Turn This Car Around
Mike Hauser Oct 2015
Who is in the driver's seat
Satan where you taking me

Heading down further south
Faster than a soul's allowed

Windows down, blowing in
All I feel is mortal sin

Weaving lanes at 95
I am tired of Satan's jive

Is it too late
With what I've found
To try and turn
This car around

When I was young I played it dumb
Sticking out my prideful thumb

That's when he pulled up next to me
Promising to give me all I need

For years now we've been side by side
With me believing all his lie's

Now that I'm coming to my senses
I'm looking for the nearest exit

No longer is this
What I'm all about
Could someone turn
This car around

Couldn't help but love the life
As it was such a pleasure ride

The car was new and shinny red
With delusions of grandeur in my head

Now this ride has turned of course
Into a hearse or maybe worse

Started out the best of times
Now I'm hating Satan's ride

Is it too late
To get out of town
And try and turn
This car around

Is It Jesus
Mike Hauser Jan 2016
When I look in front of me
Is it Jesus that I see

When I open my mouth to talk
Is it Jesus that comes out

Whenever I open up my heart
Do I let Jesus in the door

In light of changing my mind
Is it Jesus that I find

Do I walk the walk
and talk the talk
Out of all that I've got
is it Jesus I want

Out of all of my needs
and all of my wants
Inside of me
is it Jesus I've got

Whenever I take a step
Am I Jesus lead

At the table where I sit
Is Jesus at the head

To truly live this life
Have I handed Jesus the rights

When I give all that I have
Is Jesus all that I have left

Mike Hauser Nov 2015
i met an old beggar
with tin cup in hand
i pulled up some sidewalk
to give a listen in

felt the need to ask him
which way the wind blows
he said yes, was that a clue to
give my tongue a rest

he seemed to me to blinked a lot
i'm thinking now of morse code
as the pigeons gathered round him
like they were in the know

just then a child of twenty
tossed a coin into his can
it landed heads with that he said
that makes a hundred grand

as he tipped his hat and said that's that
pulling out a peppermint
before he popped it in his mouth he looked around
brushing off a speck of lint

he looked at me, said this ones for free
try not to get lost
when ordering chinese take out
make sure it's in a box
with that he winked and then walked off

nothing less than confusing
Mike Hauser Jun 2014
who could have gotten
this far without nothing
if nothing is all that you've got

this much of nothing
is a fur piece from something
when nothing is not a whole lot

who hit the spot
in the middle of  "noth"
and added their on "ing"

bringing to mind
nothing short of its kind
in an effort to do something

if you tried to erase
the vast empty space
would there be anything left at all

writing on the wall
says there's nothing like heeding the call
so perhaps nothing is something after all

~Your Purpose~
Mike Hauser Feb 2017
We keep looking for a purpose
That makes this all seem worth it
A life that is fulfilling
Pray that God is willing

Spending the time high and low
With life's needle to and fro
As we keep up with our mending
Hoping to sew a happy ending

Some folks find along the way
The truth in what some people say
There is no higher purpose
Than that of serving others

It takes the focus off ones self
And puts it on somebody else
With the filling of several needs
As both sides blessings intercede

So give to those in need you find
That have received less in this life
You'll find that it's all worth it
As you find this is your purpose

The Souls Door
Mike Hauser May 2017
The door to your soul
Is it opened or closed
And when is too late
For you to know

Is it the minute before
Or the minute you pass
Might be too late the second
If you need to ask

Is the door thick and tight
Or loose and thin
Not always painted in black and white
All you have let in

Yet with damage done
It's never too late
To pull out your conscience
And fix those mistakes

On the door to your soul
So it'll never close
Given the confidence
To come and go

Me & You
Mike Hauser Apr 2017
Me & You came to this party
Full of vigor, full of life
Ready to take it all head on
Me & You, husband and wife

Me & You are the daily special
With love served on the side
Here or to go we're good with the flow
Me & You together for life

Me & You are willing partners
Me & You both fit the crime
The day we robbed each others heart
Me & You have been doing time

Me & You fit each other
Like a well worn pair of gloves
Summer strong, Winter warm
Me & You covered in love

Me & You are holding steady
To this venture we are on
More rough these days than ready
Me & You in this love song

Me & You do better together
Than we ever could separately
Two love birds of a feather
Flying through this life fancy free
Mike Hauser Apr 2016
I've read the latest wonders
That poured forth from your soul
Your poets beating heart
Has paid the artist toll

I'm always touched by your passion
The very words you pen each day
There is power and compassion
In all you have to say

The heart of a poet
Beats a certain rhythm deep down inside
Bringing meaning to the moment
That others try to hide

With writings that inhale beauty
At the same time exhaling tragedy
You can lift up with one pen stroke
While another knocks down to the knees

There's a rhythmic temperature
That runs both hot and cold
In the heart of a poet
Taking in all of life's high's and lows
Thought it'd be fun to run this again....

Colorful Life
Mike Hauser Jul 2015
Life comes in colors
go ahead, feel free to choose one
Though most have a tendency to bleed
into each other they run

While mixing greens with yellows
gives off certain hues
Orange you the slightest bit curious
what reds and yellows will do

Depends on your wave length
to the colors you choose
Whether it be the
red, green, yellow, or blue

With the stirring of emotions
life's paint in a can
As we spread it about
till there's nothing left
Thanks to Akcendrium for the help with my colored blindness!

Beauty Of The Rhyme
Mike Hauser May 2013
Her life's a turn of pages

A melody in rhyme

Counted out in ages

Here from the start of time

Her world is one of wonder

Light in a darkened cave

Offers up the moment

Gives her soul away

Hidden in the meaning

Smoothness of the line

Gives back all she's taken

The beauty of the rhyme

i once was a child
many moons ago
innocence and wonder
is where i made my home
then into life's fabric
reality was sown
i miss the child
now he's grown

i once was a child
without a care in the world
till the day i found
myself in the world
the only thing keeping me
is gravity holds
while it all spins
out of control

i once was a child
in the hope i'd find
happiness beyond measure
with the treasures in this life
but the days grew longer
then came on the night
many moons ago
when i was a child

Good Feeling Blues
Mike Hauser Mar 2017
Woke up early this morning
The sun shinning in without warning
How's depression to set in
Messing like this with my zen

Birds outside chirping have me worrying
Squirrels playfully hurrying in their scurrying
I have no idea of what to do
With all of these good feeling blues

With the grass green even on my side
There is no need for a changing of the tide
I'm about to waste my day away
With this happy plastered all over my face

How can I be sad or even mad
When I'm loving this and liking that
Humming to the tune that I am *******
Clinging to these good feeling blues

A slice of pie a piece of cake
A good time vibe to start the day
Just as I have often dread
I woke up on the right side of bed

As it is I'm not into this
Too much happiness and bliss tossed into the mix
What in the world am I supposed to do
Smack dab in all of this good feeling blues

Generation Hate
Mike Hauser Apr 2017
Generation X
Who used to could care less
Now have been replaced
With Generation Hate

Those leaning to the left
Have filled their silly heads
With hopelessness and dread
When all is done and said

With so much fear and doubt
That things will all work out
Taking it into their own hands
Meeting up with their own demands

All they know is push and shove
In their pool of had enough
Saying no thank you very much
Putting all blame on dot government

Coming late to the party
At the door they've all been carded
Sadly turned around and left
Not part of the one percent

So they took to revolution
At someone else's choosing
To take and seal the fate

There's nothing harder that I know
Our heavier to pick up
With open mind or tattered glove
Than that of writer's block

It's often found in concrete form
Thick as a brick, never porous
Sometimes best to leave it alone
Till it lifts itself on its own

If you have one I wish you luck
No need to share thank you very much
Because no one dares to even touch
That of your writer's block

Pouring just enough
As I find I must

If light is out shining
chances are that I'm dreaming
Isn't that what dreamers do
during the day
My body is here
but my mind is out wandering
Can't stay in one place
in its runaway

It could be the sun
in its daylight of dawning
Chewing on morsels
that keep my mind entertained
Caves and crevices
in its searching and finding
Where no two places it's been
have been the same

Anywhere that I sit
is not where I'm at
You can tell right away
with eyes set a glaze
Just me and my mind
off most the time
Spending that time
dreaming the day away

I've just finished another masterpiece
I go and hit submit
This shouldn't take very long now
Before the comments come rushing in

Okay...

It's been a couple minutes now
And I haven't gotten one
Is there anybody awake at this time
Can't they see what it is I've done

1) Do you think that they still like me?

2) Do they even know I'm here?!

3) Did I post my poem at the right time?!!

4) Did I make the writing clear?!!!

5) Could the site be on the blink?!!!!

6) Are the worlds computers down?!!!!!

7) Did I miss the second coming?!!!!!!

8) Is there anyone around?!!!!!!!!

         ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Okay...

I'll check it once again
Is this the third or thirtieth time
My mind can not comprehend it
Are all these people blind

Okay...

Now I'm on the check it 30 second cycle
It's a crazy loop I'm spinning in
Pretty sure I wouldn't be here though
If someone would please comment

Everyone is "Doing It"
Mike Hauser Mar 2013
These days it seems everybody's doing it
Not a place you can't go that it can't be seen
From the highest of highs, to the lowest of lows
North, South, East, West, all points in between

Everyone I see must be enjoying it
Otherwise it wouldn't be done
As much as everyone is doing it
You know that it's gotta be fun

Isn't that what it's all about anyways
That while you do it you have a good time
Go ahead and do what you want  with yours
I'll do what I want with mine

Yes, these  days it seems everybody's " doing it

When life's not going right
Guess you could say it's going wrong
Do what it is I always do
Pick up the telephone
Dial my favorite number
They've never steered me wrong
Of course that number is
1-800-Not My Fault

In any situation
At any given time
#1 on my speed dial
Connects me directly to their line
I seem to call it often
Not giving it much thought
My fingers know just where to go
1-800-Not My Fault

Missed your anniversary?
Or the twins Bar Mitzvah?
To avoid all the yelling and crying
Do it out of love
Remember this time around
You won't be doing it for naught
So pick up the telephone
1-800-Not My Fault

Cooking in the kitchen
You set the house on fire
The one time you do laundry
You throw your wife's tight jeans in the dryer
Fired from your job a month ago
For a month you've been hiding that with lies
Just so it is you don't get caught...dial
1-800-Not My Fault

So my friend remember this
If your ever in a jam
Just excuse yourself a moment
Dial as fast as your fingers can
Age it does not matter
Neither being a woman, child, or man
No need to be distraught
Come on now...you know the number
1-800-Not My Fault

How many of you out there if you died today
Dust in the wind, simply blew away
Would have confidence of the after life
How many of you out there, if today you died

How many of you out there could you truly say
Up in Heavens Glory you would have a place
Do you have that confidence in the paths you choose
How many of you out there could speak that lasting truth

How many of you out there are out there
Searching for that something, grasping at thin air
Do you have that confidence in that which you've never seen
How many of you out there know exactly what I mean

When I say...

How many of you out there if you died today
Dust in the wind, simply blew away
Would have the confidence of the after life
How many of you out there, if today you died

~Your Name~
Mike Hauser Jul 2016
One thing in life
That you will find
Above everything else is your name

Passed down freely
From your family
Where generations have all had their say

It's been quite the mix
Of both women and men
Some voices still speak from the grave

Stand up and fight
For what you feel is right
Above everything else is your name

This name you own it
Shined bright or tarnished
It's all in how you handle your day

In what you've been told
Treat it like gold
In this world of come whatever may

With your reputation
People stop, look, and listen
As through life you make your way

So don't let them down
Those gone and those still around
Above everything else is your name
Mike Hauser Jun 2014
I have this friend on the other side of the globe
Says the world just met its end, thought I should know
I've got about eight hours to prepare
Before we're outta here
As she made it perfectly clear
It's the end of the world

She texted this fact before her phone went dead
With less than a day left what else can be said
So I call up my family as well as my friends
Say my goodbyes, make my amends
And if there's any money that they could lend
I'll get it back in a day or two if there's anything left

It's good to have a friend in the future on which to rely
One that's not afraid to say your soon going to die
I figure I've now got about six hours left
When all has been done and all has been said
Time enough to pack one or two bags
Put my head between my legs and kiss my **** goodbye
Hope this rhyming pattern isn't too whack a doodle! I'm really just making this stuff up as I go.....

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Mike Hauser Jan 2015
Daddy somebody shot that man
I heard this eleven year old say
I didn't really understand at the time
I just knew a man was dead

But with the years that followed
I came to learn how much he meant
To this world in its great need
And how well that time was spent

He preached of equality, he preached of peace
As he spoke of man as one
He marched his way down city streets
Facing adversity with the face of love

He was done with all the hatred
That fills so many lives
To him color was a vision
Of equality in his eyes

A life so young, a life cut short
By the wicked in us all
Will you stand with me and follow him
Will you heed his righteous call

To call every man your brother
The way Martin Luther King Jr. did
To keep the vision of this visionary alive
A reality in which all mankind should live
I was that eleven year old boy so many years ago and still remember that moment I heard and told my father the news...
We even visited the tragic site where this great man lost his life that day in Memphis. The thing is he knew his days were numbered but refused to give up on equality for all people...
Happy Birthday my friend, my hero...long live your memory.

The Hand Of Fortune
Mike Hauser Jun 2022
Could things be any easier
This life born on a breeze
With the wind to my back there’s nothing I lack
As the hand of fortune guides me

Not a single step have I stumbled
With every path straight on the way
Nary a **** this side of the street
Come what will, come what may

Every ship on my sea is smooth sailing
Every mast that I raise flying high
Every move that I make is a piece of cake
Taking this life for a ride

Yes I think this is a keeper
This life I have born on a breeze
No need to ask with nothing I lack
As the hand of fortune guides me

What will we tell our children
About the what is that is no more
The air that we breath that we can actually see
Standing in a puddle that's acid cured

We've stepped out of our boundaries
In self righteousness we have grown
Trampling on this sacred ground
Crossing the line of the unknown

No use in crying a ***** river
When the flood gates have been broken
Drowning in the very sorrow
Of what's been left unspoken

With the world now at our mercy
What is there left for us to show
Where the innocence that we once had
Left these parts long ago

So again what will we tell our children
About the what was that is no more
How do we explain that we're to blame
For the life they can't enjoy

"Don't Go There Again"
Mike Hauser Feb 2016
On this road there's many paths
As many rights as there are lefts
With street names like Wandering Day
And Restless Nights along the way
How many times has this vagabond been
On the road of "Don't Go There Again"

There's an empty house on the cul-de-sac
With people in but they're without
Where there never seems to be enough
Welcome to new America
Knock if you like, you're welcome in
Into the house of "Don't Go There Again"

With youth not like back in the day
Innocence packed up tight and shipped away
A crazy attitude to life's demands
How many told they could but find they can't
What's in is out, what's out is in
As we fall in line with "Don't Go There Again"

Your head spins round, completely numb
With your mind being filled with daily junk
You order some sanity on the side
Would you like to up the size
In the drive through line you pull ahead
As they hand you the bag of "Don't Go There Again"

Come in open handed

You can swoon to the moon
Or reach for the stars

You can take all you're given for granted
Count all your blessings in place
But if it's peace that you seek you'll never reap
Until you see love show its face

You can calculate, count
Turn inside out
Breath in the fresh morning air

You can cry you can laugh
Over what little is left
When after all it's only you that cares

You can take this and that all for granted
Lay all your blessings face up
But if it's peace that you seek you'll never reap
Until you see the face of love

The Christmas Tree
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
Wait a minute, is it already Christmas again
Seems I just took down the lights and the tree
Is there no rest for the downtrodden and weary
This season sometimes takes the Merry Gentleman out of me

So I load up the sleigh with the dog and the kids
The old beat up station wagon I drive
On the hunt for this years perfect tree
We'll be lucky if we make it back home alive

As we jingle all the way to the local tree farm
Six kids and a dog singing at the top of their lungs
With only twelve days left before Christmas
My **, **, **, is already long gone

Picking the best tree out within our budget
My wife says Charlie Brown would be proud
I ask smarty pants Mrs. Santa what she meant by that
She'd rather not say with the little elves around

Before an argument even ensues
I've lost the battle before I hit the front line
You wonder how I'm so confident of that
The same thing happened last year at this time

As I struggle to get the tree off the roof of my jalopy
While Jack the dog in the frost is nipping at my toes
I fall to the ground with visions of sugar plums dancing in my head
Waking up to the dogs frozen tongue stuck up my nose

Finally with the tree set up in the front parlor
I notice it leans bad to one side
Taking my chainsaw to alleviate the problem
The gas fumes **** my kids parakeet out right

With Hobby Lobby open late for the holidays
I was able to purchase the product I need
Working late into the wee morning hours
I did a good job shellacking the parakeet

I'm not sure that my kids even noticed
Or brought up the question what for
But they sure like the shinny new ornament
Hanging next to the hamster that disappeared the year before

Well, I survived another preparing for Christmas
As subconsciously I'm being led
To wrap myself in last years present "The Snuggie"
And dream of those sugar plums dancing in my head

Two Minds

I feel there's two minds
That reside in my head
One on the right
One on the left

What I desperately need
Both minds to do
Is focus on knowledge
Center on truth

These two separate minds
That mull in my head
One reasons slow
The other thinks fast

What I'm hoping to find
With this state of mind
That they'll both work together
In double time

Pulling as one
Easily done
Hugging it out
In my cranium

If they only would
Bend to my will
Until that day
They lay perfectly still

I'm having trouble with
The voices in my head
While I speak simple english
They speak fluent french
So I never really know
Just what is being said
Which makes it hard to understand
The voices in my head

I'm never really sure
Exactly what to say
Did I arrive here early
Or am I much to late
Either way I hate to make
The voices sit and wait
While I pull out my French-English Dictionary
And flip through every page

So now every Tuesday
Since this Tuesday last
I have been preparing
By taking a French class
So I'll be at the ready
To give an answer back
In case the voices in my head
Continue speaking French

*She's So Beatlesque*
Mike Hauser Mar 2013
She came in through the bathroom window
Because it was something that Paul once said
She changed her name to Lucy, in search of diamonds
But the night sky was way above her head

There is something in the way she moves
Here, There, and Everywhere
She said, She said, Hello Goodbye too many times
On the day I saw her standing there

She's so Beatlesque in the way that she acts
I've got a feeling a day in the life
Of this very extraordinary woman
Would be quite the ticket to ride

I have so often told this woman
Please don't let me down
She says right back to me ever so sweetly
We can work it out

She has the answers to all of life's problems
All you need is love
I ask for an explanation
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da

She's so Beatlesque in the way that she acts
I've got a feeling a day in the life
Of this very extraordinary woman
Would be quite the ticket to ride
Almost every line is the title to a Beatles song...for you younger generations information...

Part Time Jesus
Mike Hauser Mar 2019
You keep banking on the blessing
As you make your way
Through the blessed assurance
You're hoping for each day

You stop short in your wonder
As you wonder this
Do your hip boots have a hole
Knee deep in your sin

You love you some Jesus
But only part of time
You take the call from fall for it all
Living by dim light

Moving to the motions
Of the every day to day
Seasick on the ocean
Another clueless castaway

Bobbing to the concept
Of the sink or swim
Up and down with flailing arms
You go down time and again

Battles are a burden
Thrown wide in this life
That wouldn't be such a worry
If you didn't love Jesus part of the time

Special occasions you're saving
Him in a shiny box
Occasionally opening up
When you pray for luck

Still, you're in no hurry
You feel time is on your side
As you hustle in your bustle
He barely comes to mind

Taking your time, you're feeling fine
In the wasting of your dime
You love you some Jesus
But only part of the time

they know...
Mike Hauser Dec 2015
they know when you come
they know where you go
they know when you're high
and feeling low
they know what is fast
as they take it slow
all you need do is ask
they'll tell you they know

they know where you've been
they know cause they've seen
they know at the moment
you pick up to leave
if you are young
or if you are old
without being told
they know

they know all your wants
they know all your needs
they know what they'll have
you to believe
you can pretend to hide
but wherever you go
it can't be denied
they know
conspiracy theory?  maybe...

Oxana
Mike Hauser May 2017
There's a knowing to her glow
A twinkle in her eye
A warmth that draws you in
To the beauty of her smile

Her soft and tender heart
Is open for display
Has you always wanting more
Of the love she gives away

She's the sweetness in the essence
Perfection in the sum
Being all of this and more
The beauty of Oxana
I love the friendships I've formed on HP, I met this sweet ******* here from the Ukraine a couple years ago and wrote her this.

The Shuffle
Mike Hauser May 2014
How easily we get lost in the shuffle
Losing sight of the friends that we've made
New ones come along filling the void
Of the friends that we had yesterday

Is it the fact we're all way to busy
Or the society that doesn't much care
One way or the other we leave one another
When we most need someone standing here

Have we created disposable relationships
Made them out to throw them away
If we toss in the trash what little is left
When it's our turn will we be saved

How easily we get lost in the shuffle
Losing sight of the friends that we've made
New ones come along filling the void
Of the friends that we had yesterday

You Will Always Be My Girl
Mike Hauser Jul 2018
Me and you without a clue
Of half the things that we'll go through
From early morn till late at night
Side by side through this life
Riding high this tilt-a-whirl
You will always be my girl

Up and down, in and out
Both of us squarely spinning round
Clearly not a piece of cake
Making due with the deserts we make
A many faceted diamond, well rounded pearl
I'm so blessed that you're my girl

Grooming all we know with a fine tooth comb
Then placing a bow on our happy home
It's our belief that sets us free
And I believe in you and me
Whatever goes down in this crazy world
You will always be my girl

This Girl
Mike Hauser Oct 2014
This girl of my dreams
doesn't have to be
some beauty queen
though she is to me

This girl in my sights
has the notion and drive
to satisfy
me the way I like

This girl that I have
laughs when I laugh
cries when I'm sad
loves me where I'm at

This girl that I see
fills my every need
shares my history
is the one for me

"It"
Mike Hauser Aug 2016
I'm getting "It" together
Whatever "It" might be
I'm sitting down and putting "It" now
At the top of my list of needs

Getting round to "It"
Getting "It" done
"It" will be my top priority
With a bullet #1

"It" will be my focus
"It" will be my front page news
Although "It" might have its up's and down's
"It" still I will not lose

So step outside if you ain't ready Clyde
This might hurt a bit
Being the part in life where you don't think twice
Because this my friend is "It"

The Only Choice
Mike Hauser Nov 2015
If I had the right to choose

What I would and wouldn't do

What I would do, I'd do with you

Forever by my side

Then again in the reverse

What I wouldn't do of course

Is make loves fabric tattered and torn

With you as my wife

In Our Every Day to Day
Mike Hauser Sep 2024
This pain
In our lives makes its way
To stand up and have its say
In our every day to day

We complain
In conversations made
More often as of late
From the things we create

Where hate
Finds a way to take away
Love in its state of grace
In our every day to day

We maintain
That it's going to be okay
Justifying things, we do and say
Consequences never weighed

We say
We are ready for a change
But through it all we stay the same
In our every day to day

At this rate
If we remain this way, unchanged
There will be nothing left to save
I only hope we're not too late

can i go with you
next time you howl at the moon
to gently hold your hand

giving the comfort you need
as you plead insanity
that much closer to the edge
