This City
Mike Hauser Sep 2014
This City beats like a fallen dream

Where innocence gets lost between

The sidewalk cracks on the walk back

From nevermore to where your at

This City brings about a change

From rusty cars of subway trains

From the time before to once again

This City beats like a fallen dream

~The making of a Child~
Mike Hauser Feb 2017
Let's make a child
From the both of us
One that will exhibit
The very best of our love

One that will grow strong
In the way of right and never wrong
A child that will play out in perfect harmony
The melody to our love song

Let's make a child
That we can call our very own
To always love and cherish
To forever have and to hold

One that will be a blessing
From the folly of youth to the wisdom of old
A child that will stand strong
In the very image of God

Let's make a child
That will fill up our world
A child for all ages
Strong in stature and confidant sure

One that brings out a smile
Be it boy or be it girl
Let's make a child
That will fill up our world

Leave My Love
Mike Hauser Dec 2015
You can take away my box of memories
Have the heart that beats inside of me
Keep the house we always called a home
Leave me here standing on my own

Take away my reasoning to smile
Watch me walk the long and lonely mile
Use the tinder part for show & tell
Don't forget to mention how it felt

Hopefully all of this will be enough
All I ask is that you leave behind my love

You can have back all the time that we both spent
Everyday and everything it meant
Give back all the thorns, toss out the rose
Turn the open sign around to closed

Keep the list of promises I made
In case you chance upon a raining day
Take away the look that made me smile
At the corner edge of the here and now

Hopefully all of this will be enough
All I ask is that you leave behind my love

A Case Of Love
Mike Hauser Aug 2016
I stammer and I stutter
Every time I try and talk
Can't seem to concentrate
As all my thoughts get lost
Every thing slips out my hands
Through these sweaty palms

Don't know about you
But I think I'm coming down with a case of love

The center of my chest is aching
With it beating like a drum
There is no escaping
I don't dare try turn and run
Although my heart is racing
As you've fired the starting gun

Not sure about you
But I think I'm coming down with a case of love

Could someone take my temperature
Does my forehead feel warm
As my knees are shaking
Anticipating what's to come
No if's, and's, or but's about it
I know that you're the one

This may sound crazy
But I think I'm coming down with a case of love

Killing your Memory
Mike Hauser Apr 2015
One day I'm sure they will find
And throw on me the charge of guilty
As it is that I keep on trying
To **** off your precious memory

This I have to do on my own
I don't dare bring along an accomplice
After all you know what they say
About loose lips and the sinking of ships

The more people I get involved
The more your memory will linger
And if the cost were to be counted
I'm sure I'd be the one to suffer

Knowing one of the places that it haunts
Is on the edge of my mind
I'm going there after work tonight
And I'll be carrying a knife

Though I'll try and make it quick
I'm sure that it won't be painless
Since your memory has been here for years
Right at the top of my hit list

I'm pretty sure that I'll be arrested
Packed up and sent off to the prison
But it'll be worth the sentence of life
If from my mind your memory is missing

the troubled one
Mike Hauser Feb 2015
your mom and dad bought you love
cause they had so little time
they could afford to spend on you
or they would have otherwise

they knew you were a loner
but did not understand
how just a few short years down the road
you'd play out a losing hand

only in passing did they think of you
as the troubled one
never once in questioning
why you needed all those guns

never really talked about
never gave too much away
the only voices we now hear
are those from beyond the grave

the hopeless victims in your path
wrong place, wrong time
as you shoved them to the other side
cut down in the prime of life

for crazy is as crazy does
and crazy as they say
was the day you cracked the lid
and let crazy have it's way

the road normally traveled
burned the bottom of your soles
so you took a path different from the rest
the one of lost control

the butcher, the banker, the candle stick maker
you feel all did you wrong
turning childhood rhymes and memories
into a wicked song

you say that we'll remember you
for many years to come
the only memory that you left with us
is of the troubled one

side note:
**your not the only one out there
just the latest to act it out
more to follow later
of that there is no doubt

She's as sick of me
As I am sick of her
And of this disease
I hope there is no cure

She is all I need
Inside of my world
Never has there been a doubt
That I love this girl

In fact I am so sick
It brought me to my knees
Where it is that I proposed
Asking her hand please

Pledging her my love
From that moment out
Being this love sick
Is nothing to sneeze about

Yes her love is
What I am sick with
Hoping that I never
Do get over this

With a temperature
As high as 102
I've got myself a hardened case
The best of the love flu

I'm as sick of her
As she is sick of me
Not looking for the cure

Killing Time

They should put me on death row
As I'm killing time with Crossbow
I took it's highs along with it's lows
And shot it full of arrows

I'm killing time slice by slice
With the carving end of a Butchers knife
Cutting it into bite size bites
Against the grain left to right

I'm shooting through time with both barrels
Slick from the hip straight with the narrow
Shattering bone, splattering marrow
Where all that is left of time is mere shadow

I'm killing time slowly with poison
Soon to be only a has been
Not giving time any kind of choice in
How it is I'm doing time in

Pat
Have you ever had said thought in your head
About death, well I'm sure you will now
Just spoke with a friend given 3 months to live
Guess you could say she's on her way out

They say her tickers no longer tocking
To put it in terms mildly
And when the ticker stops in its mid tock
That's the moment that she'll be leaving

She's fine with this current chain of events
Says death knows where we all live
There's no way in the world of cheating him
Who are you trying to kid

If you're wondering how anyone can be so alive
Being served up deaths last meal
What we have here Pat makes very clear
Is all in Gods time and will

Believe it or not there's not a whole lot
In life or death that she can do
That she hasn't already done in giving it all to the Son
Who makes all things brand new

So before it is you chat up death
My friend I beg of you
With what little time you have left do like my friend Pat
And accept Jesus as the truth
Pat has such a great attitude I wrote this while mowing her yard... went back inside and read it to her. I'm honored she loves it.

Play For Me... A Melody
Mike Hauser Apr 2018
Play for me a melody
Something in a far off tune
One that brings the sounds together
The way it's meant to do

A symphony to fill the need
Of those who have lost sight
As woodwinds fill the air we breath
Setting music into flight

Play for me a rhapsody
One that takes me to cloud nine
Swoon me into ecstasy
As euphoria waits in line

With a hand held over my warming heart
As it flutters to the beat
Play for me a melody
That is ever so soft and sweet

I went out sailing on Sandwich Sea
With my motley crew of make beliefs
In a boat of pumpernickel with masts of cheese
Mustarding our courage  in a spreadable breeze

We watched peanut butter jelly fish swimming by
Along with a school of tuna fish on rye
But it was the salmon egg salad that caught my eye
When a storm of salt and pepper rained from the sky

Waves  of mayonnaise tossed us to and fro
Thinking we might sink in our breaded boat
Saved by a 12 inch sub that surfaced on that note
Helping the boys and me to stay afloat

As they lettuce out of danger and set us free
No one spreading joy was happier than me
With my motley crew of misfit make beliefs
Sailing the high cheese out on Sandwich Sea

Why yes, God does loves you
Has from the very beginning
After all he's the author of life
Knows how your book will read and end

He's been around from chapter one
Following along your story line
Of course along with you he's written a few chapters too
Knew at the time you wouldn't mind

But he's only the Holy Ghost writer
As he's handed you reign of the pen
Where your free to jot down your own ideas
Whether or not they will include him

Though he's told you how your book can prosper
#1 on the best sellers list
He's written the manual, we call it the Bible
You should add it to your reading list

Then as you continue your life's novel
Make sure this time that you do
In the rest of the chapters that follow
Include why yes, God does loves you

And magical mountains
All the fantastical tales

With Kings and Queens
That rule by decree
That everyone's equal

Where love above all

She is beauty, she is grace

She is the wonder of the day

She is whispered on the wind

Spoken highly of by men

The very talk of the town

She is the thought that comes around

She is the hope in all of this

She's at the top of every list

She is the dream you can't escape

Although you don't look for a way

She is the light to a man's path

Showing where it is all at

She's the cause and the effect

Over everything there is

After all is done and said

She is all that there is left

She is the fulfillment to man's need

All the best that's gone to seed

Out of all of this and that

I know that you're not a ghost
As you live in another part of the world
I often wonder why you keep haunting me

Since our time's way over and done
That which long ago we had begun
Why do you continue to float through my memories

Like a poltergeist
That lives inside my mind
Mischievous the way in which you sneak

Yet you have been in there so long
Not sure that I want you gone
There's a certain comfort in that basic need

So whether or not you are a ghost
And whether or not you need a host
Feel free to keep on haunting me

My Mom and Dad done told me
Sister Sally said the same
This poetry writing day and night
Is getting out of hand

I'm always thinking of a new rhyme
It is that I can use
And when it comes to poetry
That's all I want to do

These days I'm getting nothing done
With my chores around the farm
When this poetry all got started
I didn't see any harm

Now the chickens are in the pasture
The cows are in the coup
Guess it was bound to happen
When you mix poetry in the stew

My teachers they done told me
The guidance counselor told me too
I'll never get anywhere in life
If poetry is all I want to do

Now I no longer do my homework
And I no longer go to school
No need for Arithmetic or History
When all I want is poetry

Cause that's what it is I'm good at
Pretty much that and nothing else
Just give me pen and paper
And poetry is what comes out

So as I go about my business
Working the rhythm into the rhyme
Leave me and my poetry be
Can't you see we're doing just fine

Half a Heart
Mike Hauser Mar 2016
It's been said of her, she's heartless in nature
There's nothing that beats inside her chest
But something like that works two fold
Where most don't take the time to know
What could be the reason for this

With so many hurts it's hard to recover
The way love bites it's pain she finds
She's given away so much of it
That there is hardly any left
It's not like her heart she's trying to hide

She doesn't come with a load of questions
Just where's true love and why's it take so long
Hidden out amongst the weeds
Often makes love hard to see
Where you can go and pick your own

No, it's not like she has no heart at all
She's just afraid to give the rest away
As life imitates art through the bitter parts
She'll draw it out with only half a heart
Living come what may from day to day

Girl of my Dreams
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
Fresh shower and a shave
First one I've had in days
Clean pressed jammies, and new sheets
Off to meet the girl of my dreams

I pull down tight on the shades
Hoping against hope I'm not running late
We get together most Saturday nights
When I pull up the covers and shut out the lights

I often wonder where we'll go
As neither of us ever really knows
Where the mind travels in its comatose state
Or where dream girls like to go on dates

We might end up at some fancy dance
Or a beach somewhere in the South of France
It all depends on her or is that depends on me
When I'm out cold with the girl of my dreams

Sometimes I play her hero well
But not that super if the truth I must tell
Slowing moving as if in a dream
Most Saturday nights in my sleep

Over time she has never changed
In fact even I look pretty much the same
Whenever we have a chance to meet
Out on a date with the girl of my dreams

A Mess Of Poetry
Mike Hauser Aug 2018
I've come to the conclusion
That my life's a wreak
Poetry strewn all about
My house the biggest mess

So here I am in the middle of the den
In a pile of poetry on the floor
A desperate man with phone in hand
Since I can't seem to find the door

I call up a Psychic
I call up my Shrink
I call up the local Priest
To ask them what they think

They say there is no hope for me
Through the static on the phone
Right before they all hang up
I hear...boy you're too far gone

So I grab a hold my bootstraps
Pick my own self up
Determined to have this problem licked
With prayers and major luck

Starting in on this poetic clean
One thing that I found
I wrote on just about anything
That I had laying around

There was poetry on party napkins
On Chinese take out meals
Tiny poetry on tiny matchbooks
Even on banana peals

Poetry on the chandelier
Poetry on my cat Floss
Poetry on ***** dishes
I wrote with spaghetti sauce

Poetry on the mirrors
Smiling back at me
Poetry on Seinfeld
Across my T.V. screen

Poetry on the kitchen tile
That's never seen a mop
On the doors going in and out
And places I dare not look

I started cramming it all in boxes
Lining them up and down the halls
Soon had them in every room
3 feet deep and 8 feet tall

I made 15 trips to storage
The biggest one that I could find
Feeling now it's nice and safe
All packed tight, warm and dry

When it all was over
Feeling relief from that major chore
Set down in my den, took out my pen
And started writing more...

Out in the dark, out in the cold
You raise concerns but no one believes you
In this world of lost condemned to hell souls

As leaders go these are mostly see through
Emperor's without their clothes
What's good for the goose is not for you dude
So sit down, shut your mouth and do as you're told

What do you do when your country lies to you
Do you like a cheap suit fold
In the back of the rack where they place you
Forgetting you're there until money is owed

Well good luck with that cause here's news for you
We've seen the truth and now we know
So sit down, shut your mouth we're through with you dude
We're Americans here and we can't be owned

We should go ahead and try you and me

Take a minute if you must to think about it
Then maybe you'll see that it's best
Like me you'll see you'll never doubt it
Then maybe your maybe, maybe yes

I'm thinking maybe if that really happened
If my dreams really did come true
Then maybe happiness would be ours forever
The perfect couple just me and you

So think about it, what all you'll be missing
Then maybe you'll come to the conclusion that's best
Read my lips but do it with kissing
Then maybe your maybe, maybe yes

Mike Hauser Apr 2014
I'm on my phone more often than not
Checking my status and all the updates I've got
There's always something there interesting to see
When I finally look up, my family's staring at me

My youngest says Dad, let's play a game
If you could decide, what would be your phones name
I have no clue, do you...she said of course
I've got the perfect name, let's call it divorce...
Thanks to my lovely daughter Sarah for this gem

~Parental Wisdom~
Mike Hauser Apr 2015
I should have taken Mom's advice
Dad's, I should have taken twice
Pretty certain if I had
I wouldn't now be in this mess

I should have listened carefully
To the instructions given me
I'm quite sure that over time
Other results I would find

They've been through all of this before
Those days of theirs, those days of yore
With nothing new under the sun
By Mom and Dad it has been done

Perhaps not quite the way I have
I'd hate to think that of Mom and Dad
But then one day my kids will see
They'd hate to think the same of me

The old and wise that are in our lives
Are not put here for our demise
They're here to help and lift us up
Even at times to be our crutch

For you some day will do the same
Give advice in this life's game
Passing on your lessons learned
An honor badge that you've well earned

So listen very carefully to
All instruction given you
Hide it in your heart and hide it well
So one day when asked you too can tell

"Dear child please take my advice
If need be then take it twice
Pretty certain if you do
This life will be less a mess for you"

mornings flame
Mike Hauser Aug 2015
morning is burning

in its own flame

the keeper of nothing

but the giveaway

in morning light

shadows are long

morning is burning

but that is not all

morning is turning

in on itself

feeling the loner

if nothing else

hold it just right

before the giveaway

as morning is turning

in its own flame

Laugh lines
Mike Hauser Dec 2017
All these wrinkles on my face
Just in case you haven't guessed
Are laugh lines that I've placed there
So you don't see the many tears

Cause if I didn't laugh I'd cry
At the signs of the times
That's why you find these tears I hide
Behind all of these laugh lines

cold
Mike Hauser Sep 2016
what if the cold wrote a poem
would we shiver at the sound
if it was read out loud

would we feel we belong
in the rhyme of the cold
if we heard it while alone

In The Papers
Mike Hauser Jul 2017
I'm fixing to do something
That I shouldn't oughta
But let me say mister
These are desperate times

Can anyone blame me
For feeding my family
When you fight for survival
Is it considered a crime

When you hold up a store
That sells the devils firewater
Would that be a sin
In the good Lords eyes

Cause that's what I'm bout to do
You can read it in the papers
I just hope it don't say there
A desperate man died

And that he was too young
When the clerk with the shotgun
Without a question
Ended his life

With words from his family
How the kids miss their daddy
Story continued and ending

Love, Hope, and Dreams
Mike Hauser Mar 2013
Three sisters, Love, Hope, and Dreams
Growing up always felt the need
To hold each others hands wherever they went
That way Love would not lose Hope and Hope would not lose Dreams

You know it was bound to happen
The girls grew up and didn't see each other that much
Love and Hope stayed in semi contact
But with Dreams both of them lost touch

It seems sister Dreams couldn't stay
So one day Dreams just up and flew away
Leaving Love and Hope all alone
With an empty void since Dreams has been gone
