~Radio Mimes~
Mike Hauser Jun 2013
My radio just went silent
Another episode of mimes
Most of them are reruns
That they play from time to time

I'm pretty sure I've heard this one
Where they're in that tiny box
Not sure if they're trying to get in or out
Either way I wish them luck

I don't know how they do it
Mimes on the radio
Oh listen, it's the pretend to fly off with the umbrella routine
Truly a favorite of them all

You can pick them up on several stations
Though I'm partial to AM59
Out in the middle of nowhere in a rain storm
Seems to me to be the best of times

So if you find yourself in radio silence
Don't reach to change the channel out right
Just sit back and enjoy
The finest in Radio Mime

WAIT A MINUTE...THIS IS CRAZY
Is that three mimes that I don't hear
Preforming the famous Zambolini Mime Trick
In which two mimes died last year

I don't think that I can listen
The silence is killing me
Don't they know what they're attempting
Is pure insanity

Someone tell me when it's over
It can't take the suspense, this heart of mine
For there is nothing more exciting
Than an afternoon of radio mimes
I'd like to thank *martin* for this great idea...
Did I say great? Well at least for the idea...

Standing on a busy street corner
When a limo pulls up next to me
Out pops the head of Johnny Depp
(Not the body mind you, just the head)
And asks where's the nearest Dairy Queen

Not one to miss an opportunity
I blurted out I'll show you the way
So that's how the head of "The Depp" and I
Spent time together that day

In his limo he had his makeup artist
Which seemed a bit odd to me
Everywhere the head of Johnny went
It had to dress up for the scene

Since Johnny was drooling a Dilly
First stop Dairy Queen
With Johnny's head as the Mad Hatter under my arm
It was a very strange scene indeed

With me holding onto the Dilly's
And Johnny's head on the counter up front
Mr. Depp was the King at the Queen that day
Though his ice cream licking habit did turn some peoples lunch

Later on passing a Piggly Wiggly
Johnny's head said what's up with that
Told him it's nothing more than a grocery store
His reply was let's give it a crack

So undergoing more of his makeup
And in the blink of an eye
I have the head of Jack Sparrow
In the grocery cart with a bag of Funions by his side

Yes, Johnny Depp's head loves Funions
Which to me really ranks the breath
But who am I to tell a Big Time Movie Star that
I'm not the keeper of his head

He even dressed as Edward Scissorhands
Which didn't turn out quite right
Since Johnny's head has no hands
To hold the famous Scissorhand knives

That day we went to so many places
With every stop a new disguise
I guess for entertainment you do what you can
When all that's left is your head and some of your mind

Whelp, that's about it on this days adventures
Not a whole lot more to be said
As I stood on the street corner waving bye, bye
To the limo pulling off into the sunset, along with the head of Johnny Depp

The Floorboard Of My Car
Mike Hauser Jan 2014
A look at the floorboard of my car
Gives a glimpse into my life
All the trash that's scattered about
Necessities to survive?

An old McDonald's bag spilling it's contents
I wonder if those fries are still any good
With nary a doubt I pop them into my mouth
Hey...don't judge me, you know some of you would

There's candy, bubblegum, fortune cookie wrappers
It's all a pretty even mix
What's this? Half a granola bar?
That day I must have been on a health kick

A fist full of bank statements...withdraw, withdraw, withdraw
Without a single deposit...what am I daft?!
Oh wait a minute, here we go
Overdraft, overdraft, overdraft

I swear I hear something moving
From underneath the passenger seat
Maybe tonight I'll leave the door open
Hoping against hope it'll set itself free

The floorboard  of a car speaks much of a man
And this man is pretty much a slob
Guess you could say it's a part of my life
And you ladies know that me being a man...it's also part of my job

journey of two
Mike Hauser Nov 2015
how long has it been that we both have been here
it's so hard to tell with each day anew
i reach out my hand and in yours it lands
with the path that we choose being the journey of two

all that we have is new to the making
taking love out of bounds and letting it loose
where it shares in the treat of both our heart beats
on the path that we choose being the journey of two

lighting a lantern to place in-between us
holding on tight as our shadows move
though we never strayed far from who love says we are
with the path that we choose being the journey of two

Life's Stream
Mike Hauser Feb 2014
I dip my toes in to check the temperature
Of life's running  stream
Sometimes it's hot, sometimes it's cold
Sometimes in between

I struggle at times to keep my balance
Where I don't fall in and get swept away
That seems to be a challenge
I'm faced with day to day

While I see some out there cliff diving
And others riding massive waves
Most of the time I watch from the shore
Where I can play it safe

That's not to say that I myself don't take
Time out for a swim
Though careful where I go cause you never know
So I mostly stick to the shallow end

individual tattoos
Mike Hauser Apr 2015
the problem with me and you
is that our tattoos
look like their tattoos
and their tattoos do
look like ours too
which keeps us all a bit confused

we were individuals when we started this
rebel rousers, outskirt kids
making a statement with how we lived
now the statement is
look at this
we now look like all the other kids

cause his tattoo and her tattoo
look like mine and your tattoo
i might just get my tattoo removed
and go back to before i knew
you don't need a tattoo
to be an individual too

The Watch
Mike Hauser Jun 2017
I have this watch with no hands on it
So it never has to quit
As I've found out when it comes to life
That time is irrelevant

And that's what my watch reminds me of
With my reflection in its face
That all the time in the world
Is not enough if you don't live today

I check my watch quite frequently
And the only one I see
Is the only one of my concern
And that my friend is me

I'm now in the business selling watches
With reflections but no hands
To help those in need to realize
There is no time for demands

Take all the time that you like
This watch is custom made
With no hands but the reflection
To remind today's the day

Some months ago a partnership was initiated
With our individual verbiages for you being instigated
All care is taken when composing as a duet
As we aspire to put upon the paper our appealing minuet

While she takes the high road and I take the low
We often meet in the middle of the poetic flow
Bringing together both of our wits
More often a hit than ever a miss

Keeping on track calls for a unified side
To stray from this course our poem would be a disjointed ride
Every now and again we check what's been noted for the crew
As we'd not be satisfied with a misconstrued brew

With topics covered to numerous to mention
All of them our potted clay of invention
We can celebrate what we've placed in our cooking pan
Even though our muse didn't give out her recipe plan

So with a little of this and a whole lot of that
We mix it together for the perfect batch
There's no need to over cook as it's already done
The way that we look at it as all in great fun

Being too serious isn't of our writing tag
We just stow wit and wisdom into a bag
If by fortune we get the arrangement this side of right
Our vocabulary combo may be of your delight

With the poem to our taste we raise our glass high
Using just the right words just the way that we like
No need to ferment this tender bouquet
We send it right out with the feeling it's perfectly aged
This is just another in a long line of poems that Elizabeth and I have composed...I'm thinking we fit together pretty well!

This Poem Wrote Itself
Mike Hauser Oct 2013
This poem got up and wrote itself
While I was fast asleep
This poem soon enough found out
It had no need for me

Guess it felt it needed to get
A few things off its chest
Wandering around the halls of poetry
While I was snoring in my bed

This poem made its planned escape
From the clutches of my mind
With a basic need that it must feed
On the artistry of rhyme

Taking full advantage of
My unconsciousness
As I lay here dreaming
In my nightly world of bliss

Yes, this poem wrote itself
Without the benefit of me
Proving it can do a better job
When I am sound asleep

History Repeating...
Mike Hauser Mar 2017
From the start of this
To the very end
Swimming in ignorance
We'll do it all again

Sands from the hour glass
Keep on seeping
As we watch history
Repeating...

Under the baking sun
Nothing has ever changed
What's being done's been done
The path remains the same

As the bell loudly tolls
Time is fleeting
Watching history
Repeating...

Have there been lessons learned
I'm thinking not this turn
Getting what's deserved
In everything we earn

We still remain the same
In our hearts beating
As we watch history
Repeating...
Mike Hauser Oct 2013
I'm the caretaker of a lonely lighthouse
On the shore of a small New England town
Not much here has ever happened
That is until Stephen came around

For weeks now I've been haunted
By the ghost of Stephen King
I'm quite sure that he's still alive
Which makes this very strange indeed

At first he wasn't doing much
Rattled chains, walked through walls like any ole ghost
Then Stephen discovered the roaming light
That I shine up and down the coast

Now his favorite pass time every night
Until the break of dawn
Is to make shadow puppets in the light
I don't have the nerve to tell his ghost it's wrong

Yes, Stephen King loves his shadow puppets
On the jagged rocks below displayed
Butterflies and puppy dogs
Is Stephen's ghosts forte

But all the puppy dogs have monster heads
And the butterflies giant bat wings
I guess you just can't help yourself
When your the Ghost of Stephen King

This lighthouse is no longer lonely
Since Stephen King's ghost did arrive
I'm still not sure how he does it
Cause I'm quite sure Stephen King is still alive

Can I let you in on a little something
That to me has been wrong way rubbing
While some folk might think it's nothing
Like kissing on a second cousin

But something about this don't seem right
Now I ain't trying to start no fight
All depends on your appetite
On what you do and do not like

But me, I don't like all the complaining
Especially from those misbehaving
Gets my head all into aching
Which happens a lot these days lately

They expect us all to follow along
But what if we don't dance to that song
Can you tell me what about that is wrong
Aren't we all individuals

I guess they expect you to go with the crowd
Not to think or do by yourself
Be a good little sheeple now
Tell you when and where to bow down

Have they ever thought of discussing
In a calm voice without the cussing
Maybe then we'd all learn something
Cause all of this whining is unbecoming

That's about all I gotta say
I'm tired of being rubbed the wrong way
To me, this ain't okay
Oh and by the way...have a nice day

God Don't Make Ugly Girls
Mike Hauser Nov 2014
From the very moment that all of this started
The skies opened up the Red sea it parted
God took a rib from out of the man
And that is when all of the fun began

God don't make ugly girls
From beauty without to beauty within
God don't make ugly girls
And it's been that way from the beginning

He certainly had it right with Cleopatra
A beauty Queen, Royalty flattered
As men were fighting to win over her love
God in His wisdom from up above

Knows that he don't make ugly girls
From beauty within to beauty without
God don't make ugly girls
With that there is never a doubt

Mother Teresa in all of her glory
Did what was asked of the Father in her selfless story
Shinning a light for all to see
Giving her all for downtrodden humanity

Cause God don't make ugly girls
Never even tried it out cause he doesn't know how
God don't make ugly girls
From their beauty within to their beauty without

Showing throughout history
The beauty of woman is here to please
Truly a beauty to behold
From the glamour of young to the wrinkle of old

God don't make ugly girls
The beauty within you can't do without
God don't make ugly girls
And that my friend is what I'm talking about

When Will I Ever Grow Up
Mike Hauser Aug 2013
When will I ever grow up...

Says the innocence of the child
I want to experience all there is in life
And I want to experience it now

When will I ever grow up...

Says the newly developed teen
I've just stepped out childhood
Ready to live the life I've dreamed

When will I ever grow up...

The nineteen year old says
They tell me to vote, send me to war
Yet still call me a kid

When will I ever grow up...

Says the twenty something wife
Like I saw in my mother
At this stage in her life

When will I ever grow up...

Little did she know her mother said
When she was also that twenty something
As she gazed at life ahead

When will I ever grow up...

Asks the forty year old divorcee
And will I find someone mature enough
To fill my wants and needs

When will I ever grow up...

I ask myself time and time again
I just hope and pray it happens
As I'm fast approaching the end

When will I ever grow up...**

Says the old man on his death bed
It's got to happen soon
As he expels his last dying breath

The Elusive Muse
Mike Hauser Mar 2014
Have you ever woken up startled
In the middle of the night

With the thought that your muse has left you
And cruelly turned out the lights

Leaving you afraid that in the morning
You'll wake up with no more rhyme

                    More often than not
                    These thoughts enter my head

Although I have often heard
Somethings are better left unsaid

I believe these thoughts I have
                    Would be better off dead

And these words that I now speak
Are they my muse or mine

And if the lights were turned off
Would that be that big a crime

When my muse tries to venture out
I believe the next time

I'll grab a hold, tie her up
And be the one to feed her the lines

One that you can share with friends
A little taste of something juicy
On which an ear can bend

If you can spare a moment
I'll gladly give you what your wanting
Slightly above a whisper
Is how I will be sharing

Not sure if this is true
Not sure that even matters
I'll leave it up to you
How you embellish to make it better

When you're grinding in the rumor mill
Whether course or extra fine
Giving it a turn or two
Is all it takes to ruin lives

I hear you're looking for a rumor
That's the rumor being spread
A little taste of juicy gossip
Something on which an ear can bend

Polly Wolly's Doodle
Mike Hauser Apr 2015
I chanced upon Polly Wolly
Walking one day after school
Clearly without her doodle
Something she thought she'd never lose

She told me she had sat it down
As it was out of tune
And when doodles sound more like poodles
What else is there to do

So I took a hold of Polly
And led her by the hand
Downtown to the lost and found
Where all that's lost is left

She went on and on about her doodle
Like a long lost friend
She asked the lass behind the desk
If she'd ever see her doodle again

The lass asked the doodles color scheme
And how large it was in size
Seems people lose their doodles often
If not most all the time

When they handed her her doodle back
There really wasn't much to say
As Polly Wolly and her doodle
Waddled arm in arm merrily away

The Day After Christmas
Mike Hauser Dec 2016
With the day after Christmas
We return to the normality
Of me not looking at you
And you not talking to me

With hands deep in our pockets
Holding tight the spare change
Where we don't lose what little we've got
Or give too much away

Where all that is seen
Is the blind destiny
As I climb over you
On the rung of what's in it for me

With the day after Christmas
We're back to where we were
Not trying to be
Such good boys and girls

Where a grudge I unwrap
And think bad about you
Wait a minute that
Was the day before too

Where we take peace on Earth
And good will towards men
And pack it away
For another year

Where the Government
Sends us back to the war
With no earthly idea
Of what we're fighting for

Where we don't listen
To the cries of the children
As all of this happens
The day after Christmas

Just when I think I've seen it
All throughout this  land
They went and upped the anti
On the classic can of Spam

Those with the higher power
The ones that run the show
The Spam men of the hour
In a bunker buried way down low

Have added different flavors
To this meat of mystery
From Teriyaki to Tocino
That's bacon to those who don't speak Philippine

They heat it up with Jalapeno
Helps to liven up the slime
Those bunker boys as they're fondly known
Have really out done themselves this time

Aloha from Hawaii?
Imagine Spam in a Hula skirt
As they pull out the Leis and go all the way
Adding pineapple to those Spam burps

Exciting rumors have it
They're in talks with Oreo
There's no place in this universe
That a good slice of spam won't go

The only thing they need to work on
Is the dipping in the milk
They have yet to solve the problem
Of the massive oil spill

Yes they've taken what the rest of us
Never thought could be improved
Just goes to show what ingenuity
And a touch of crazy genius can do

My Wife Want's a Divorce
Mike Hauser Mar 2014
My wife has been asking for a divorce
I'm thinking this time that she is right
It's been a long time in the making
And I know I've put up a good fight

All the time that we've spent together
Must now come to an end
It's true it's you that I cling to
But this is best if the relationship is to mend

Of course I'm a little bit nervous
And this will take time to adjust
But cutting ties is the best of advice
So cutting ties I feel is a must

I think back years ago to the very first call
I picked it up innocently enough
It didn't take long for you to take over my life
Where I fell under your spell, thinking it love

We've been side by side from that moment
I've held you tenderly all of this time
I'm finding it hard to let go of you
But it's best that we part and say our goodbyes

For all good things must come to an end
And we both had a good run of course
So I'm telling you now "Cell Phone" my friend
From you I need a divorce...

Love comes alive
When love flutters free

Love is a car
That is always in drive
Love is a city street
That is lit up at night

Love always has
The softest of hands
And always gives into
Loves high demand

Love is a whisper
That is spoken out loud
Loves when you kiss her
In a tumultuous crowd

Love is the brightness
On a sunny day
Love is a shower
In the middle of May

Love conquers all
When love is set free
Love is a handcuff
That binds you and me

Love is an ocean

And once you've dove in
Don't want to come back again

"My Savior"

I stand on the promises made
To sin no longer am its slave
For me His all is all He gave

"In this I have to thank My Savior"

For me is why He came to die
For me is why He sacrificed
For a lowly sinner such as I

"So in this I have to thank My Savior"

As He hung upon that tree
All the while with thoughts of me
Him being my greatest need

"For in this I have to thank My Savior"

On the third day He arose
Drawing deaths sting to a close
All in Heaven rejoice for they know

"Why in this I have to thank My Savior"

In Him I fully put my trust
To follow no matter what the cost
For He has found what once was lost

"And in this I have to thank My Savior"
Happy Easter my friends!

Do you feel your knee deep in the river of doubt

Where the current is swift and the piranhas hang out

If you don't know what I mean or what I'm talking about

Hang on to your wallet cause your soon to find out

This mean old world can be bitter at best

It'll grind you up, spit you out, then use you to clean up the mess

Believe we've been here before so don't expect any less

How much more can we take is anyone's guess

We have the lawyers, judges, politicians, with the jury still out

Telling us they know what's best for us and like it or not we're going to find out

Up to our necks now in that river of doubt

Anymore from anyone of them and I think that we'll drown

There is the group on the left and the group on the right

Thinking the other sides wrong and their willing to fight

One side brought guns and the other side knives

Was that Miss Liberty I just saw waving bye, bye

The sides are to steep on the riverbank we are in

We all just might drown cause we haven't learned how to swim

In the tank with the sharks, also known as the politicians

No one to lend us a hand with nothing more there to lend

That's the way it now is from beginning to end

Where we're soon to break cause we no longer can bend

Let's just throw them all out and start all over again

Before it's to late my friends and we do ourselves in

The Matchmaker
Mike Hauser Feb 2014
I've undertook the most grueling of tasks
Of matching numbers with the alphabet
I'll soon have them all coming to me
The greatest thing since eHarmony

Standing in the numerical line
With the alphabet I came to align
Spelling out what will come to be
As easy for me as 1, 2, and 3

Right away I matched up A with 22
Thought as a couple they looked mighty cute
The crowd liked what I did so they asked of me
To find the perfect letter for the odd #3

That's when K stood up to say
That he was next in line
I knew there and then I'd found the perfect 10
So I matched him up with #9

I didn't have much luck with setting  X up
It never worked out somehow
I tried and tried with the cute #5
But he has stood her up 6 times now

I worked and worked from daylight till dark
Proud of the progress I made
Taking the alphabet and the letters they met
Each giving their hearts away

But I still have a bit of a problem
I seem to have run into a snag
Though I've found the perfect match for much of the alphabet
I still have plenty of numbers left

are thoughts heard in puddles of rain

if these questions all intrigue you

before your body hits the ground

you may wonder of the nature
of the shadow void of light
strong advice, avoid darkened doorways

Binkie's Big Yard Sale
Mike Hauser May 2013
It's the big day of the big yard sale
Where every thing must go
There was much to much to haul out to the front
So I opened up the home

There were gobs of people everywhere
Wandering around with arms packed full
I'm making money hand over fist
This idea was really cool

You see my neighbors came to me with their front door key
And asked if I'd watch Binkie their cat
While they spent a few days away, I said sure what the hey
So they showed me where everything Binkie was at

While they were gone Binkie got bored
He missed his masters who were out of town
I thought a yard sale would be just the thing, Binkie purred that'd be neat
And of course it brought Binkie's good mood back around

Now before you start thinking bad thoughts of me
And wonder how anyone could sell everything they had
I want you to know I had a slight twinge of guilt
Right before I sold Binkie the cat
Bye, Bye Binkie Bye, Bye ;0)

As I strolled  Beaker Street
A neon sign flashed in front of me

That said "Only Serious Poets Need Apply"
(Blink) "Need Apply" (Blink) "Need Apply"

So it was I thought to myself
I can think of nobody else

As serious a poet as I

I looked to the right and the left
Feeling pretty confident about myself

And decided to take a gander inside

The room it was totally dark
In the corner was the tiniest of sparks

I did a stately poetic stroll in that direction

Feeling I might have made a mistake
This thought occurred a little to late

But of course this whole scene might just be window dressing

A voice said we don't need a poet at all
Just someone dumb and gullible

That's the moment in my pants I started messing

Turns out it was a mad scientist
With a masters degree in craziness

What were his dastardly plans I could only be guessing

I was grabbed by a couple of thugs
Who highly dislike deodorant and mouthwash

******* and flown off to the smallest of islands

Where they did unspeakable experiments on me
In the first, second, and third degree

All because to insanity they took a liking

When it was they were finally done
With what those nut jobs consider good fun

Don't know how many walls they had me climbing

Daily now I plan my escape
I only hope that I'm not to late

When the opportunity arrives I hope I don't blow it

I find it so hard to believe
That this all has happened to me

And Why?
Because of me being such a serious poet

depression
Mike Hauser Oct 2017
to always have this feeling
a feeling that never quits
as it is more depressing
the deeper and darker that it gets

it seems that all these blackened walls
keep closing in on me
where there's not a day i can't recall
of ever feeling free

it's a miracle this broken heart
can keep up with its beats
this feeling that i'm not at all
never seems to leave

shadows in the corners of my soul
beating the happiness out of me
depression has the remote control
changing channels as i breathe

i always have this feeling
that i'm feeling will never quit
it gets more depressing
the deeper and darker that it gets
Was speaking with a friend yesterday that goes through bouts of depression. I really don't understand and that saddens me. I wish I could help but I really don't know how.

~Father's Day~
Mike Hauser Jun 2017
Another year, another Father's day
Too long since mine has passed
Still holding tight the memories
Of the man that I called Dad

He did with me the best he could
Teaching me what he thought was right
Never turn your face my son the evil ways
When it comes to justice stand and fight

Always respect your Mother
Loving her the best you can
And when you see those with little hope
Lift them up with the kind word of friend

Valuable lessons that my Daddy gave
I can't begin to tell
He is with my other Father now
In Heaven where all is well

If I could be half the man my Father was
Remembering all he thought was right
Like being the best Dad for his kids
Then I will have served out well my purpose in life

This Girl
Mike Hauser Jun 2015
This girl...
Counts the seconds using minutes
As far as the day is long
She's never been an artist
But still can draw a crowd

She likes pink and purple paisley
Because it goes with everything
Has a bird that speaks Pig Latin
And another one that sings

She bathes out in the moonlight
For an even nightly glow
She never steps on sidewalk cracks
Cause she loves her mother so

She shows up late to parties
So she can greet those first to leave
Takes advice from Sir Paul the knight
Knowing when to Let it be

Her bed is filled with China dolls
Not a one of them the same
She calls them all Sweet Lucy
As she knows no other name

This Girl...
Starts out in the middle
So she's closer to the end
Knowing that when she reaches it
She can start all over again
Mike Hauser May 2014
Did you hear me say that I love you
Did you hear me say until the very end
Well if you heard that I take it all back
You will never hear me say it again

Did you hear me say that you are precious
Did you hear me say you're all I need in life
Well now that I know everything about you girl
Let's just say it was a lie

Did you hear me say it in a moment of passion
Did you hear me say it out of ignorance
Well if it is I did you can believe on this
It will never again pass these lips

Did you hear me say we'd stay together
Did you hear me say until the bitter end
Well the bitter taste in my mouth I'm spitting out
And will never taste of it again

~Margarita~
Mike Hauser Feb 2015
Margarita...
Just over the border line
Count her in tequila time
With a second hand squeeze of lime

Margarita...
With the slightest of accents
Just enough to wonder what she meant
Takes back all the time you've spent

Margarita...
Comes to you with the blood shot eyes
Enough to make a grown man cry
With the feeling they've up and died

Margarita...
Mariachi music playing on the wind
Wake up with all your money spent
If your not broke at least your half bent

Margarita...
When will her madness end

Growing Up Down In The South
Mike Hauser Aug 2017
Just North of South Carolina
Is where this country boy was born
All I really cared in those growing years
Was the running through woods kind of fun

Those days I fondly remember
There's no way you can bad mouth the South
With water up to our knees chasing crawfish in creeks
And anything else nature would allow

Even squirrel hunting as younguns
So my Granny could make us a pie
No secret better kept than eating straight off the land
Whether it was squirrels or apples to find
Granny always made delicious pies

Always in church every Sunday
Paying the Lord his due respects
For all that we have and all that he gives
Plus for the forgiveness of sins

Then after church when there weren't no chores
We'd kiss and tell our parents goodbye
They'd not see us again till we heard the bell ring
Come about supper time

There's something that's to be said about being a kid
Growing up down in the South
Where there's no better time below the Mason Dixon line
But that you'd have to find out for yourself
Mike Hauser Mar 2013
As I step through the door
Of my office - Doughnuts Galore
Mildred from behind the counter nods her head at me

I come here every day for a few
Jelly doughnuts and nasty brew
Looking for the perfect job that keeps eluding me

I again pick up the daily rag
Scouring the classified ads
Hoping to find something interesting I see

My bladder lets lose
At the greatest of news
In Black and White Bold Type face do I read

Wanted lead guitarist in
An up and coming Air Rock Band
Mildred comes and picks me up off the floor

I went and applied for the job
And with a wink and a nod
They said your exactly what we're looking for

We practice day and night
Hitting all the notes right
Till our Air Rock Band was ready for tour

The crowds we all wowed
As we brought down every house
In venues we played up and down the Eastern shore

From top forty pop
To industrial techno rock
There wasn't a song we couldn't toast

We even threw a few polkas in
Sounding sweeter than sin
Cause Brian the drummer likes polka the most

We finally hit the big time
When we went nation wide
The Greatest Air Rock Band the worlds ever known

But as fast as we went to the top
That's just as fast as we dropped
Dead air was all you heard from us on the radio

a love poem
Mike Hauser Jan 2021
i've never been one to write a love poem
no stretch to see that's true
so mark this down as my last hope
to tell you i'm in love with you

as many does as there are don'ts
as many don'ts as does
this simple fact won't leave me alone
the fact that i'm in love with you

what i wouldn't give to write a love poem
one to make the mountains move
to let you know you are the one
if i wrote a love poem, it would be you

The Path
Mike Hauser Sep 2016
Show me the path
That's narrow and straight
I'll put on my shoes
And be on my way
I'll turn to the blues
And tell them to stay
If my shoe strings come loose
I'll leave them where they lay

There won't be a thing
Holding me back
I'll throw over my shoulder
A single backpack
With nothing in it
As there'll be nothing I lack
As I follow in life
This chosen path

Satan is a LIAR!
Mike Hauser Jun 2013
Satan is a liar
He is the king of thieves
Stealing from you blindly
As he puts your mind at ease

You enjoy it so much
You keep coming back for more
You place the noose around your own neck
As he tightens up the cord

It's said that in the end times
What's right will look all wrong
I believe that in our haste
That is what we've chanced upon

So as we're happily splashing in the cesspool
Of mans sinful disease
Do we not except that if we hold our breath
When we've had enough we'll gladly leave

Satan pours the lies on thickly
As we tread gasping for air
Holds his hand out in the gesture
Of a friend who really cares

But the other hand is held behind his back
To hide his wicked deeds
Because Satan is a liar
And he is the king of thieves

Zombie Mimes
Mike Hauser Mar 2013
They're out there on the streets
I can see them as I crack my blinds
They're passing by so silently
I'm to freaked to step outside

I know that if they catch me
They'll put me in an imaginary box
And keep me there til midday
Where they'll have my brains for lunch

Or tie me up with an imaginary rope
To an imaginary tree
And force me to watch them preform a rendition of Thriller
Like a bad episode of Glee

Yes, those Zombie Mimes are freakzoides
Long before they became the preforming dead
I've been uncomfortable in their presence
Could it be because of something they once said

Wait...now here they go
Pretending to walk against the wind
Will I ever be able to venture outside
Will this silent madness ever end

I don't know where they contracted the Zombie virus
Or even how this all went down
I only hope and pray it doesn't infect

~Picasso's mind~
Mike Hauser Jan 2017
if you look inside Picasso's mind
there is no telling what you will find

he had no rules in which to break
in the take of chance along the way

as mocking birds sing foreign tunes
just outside of his blue room

painting all night in abstract
but isn't life a lot like that

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Mike Hauser Jan 2016
Daddy somebody shot that man
I heard this eleven year old say
I didn't really understand at the time
I just knew a man was dead

But with the years that followed
I came to learn how much he meant
To this world in its great need
And how well that time was spent

He preached of equality he preached of peace
As he spoke of man as one
He marched his way down city streets
Facing adversity with the face of love

He was done with all the hatred
That fills so many lives
To him color was a vision
Of equality in his eyes

A life so young a life cut short
By the wicked in us all
Will you stand with me and follow him
Will you heed his righteous call

To call every man your brother
The way Martin Luther King Jr. did
To keep the vision of this visionary alive
A reality in which all mankind should live
I've run this the past couple years but this great man made such an impact on my life that it bears repeating.  We need more men like him today...a true hero! (Oh and I'm not back yet from my sabbatical, so don't tell anyone I was here...let's keep that our little secret)

God's Word
Mike Hauser Nov 2017
Why do some find God's Word so offensive
When all that it speaks of is love
Something I see this fallen world needs
A place where there is never enough

Why do some take God's Word for granted
With the idea it's alright to sin
Like it's a free pass doing all the wrong that they can
After all God will forgive

Why do some hear God's Word but don't listen
Whether in the pew or out on the streets
They are either chained by Satan or religion
It's only the Word that can set you free

Why do some bring God's word up when confronted
Saying who appointed you as my judge
The only Scripture they know when it comes to blows
Is Matthew 7:1

Why do you find God's Word so offensive
Is it because Satan has a hold of your heart
You might think that you're fine but in truth you're blind
If you don't take God at His Word
Mike Hauser Sep 2014
Poetry...Are you kidding me?!
And you call yourself a man?
Do you like Unicorns with paisley horns
and rainbow marching bands?

Is your love in life, butterflies
that give sweet sticky kisses?
Flutter off holding hands
with fluffy cuddly kittens?

Do you also ride on girly bikes
and play with Barbie dolls?
Poetry...Are you kidding me?!
Now I think I've seen it all!
Just thinking of some of the reactions I get when I tell some guys I write poetry...Maybe not this drastic but you get the idea!
Mike Hauser Jul 2014
You can't stop the world from turning
If you feel like jumping off
You can't double up your earnings
If your middles gotten soft

You can dream of the solution
But you must act on it as well
Just make sure of what your doing
Cause you can't unring a bell

You can't stop a word that's hateful
Once it's flying through mid air
You can't make a person grateful
If they've never really cared

You can't change the image in the looking glass
Or halt a wave mid swell
A churning ocean is never clear
And you can't unring a bell

You can't start a new beginning
If your at the very  end
Nor untie a knot cinched tight
With only thoughts blown on the wind

You can't promise the world in wonder
And the stars above as well
Then decide at last to take it back
Cause you can't unring a bell

You can't change the law of physics
Or add words to a dried up pen
There's no fourth to your three wishes
And you can't hide behind your name

It's hard to see light if you're too far down
In the digging of your well
Breathing does not mean you're living
And you can't unring a bell
Thank you Don for the inspiration on this piece! I bet your father was a wonderful man. I used to love sitting with my father and listening to the stories of the past. Seems these days we're all in to much of a hurry to get nowhere when just sitting and talking is the only place we really need to be.

waging WAR with myself
Mike Hauser Oct 2013
With my bags and weapons packed
I am now ready for
Whatever it is I throw at me
In this, my one man war

On this ****** battlefield
Where there is only I
Bravery is in high need
When it is to myself that I must die

I have waged this vicious war
For countless amount of years
From the dark jungles deep in doubt
Through the rivers of many tears

So many times I've been wounded
Waving the white flag
Once again a prisoner of myself
In a battle I seldom understand

I know this enemy intimately
Yet I'm still taken by surprise
When what I think is best for me
Is his main disguise

The difference this time on the front line
Is I'll be holding steady
When I come face to face with me, the enemy
I'm now prepared and ready

So Glad We Met
Mike Hauser Jan 2017
Can you imagine
Where we would be
If I had not met you
If you had not met me

And if on that day
You had not said yes
I can't imagine
Can't even guess

And then if you
Had not said I do
Where would we be
If not me and you

And if that kiss
Had not sealed the deal
Where would we be
How would we feel

If we weren't here
At this point in life
Where would we be
If not side by side

If we had not
Taken those steps
If you and I
Had never met

our wilderness

with our relationship in the wilderness

the way out is anybody's guess

can't see the forest for the trees

where used to be our running stream

hungry wolves in the not too far distance

if there ever was a clearing we must have missed it

the day they send search parties out

we both will hide beyond a doubt

because time spent in the wilderness

after awhile you get used to it
