out of control
Mike Hauser Jul 2018
always amazes me
how we think we're free
with rhythm to the beat
being the chains on our feet
complacent in our lull
...so far out of control

with the wonderment of me
to fill our needs
pile high on the heap
the selfishness we keep
a cushion to the soul
...so far out of control

stopping at the light
reflect while it's red
not a lot of time
and with that being said
green light on the go
...so far out of control

out on a dinner date
food and phone fill your face
raise your eyes just in time
as the bill arrives
might as well have been alone
...so far out of control

a need to socialize
with those of like mind
other thoughts we'll never find
if others we pay no mind
say we do but don't
...so far out of control

think we know what's best
us and no one else
tightening up the belt
on the world of self
how could we not know
...so far out of control

Drugs
Mike Hauser Jul 2018
You started this off simple enough
It's not like *** is a drug
Certainly can't do any harm
And after all it's natural

You take a few puffs with a few of your friends
With no way of knowing you won't be content
You've heard it leads to stronger things
You say maybe for them but not for me

But then you are offered a little pick me up
As you're standing in line for a line of the stuff
It's only for fun it's not like you need
So you do a toot with the attitude of take it or leave

Then a friend says to you have you tried pills with *****
And you spend the whole night without an inkling or clue
Of where you are going or where you have been
Be careful of who you tend to call friend

Before you know you're left with little hope
Would anything have change if only you'd known
And to think this started off simple enough
After all it's not like *** is a drug

The Wearing of Colors
Mike Hauser Jul 2018
There isn't a color I haven't worn
From green jealousy to the blues that mourn
Scared of the yellows and the patterns they form
Life's colorful fabric tattered and torn

Slipping the anger of red over my head
Picking up the threads that fall in my lap
Saving the shades to which I place most blame
The darker ones I keep for the dropping of names

There isn't a color that I haven't worn
On the color wheel spectrum I haven't put on
A rainbow array into life's lining I've sewn
All of the colors that I've ever worn

You Will Always Be My Girl
Mike Hauser Jul 2018
Me and you without a clue
Of half the things that we'll go through
From early morn till late at night
Side by side through this life
Riding high this tilt-a-whirl
You will always be my girl

Up and down, in and out
Both of us squarely spinning round
Clearly not a piece of cake
Making due with the deserts we make
A many faceted diamond, well rounded pearl
I'm so blessed that you're my girl

Grooming all we know with a fine tooth comb
Then placing a bow on our happy home
It's our belief that sets us free
And I believe in you and me
Whatever goes down in this crazy world
You will always be my girl

Happy 4th of July!
Mike Hauser Jul 2018
In order to save some money
Which in hindsight wasn't smart
Me and my buddies got together
To make our own fireworks

And as luck would have it
We found all we need under the kitchen sink
The whole time looking to do this cheap
Instead we came out free

Knowing this day would draw a crowd
As soon as the rumor mill filled up
So in our vast wisdom with a few cells missing
We mixed the batch up in Jimmy's tub

Not being exact on science
As illustrated in that magazine
We felt no need to measure
And might have gone a bit extreme

As soon as the stuff started bubbling up
That thought did cross our minds
Remember at the start, saying it wasn't smart
And that little mention of hindsight

With the size of the flash, little wonder we're not ash
And still have all our fingers and toes
It's hard to explain the size of the bang
And why now Jimmy's house is one big hole

But we did put on a show not soon forgotten
That could be seen from outer space
And where Jimmy's house used to be
There's now a community pool in it's place

So come and join us on this holiday
Burgers, beer, and of course fireworks
In fact we're heading to Davy's house now
To mix a few things up...

~Americana Panarama~
Mike Hauser Jul 2018
Land of the free
Home of the brave
From sea to shining sea
In between golden waves

From the fields farmers plant
Across the vast Mid-West
In this Americana Panorama

Northern cities touching sky
Scrapers lighting up the night
As the Carolina shore
Echos back the oceans roar

Along the Texas plains
Where freedom loves to sing
In this Americana Panorama

With the Grand Canyons openness
To Alaska's wilderness
The mountains majesty
Powerful in its reach

In all the time that's spent
There's no other way to live
In this Americana Panorama

The colorful blue fescue
On a Kentucky afternoon
Under a Live Oak tree
With Spanish moss as company

To the California sunset
Being the last thing said
In this Americana Panorama
Happy Birthday America!

Write it down
Slap its rear
Another poem
Is outta here
Look at it once
No more than twice
To sit and stare
We ain't got time
As another poem
Is being formed
While we talk
About this one

Something To Complain
Mike Hauser Jul 2018
If everything was running smooth
Dancing in the rain
All the music was in tune
Not a day that's late
Every track ahead was clear
For this North bound train
The big to do of me and you
Would still find something to complain

With the color both sides the street
The darkest shade of green
Good times never out of sight
The sunny side each day we'd greet
Or at the market food department
Giving free magic beans
You'd look at me and we'd both agree
There'd be something to complain

If we were told the icings gold
On every birthday cake
The weather here this time of year
Is like standing in the shade
And down on every corner
They're giving dollar bills away
The spot we're at we would sit
And find something to complain

If every test flying colors passed
Always with an A
Knowing well but would never tell
Didn't study much that day
And all along what could go wrong
Never got the blame
Through all of it not one thought to quit
But still finding something to complain

Barabbas
Mike Hauser Jul 2018
I heard a shout from the crowd
Set the guilty free
To this day I still think about
Why him and not me

I'd heard the man was innocent
That he'd done nothing wrong
As he said underneath his breath
Forgive them, they no not what they've done

I made my way that day out of harms way
Swearing never to look back
But felt the urge, wouldn't call it courage
That held me down where I was at

Following at a short distance
The one who took my palce
With a strong need for forgiveness
I still hold to this day

Through it all with him on trial
I felt the guilt, the shame
Could not help but think about
Me being partially to blame

As he stood there in silence
A lamb being led to slaughter
The hungry wolves would have his head
He'd be dead by tomorrow

Guilty came the verdict
To the worlds sigh of relief
As once again I wondered
Why him Lord, not me

I followed along as he carried his cross
Hoping not to be recognized
You never know how far a crowd will go
Or when a mob could change their mind

This is the other side of the story
From the day I was set free
The day my life was changed when I
Watched the Prince of Peace hang on that tree
Dying for the sin of you and me
I wonder at times what happened to Barabbas after he was set free when Jesus took his place. Very interesting story that is in all four Gospels that is well worth the read!

One Word At A Time
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
This poem has been set to rhyme

One word at a time

Reading from the left to right

One word at a time

Line after thoughtful line

One word at a time

Setting your mind into flight

One word at a time

Removing all the dirt and grime

One word at a time

Holding truth in hopes you bite

One word at a time

A poetic read in which to dine

One word at a time

Until the end in which you find

It was done successfully...

One word at a time
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
There's something crazy going on these days
Down at the city zoo
The giraffes have joined the high society club
While the monkies are getting tattoos

The elephant's are packing up their trunks
And moving to the Bronx
With all the hippos on a diet
In an effort to lose their junk

The Lions have stopped lying
The cheetahs have stopped cheating
And as far as all their drinking
They're both going to A.A. meetings

The orangutans are the ones to blame
For a pyramid scheme gone bad
Left the zebras all in the red
When they lost everything they had

The crocodiles are out sunning themselves
By the pool drinking Piña coladas
While the mother snakes go on Maury
To try and figure out who is the father

Yes, things are a little crazy these days
Down at the city zoo
But if you were locked in a cage all day
Wouldn't you go crazy too?

Chalk Life
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
You write the note upon the wall
Hoping for permanent but all you have is chalk
Could this have been a Freudian slip
Knowing sooner or later you'll be back

You set your bags out by the walk
Thankful chalk is the only times these walls talk
For there's no telling what they would say
Keeping more secrets than they could ever give away

The cab pulls up into the drive
You turn one last time for a sad goodbye
Stepping into the waiting car
Thinking back on when you two once were

You wipe the dust from off your hands
The fact you chose blue was that also your plan
Looking for something more permanent
But in life chalk is all you have left

About A Man
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
You can tell a lot
about the heart of a man
By the way he holds
a crying child's hand
By the way he feels
the need to keep peace
With those less deserving
him being the highest of these

You can tell a lot
about the soul of a man
By the way he works out
inside of his plans
By the does he once did
he never kept hid
By the courage he has
when he has nothing left

You can tell a lot
about the mind of a man
By the way that he minds
the peace being kept
By the thoughts that he has
in the things that he says
You can certainly tell
a lot about a man

Funny Bone
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
When you get that funny feeling
From your toes up to the ceiling
Kind of hurts but then again it don't

It's a bit surprising
Makes your eyes go to a crying
All the while chuckling along

You wonder who named this thing
That makes you want to ****** scream
The moment that you hit your Funny Bone

You say it hurts like...Hey!
Before you get carried away
Take a deep breath and remain calm

As you rub that spot real tight
With what is left of your manly might
Exactly where you'll never know

Still you keep rubbing away
Like there's no end to this crazy day
Trying your best to comfort your Funny Bone

How many times in life you'll hit
There's no way of telling it
Guaranteed though to be more than one

It's just a part of this life
That is humorlessly proved from time to time
From the sound of the many groans

And with all of this being said
The best of secrets never kept
Every time you hit your Funny Bone

the poem you wrote
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
i want you to know, the poem you wrote
it really touched my heart
did you have an idea when you wrote it
that it would be the spark
to lighten up the inner flame
that would brighten up my dark
a poem that touched my very soul
and left on it, it's mark

did you know the words you chose
brought me to my knees
and that those very words you chose
were at that moment what i needed
they caused the clouds to separate
and the sun to shine on me
the words you chose
swung wide open the closed
door in front of me

i just wanted you to know
about the poem you wrote
Wrote this a few years back but it still holds true today with the poems I've been reading lately....So many wonderful Poet's on here!
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
We're rambling and we're ready
Everybody hop on the bus
Rolling along, rocking steady
Ready Freddy we're all standing up

But are we lost in the translation
Frenzy spilling from the cup
Drowning out a once great nation
"Where is all the tolerance"

Memories in the making
Hating where the day comes from
Blind disaster dating
What has happened to all of the love

Aren't we all brothers and sisters
Neighbors with a once peaceful cause
I just have one question mister
"Where is all the tolerance"

When the pain gets its name from the struggle
Haven't we all struggled long enough
The deeper the dig uncovers trouble
Forgiveness covered in dust

Screaming hate only leads to violence
Where is the trust we once had in love
What is right should never be silenced
"Where is all the tolerance"

Pleased To Meet You
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
Please allow me to introduce myself
In case you're new to the scene
I am the thought that brings on the doubt
At the edge of all your dreams

I am lost confidence in the making
With deception on the side
The shiver in the shaking
The turning over of time

I am the spot closest to the end
When you have no where else to turn
The front door to the school of hardknocks
When there's a lesson needed to learn

I am the dust that's on the shelf
Of your life's ambition
The torn out page if nothing else
Of the part that you are missing

So please allow me to introduce myself
Just in case your new to the scene
When it comes down to it above everything else
I am all you and you are all me

Looking For A Song
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
This poem is out looking for a song
With a desperate need to be sung
To dive in deep with a melody
Taping out in rhyme to a 3/4 beat

This poem can barely keep
Itself from a three part harmony
Knows it would never tire if it made the choir
Letting the bass go low to its alto

Doing what it can to be in the band
If you've never rhymed you wouldn't understand
As far as a mile is long
Is the need for this poem to be sung

This Is A Really Good Poem
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
This is a really good poem you will find
Having the perfect number of lines
That's not too deep where as you'll over think
Or one that's too vague that will put you to sleep

A really good poem I've written this time
Knows what it is doing when it comes to the rhyme
With just enough hidden to have you wanting more
Loaded with action so you'll never be bored

This really good poem is a lot like fine dining
A seven course meal laid out in its rhyming
Holding you captive from beginning to end
Making you wonder how without it you ever could live

With this really good poem you can see I'm not lying
As you read over it once getting ready for twice
Being impressed with its rhythm and flow
This is a really good poem just so you know

Goodbye Brotherly Love
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
Life is a must
But who can you trust
Before we turn back
Dust into dust

These days being more
Than wish upon a star
In this nightmarish scene
We've become who we are

I used to laugh at the circumstance
Now wonder what's up with that
Packed its bags then up and left
Making brotherly love a thing of the past

When arguments
Are no more than screaming fits
Which makes it hard
To try and convince

This is not just a slice
Of American pie
This tasteless desert
Is served up world wide

I used to laugh at the circumstance
Now wonder what's up with that
Packed its bags then up and left
Making brotherly love a thing of the past

Seems there are only two sides
One on the left, one on the right
Where the ground in the middle
Is used for the fight

We're quickly to choose
Without a moment to think
Where all that we do
Is stand there and scream

I used to laugh at the circumstance
Now wonder what's up with that
Packed its bags then up and left
Making brotherly love a thing of the past

...the color blue
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
as far as colors go
there's not a one you haven't owned
but the one that keeps haunting you
...is the color blue

from the day that your dreams left
to the thoughts they may come back
you've seen the hidden truth
...in the color blue

somethings you can't control
heart strings don't always hold
when the twine you too often use
...is in the color blue

you try and grasp the day
before it fades away
letting the night shine through
...into the color blue

all you ask is for a chance
with crayola box in hand
looking for a different hue
...outside the color blue

you'll have the color wheel
served up as your last meal
but when death finally comes for you
...it'll be in the color blue

the dream
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
leaning on the fender
of someone else's dream
am i really in here
or just pretending to be
not ready yet to wake up
please don't pinch me

the owner of the dream i think
looks at me and smiles
rust on my britches
this dreams been here awhile
i glance at the odometer
it's got a lot of miles

no wait, he's a dream salesman
asks if i'm here to buy
says this is one of the best of them
go ahead and kick the tires
i go ahead and kick the tires
this guy is not a liar

now i'm in my very own dream
spinning down the road
never really had a dream
i could call my very own
90 miles an hour
safely tucked in my bed at home

My Apologies
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
Everytime I think of you
Do you think of me
And if you do, I apologize
For keeping you so busy
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
There's a calmness to the air of the trailer park
As the dumpster in the back slides to the right
Underneath is where our Super Hero has his lair
And where adventure starts out every night

For years now it's been the same old routine
Belches as he wobbles to his feet
Throws the remote down on the beer stained couch
Scratches his rear at the same time picking his teeth

Yes, the night belongs to Beer Belly Batman
Who spends his time fighting petty crime
From spitting on the sidewalkers to mouth full of food talkers
Putting them back in their place and back in line

Sure he used to be a top notch crime fighter
Evil forces he always did foil
But after years and years of beating crime up
The beating on him has taken its toll

If the neighbors music is to loud feel free to call him
Nothing he likes better than knocking heads of unruly kids
Hey Punk! Pull Your Pants Up! Is his favorite motto...
Giving Super Hero Wedges like nobody's biz

I don't know about you but this much is true
I always feel a little more safe and sound
And sleep that much better at night
Knowing there's a White Trash Super Hero around

the itch
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
everyone has an itch

that is begging to be scratched

complicated, simple, poor, or rich

everyone has an itch

where they feel the need to scratch

on the itch that they have

wants or needs, immaculant, unkept

everyone tries to scratch

on this itch that we have

that seems to give us all a fit

it's part of life, this life we live

with this need to scratch the itch
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
While some may write about their life
Wishing the facts we're more like fiction
Some draw off the lessons taught
Others with pieces missing

And then you have the happy clan
All good natured sages
Where they wine and dine on better times
Positively filling the pages

Either way it's okay with what they say
Not one write is wrong
Rain or shine each day riding the poetic wave
All strung along by the poem

From the simplest of words to those seldom heard
Whether you do or you don't rhyme
Comes packaged as the disease and also the cure
Darkness as well as the light

Some only write when they're down and empty
Filling the void with thoughts and words
Some when love is a-plenty
Begging those words to be heard

Either way it's okay with what they say
Not one write is wrong
Rain or shine each day riding the poetic wave
All strung along by the poem

The Count Down
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
The first drink is to calm the shakes
The second one to help erase
This retched life that I can't face
All because of my drinking days

The third one to take off the edge
The forth is more to help forget
All I said and all I did
When I downed that one drink left

The fifth makes me foolishly think I can
The sixth helps slur what words are left
Where all of this will end up at
Word to the wise, don't place your bets

The seventh turns into a cry for help
While the eighth one helps itself
On the ship that has set sail
Upon this demon liquids constant swell

After nine I can't remember why
Ten to see I'm legally blind
After all of this you would think I'd find
A better way to spend my time
I thank God daily I gave up drinking 28 years ago but have so many friends that are stuck in this Hell...Looking on from the sober side of life it is true insanity.

Laid out on the kitchen linoleum floor
Broken pieces like a clear glass jar
Be careful now you don't cut yourself
On what shards of me are left

I'd always considered myself shatterproof
That is until the day I met you
You picked me up then threw me down
Just to hear my broken sound

Breakng me in a clean sweep
Trying to keep this all so neat
Though it does not change the simple fact
All I am to you is broken glass

The Trade
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
I'm trading the bright lights for the bluest skies
My eyes have ever seen
The jungle of asphalt that I now walk
For the purest of golden streets

This one room shack in which I live
For a mansion of many rooms
The lies told by the deciever
For an eternity of truth

I'm trading the aches the pain the guilt the shame
For a soul that's sastisfied
As these bones and flesh return to dust
Greeted by the other side

Where I will meet my maker
And His Son face to face
Praising Jesus as my Savior
Throughout my never ending days

I'm trading in the corruption
And all of sins control
As it has given me nothing
But evil desires of want

When I breathe my final breath of this life
On that glorious day
Leaving all of this behind
When I make the trade

A Loan Without My Shadow
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
My shadow these days it seems
Does more things than me
Always in and about town
Clearly follows excitement around

Hooks itself to other folk
At their feet like a puppy dog
Happy enough to wag its tail
Following along their sunny trail

Having fun, the best of times
Showing off in the brightest light
Sliding across floors and climbing walls
My shadow seems to do it all

If it had a brain would it ever think
Of all the time it spent with me
The fun we had in broad daylight
Back to front, side by side

But alas now it seems
My shadow has no use for me
It came to this for me to know
The shadow I thought I owned was just a loan

24 Hours in A Day
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
The Sun it peeks out from the dark
Flicks its Bic, lights a spark
Thinks of itself as a star
As it makes its way
To a brighter day
With so much to say

Winks at the Moon to its left
Halfway hidden in a cleft
Bids good night tells it to rest
Until dark rolls back around
Where it can again shoot up the town
As the sun is going down

Who will be Left
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
I was silent when they came for the less fortunate
Happy it didn't involve me
Wasn't like I didn't care enough
It just had nothing to do with me

Not a word was heard when they burned
The Synagogues, Mosques, and Cathedrals
All this for the hate that exists
All this for and from a peaceful people?

I was deaf when they screamed at the tone of your skin
Because your color is different from me
Is it ignorance in the mixing
What purity are we trying to keep

And when they came for those a bit different
Than what I think in the eyes of me
Amongst the cries for help I didn't listen
After all they'd been warned quite extensively

Then when I looked and saw nothing left from the aftermath
As far as the naked eye could see
There was no one left to speak up on my behalf
That's when they decided to come after me
After reading the poem "First they came..." Written by Friedrich Gustav Emil Martin Niemoller I was moved to write this...

Exit...Stage Left
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
You might take one look at me
And wonder what is going on
Questioning my sanity
At every turning point

You might never get the answers
You are looking for
When the elevator I'm riding in
Only stops on the odd floors

You might shake your head and wonder at
In anticipation
Expecting that the things I've said
To make sense while you are waiting

When men of modern science
Often look at me and marvel
How can he even think to breathe
While missing most his marbles

On most days I wear a cape
Though I'm no super hero
You won't see me at bullet speed
With motivation set at zero

I don't have enough hands
To count my many imaginary friends
As everyone has set up camp
Inside my empty head

And with that said if you catch my drift
Along with Snagglepuss
I'll Exit...Stage left

Poetry To Me...

Poetry to me...

Is the space in-between
The heart and the mind
The beat and the think
The in and the out
The lost and the found
The moment it all
Comes back around
The river that flows
Out from the soul
To parts unknown
Places untold
All that is seen
In the hidden deep
All this you see

Is poetry to me...

There's a chef in my mind
That does all the cooking
Mixing words into rhyme
Brings home the bacon

Changes up recipes
Stirring freely
In and out of the pan
With poetic ease

If it's not to his taste
He spices it up
Broiled, fried, or baked
Poems served up for lunch

It's like he's on a mission
Always in my kitchen
Trying new recipes out
On whoever will listen

The chef in my mind
That does all the cooking
Mixing words into rhyme
Brings home the bacon

not everything is meant to last

take for granted what you have

until you have nothing left

then you will end up wishing that

you now have what you once had

It'll All Work Out
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
Don't give away
To the day after day
All you have fought for
All you have saved
All of the meaning
In all that you say
As you move forward
Making your way

Never give into
The thoughts in your head
As life lays itself out
Not fitting your plans
Less of an answer
More a demand
Between mounting pressures
Just know that you can

Past, present, or future
We all have the right
Whether you've peacefully been there
Or put up a fight
Please just remember
That over time
You're sure to find
Everything will be fine

Girl of my Dreams
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
Fresh shower and a shave
First one I've had in days
Clean pressed jammies, and new sheets
Off to meet the girl of my dreams

I pull down tight on the shades
Hoping against hope I'm not running late
We get together most Saturday nights
When I pull up the covers and shut out the lights

I often wonder where we'll go
As neither of us ever really knows
Where the mind travels in its comatose state
Or where dream girls like to go on dates

We might end up at some fancy dance
Or a beach somewhere in the South of France
It all depends on her or is that depends on me
When I'm out cold with the girl of my dreams

Sometimes I play her hero well
But not that super if the truth I must tell
Slowing moving as if in a dream
Most Saturday nights in my sleep

Over time she has never changed
In fact even I look pretty much the same
Whenever we have a chance to meet
Out on a date with the girl of my dreams

*pain*
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
was that an ache
or a pain
hold on a sec
here it comes again
if i had
to give it a name
it definitely
would be a pain
now to guess
where it comes from
up or down
back to front
in or out
out to lunch
points in-between
is my hunch
can it be helped
with advil
or do i need
something stronger still
to try and take
the pain to nill
or at least
bend it's will
this ache that i
now know as pain
that makes its way
into my brain
that is the best
at playing games
disappears
shows up again
it's such an ache
to deal with pain

Some days you're thrown an I just don't know
Other days it's all right there
A glimmer of hope in which to cope
A fresh breath of poetic air

A constant loop as the dial slowly moves
In its never ending search for the truth
Some days you write the poem
Some days the poem writes you

From the ups and downs to the toss arounds
All  grate on a soul in time
But what's growing there inside your despair
Can pour forth in the perfect rhyme

Some days you find the inner light
Others you have no clue
Some days you write the poem
Some days the poem writes you

You can be more or less inspirationaless
Then your pen flairs with the finest finesse
The point that you make either blows them away
Or what you have to say is anyone's guess

Holding onto the theme of your color scheme
Being the brightest of hues
Some days you write the poem
Some days the poem writes you
A little inspiration borrowed from Guy Clark...

We look at your life and don't think twice
You've got the best of all worlds
Then we hear, suicide
And realize this isn't Disney World

Who knows the deep dark secrets
That each and everyone hides
Who's been promised this life but can't keep it
Turning off the switch before their time

Does hope never visit the hopeless
Has it left with no forwarding address
With those depressed would we know it
If we had to make a wild guess

The non suffering have no way of knowing
The darkness that invades the soul
A pain that's continually growing
Until it takes full control

The world outside sees your love for this life
And never truly understands
As you struggle to find the thoughts in your mind say
Suicide is all you have left

Promises Made
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
You may not remember
Me now by name
Or the promise I made
On our wedding day

Through thick and thin
To have and to hold
From this day forward
As we both grow old

Whatever is thrown
Our way my love
It's never enough
To break us up

Even if you
Forget who I am
A promise is a promise
And needs to be kept

Through good and bad times
Till death do us part
Though these bodies may change
Love is still where we are

Though memory may falter
And over time fade
I remember the altar
And the promises made

Dropping Leaves
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
The doctor told my daddy
He's got weeks to live
He came straight home to tell my mom
And us hungry kids

With not a single penny saved
Down at the local bank
My daddy made his way out back
And started digging his own grave

He picked the sweetest resting spot
Underneath the maple tree
So when the leaves decide to drop
We can rake in his memory

My daddy winked and said all this
With the biggest of his grins
Coughing up a spot of blood
We decided then to go back in

Things are mostly quiet
Around here these sad days
Ever since the hand of death
Put my daddy in his grave

I'm now in that maple tree
With no one to push my lonely swing
Thinking of my daddy
Waiting on those dropping leaves

A Pity
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
You know what I find a pity
The way some folk behave
And what really gets to me, is I see
That I sometimes behave the same

Some things in life that I don't like
In others, I see in myself
Still I find a way to complain
About everyone else

Don't you find this all a pity
The way some people do
Stand here long enough it's not that tough
To see you do it too

History
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
I would like sometimes
To just up and leave
Be gone till no one
Is out looking for me
A secret hiding place
That only I can keep
Off in the distance
A fading memory

Holding onto the whisper
That's never heard from again
Unfolding the map
That leads to Neverland
Embracing the fact
No one knows who I am
And if there's anything left
I'll leave even that

Escape from the place
That I was last seen
Permanently erase
All thoughts of me
Change every trace of my name
You would ever care to think
Do all this and call
Myself history

Some people
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
Some people do this
Some people do that
Some make a new list
Check off the old facts
Pencil it in
All the above
Some people hate
Some people love

Some people have
Some people have not
Some people don't
Know what they have got
Some people give
Others just take
Some people love
Some people hate

Some people know
Some people don't
Whether or not
They will or they won't
Some are the windshield
Others the bug
Some people hate
Some people love

Before that's all she wrote
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
He keeps a locket of her hair
Folded up in a envelope
There from the days she cared
Before that's all she wrote

Pulls it out from time to time
When he finds time to reminisce
About the time they shared a life
Still missing that first kiss

And just as fast as that
He slides it back in the envelope
As he thinks back to the time
Before that's all she wrote

Fool For You In Love
Mike Hauser Jun 2018
You look at me and mostly see
The simplest of clowns
Acting out the fool in all I do
Whenever you're around

Not just the nose that's red of course
As I embarrass myself too much
Trying to empress with what little I have
This fool for you in love

With the atmosphere of Circus here
I pull out all the stops
Imagine me in Center Ring
Giving it all I've got

A clown that hopes you love bad jokes
And can not get enough
Taking that thought all the way to the Big Top
This fool for you in love

Juggling with all my might this crazy life
To bring you closer to me
The Greatest Show on Earth for all we're worth
Anyone has ever seen

With painted smile mile after mile
Not resting till I'm done
All a part of me you can clearly see
This fool for you in love
