autocorrects to dysfunctional nights
spent over-thinking spat out words
that were meant to sting
but not to stay embedded in minds that
just like the ocean
slam against the shorelines of our emotions
pushing us so far out
we have no idea what our words mean
only that we'll regret them
when the sun rises

A lot of machines
are a lot like women
you have to read the manual
and press the right buttons

Machines can have a hissy fit
just won’t work thats it
you’ve pressed the wrong button
or turned the wrong key
today machine will cause misery

But treat them right
tend to their needs
and they’ll perform day and night
machine gives out what you feed

So be a good mechanic
be your machines tonic
bring the oil
for you it will toil

but remember
and keep an eye on when
every machine
needs a service now and then
I would liken you
To a night without stars
Were it not for your eyes.
I would liken you
To a sleep without dreams
Were it not for your songs.

Over and over again it happens:
Work piling up into massive
vertical structures, threatening to
topple over and smother me.
You'd think I'd have learned by now,
but I have not.
Laying naked on the chaise longue
and the artist's taking so long
to get the colours mixed.
I have fixed myself a pose
looking quite good
without wearing any clothes
then Picasso starts to paint.

The lights are strong
I perspire
the artist murmurs
'I'm on fire'

and late so very late Picasso takes a break
and I can stand and stretch
I fetch a cup of water
take one crafty look behind the canvas
and I am slaughtered.
I thought this guy could paint
but that ain't me
he's painted monsters rising from a sea
with blackened eyes
and skin of verdigris.

If this guy could paint by numbers
he wouldn't get past number three.
Look at what he's done to me.
I'm getting dressed and going home.
Tomorrow
I shall have a bone
to pick with him.
