shipwrecked fool
Mike Hauser Jan 2019
I am a shipwrecked fool don't you know
battered by the ocean of you
how could I let myself sink so deep
where the depth of you will forever be my keep

later down the road, they'll find my bones
next to the chest of Davey Jones
hand in grip, heart adrift
a shipwrecked fool with nothing left

Brain Scratching 101

Have you ever had a major itch
Deep inside your brain
Where your whole face does a Chubby Checkers twist
Driving you erratically down crazy lane

You need to find that special something
To cram far enough up your nose
And if you can't get to it that way
There's that hole just above the earlobe

I search around my place frantically
When I come across a paper clip
Bending it to the perfect size and length
So in my canal of choice it will fit

I slide it in as far as it will go
Which causes a sever twitching of the eye
My left foot starts to tingle
As I lose all feeling down my right side

Clearly that didn't work
So I search around some more
When I come across a #2 pencil
Feeling this is a major score

I use the end with the erasure
Don't want to break the lead off in my head
Everyone knows lead poisoning makes you stupid
And I am way far away from that!

So this time around I try the ear canal
When I wiggle it back and forth over a certain spot
My legs start to prance in a 70's disco dance
As I let out a rapid succession of barks

Any fool can clearly see
I need something long and sharp
Not a knife, I've never been that dumb in life
Now where's that old game of Lawn Darts

I search long and hard in the garage for the game
Then remember my wife threw it away
After the unfortunate incident with the neighbors
I never did care for that dog of theirs anyways

So I'm back to square one of my searching
When the broom handle catches my eye
It's a little wide so I get out my pliers
And stretch my nostrils to twice their normal size

I jam it in as far as I can
Giving it all that I have got
I scratch and scratch and laugh and laugh
I either just gave myself a lobotomy or hit the perfect spot
But what can I say either way it's okay
Just as long as the itching has stopped

Life's Pitch
Mike Hauser Jan 2019
With every pitch that's tossed
You have a choice
You could be less
Or you could be more

It's all in the catch
That's thrown your way
In how you handle it
In how it makes your day

You can take the control
Or let it control you
Go down with the ship
Or get up and do

Learn from mistakes
When playing the game
Not give up on it
Get up again and again

With every pitch
You have a choice
You could be less
Or you could be more

~Layers~
Mike Hauser Jan 2019
I'm giving God the go ahead
To pull off layers in my life
All the ones that gunk me up
I've accumulated over time

The first one that he pulls on
Hurts but it's my pride
All because I think that it's
The easiest to find

The next one that he yanks at
Is my stingy layer of self
The one that thinks about only me
And leaves out everyone else

While it hurts to lose these layers
They're ones I can do without
That's when I hear the small whisper
Making me wonder what God's found now

The one I'm holding tight to
As anyone can plainly see
The very one I hate to lose
That would be my layer of greed

When that painful episode
Is finally lying in the dust
Here's God with a knowing nod
Pulling at my lust

As he knows this layer sometimes
Gets itself confused with love
God struggles with nothing
And believe me my layers are mighty tough

He also takes the envy
And rips it in his hands
Replacing in my heart and head
I'm happy for what they have

With each layer that God peals
I feel a freer man
Why do I so long tightly hold on
To all of this mess I can

I see this year will be a year
Of God pealing layers off
I know in the end it will be a win
And well worth any cost

promises made
Mike Hauser Jan 2019
you may not remember
me now by name
or the promises made
on our wedding day

through the thick and the thin
to have and to hold
from the days of our youth
to the foothold of old

whatever is thrown
in our direction my love
it never will be
enough to break us up

even if you
forget who i am
a promise is a promise
and needs to be kept

through good times and bad
till death do us part
though appearances change
love is still where we are

memory may falter
and in time quickly fade
but i remember the alter
and the promises made
I've seen several family members succumb to memory loss over the last several years which is the reason for this and several poems I've written with this subject in mind...

for you & i
Mike Hauser Jan 2019
for you & i

have got me thinking
this moment in time
has nothing missing

when it comes to love
when it comes to us
when it comes to the place we belong

for you & i

are both the reason
we'll survive
this open season

when it comes to us
when it comes to love
we'll ride it all out in a poem

for you & i

are meant to be here
with open skies
to make the way clear

when it comes to love
when it comes to us
when it comes to how it is done

for you & i

A Poem I'm Going To Write
Mike Hauser Jan 2019
This poem
will certainly be a big hit
I'm throwing everything I've got
and more into it
All the bells all the whistles
all my poetic tricks
Rolling up my sleeves,
into my open palm I will spit

This poem I'm pulling
out all of the stops
Remove the plug at the bottom,
raise the roof at the top
Fill in the middle
with all that I've got
Blowing it all
on the entire lot

This poem will either
make me or break me
Lose me or save me,
I'm thinking maybe
They'll love me or hate me,
all want to date me
In Mardi Gras beads
they'll want to drape me

This poem will embarrass
all the other poems
Because this one poem
will have it all going on
From the time it's conceived
to the moment it's born
All other poems
will concede to it's throne

This poem may even
bring on the end
All the poets of today
will turn in their pens
They'll be too afraid
to write anything
As it will be the blue print
to how a poem is written

Now that last thoughts got me thinking
that it shouldn't be wrote
As it being the only poem
is a scary thought
And how this single poem
could yield so much power
I'd be crazy to set it free
to dispose and devour

All this poem could do
has really opened my eyes
So on second thought
I'm not going to write
I'll lock up that thought
shut the door tight
Another poem at this time
I'll just have to find...

This Poetic Road
Mike Hauser Jan 2019
This Poetic road I'm traveling on
Holding tight to the wheel of rhyme
With no way to know the direction, I'll go
Through the twists and the turns, the up and down climbs

This Poetic road filled with the words I sow
Deep in the potholes of life
Moving along with the turn signal on
Whether I'm going straight or moving left to the right

This Poetic road will always be home
Follow the white dotted line
Ending up more often than not back where I'm from
Holding tight to the wheel of rhyme

The Art Of Love...
Mike Hauser Jan 2019
The art of love...
Draws upon the heart
Paints the tender parts
Changes who you are

The art of love...
Hangs proudly
In life's gallery
For the world to see

The art of love...
Gets rave reviews
Colorful in hues
Brushstroke of truth

The art of love...
Quite's critic down
Uses every medium allowed
Can always wow a crowd

The art of love...
Always is the case
Once you've signed your name
You never are the same

Thinking Of You
Mike Hauser Jan 2019
Sitting here thinking
Which I often do
On the edge of this bed
Cluttered mind, cluttered room

I think of a thought
And that thought comes to you
More often than not
I follow through

So I pick up the phone
And give you a ring
When I hear your voice
I say here's the thing

I think about you
More often than not
And when I do
I think about love

As I'm sitting here thinking
On the edge of this bed
You are always the thought
That comes to my head

Makes No Difference
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
What I am
What I'm not
What I was
What I thought
What I had
What I lost
Makes no difference
If I don't know what

What I've given
What I've bought
What I'm missing
What I've got
What I do
What I don't
Makes no difference
If I don't know what

What I've fought
What all for naught
What I've found
What I've sought
What I've let go
What I've caught
Makes no difference
If I don't know what

~Mountain Climbing~
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
My daddy was a mountain climber
Cause life's a mountain all men must climb
From the foothills of adolescence
To the last days of our lives

My daddy always raised me
To do what I thought right
The lessons that my daddy taught
Have helped me throughout this life

He lived on mountain wisdom
And showed me in my youth much of the same
Said son don't spend all your days in the valley
Cause in the lowlands there's no gain

And boy don't take the path well worn
That's been cleared out all soft and smooth
Take the one with rocks and ledges
So you'll have something to hold on to

That's why today I'm a mountain climber
Cause life's a mountain all men must climb
From the foothills of adolescence
To the last days of our lives

She makes her way
to the edge of the ocean
She likes to dance
to the sound of the waves
Bringing to mind
summer emotions
Keeping her on
this side of sane

The stage is set
with surf and sand
Her curtain call
the rising sun
No better day
this side of heaven
Than when she dances
by the ocean

Me and you
And the rest of the crew
Spinning through space
On a ****** balloon

Filled to the brim
With the hot air of man
Knots and screws coming loose
Out on the fringe

Without a clue
Of who let us loose
Busting a move
On this ****** balloon

As we flip and we fly
Slide side to side
This way and that
All along for the ride

Ashes to ashes
Space dust to dust
How much is enough
Before this thing busts

If not now
I'm pretty sure soon
Putting an end to

there's a poet on the corner
rhyming out my name
knows of my adventures
and the games i play

pretty sure he's been here
all my wanting life
coming up with the what's
jotting down the why's

i know this poet that i see
is the one that is in me
whether or not i show it
asphalt beneath my feet

pounding of the pavement
stepping off the curb
however way i say it
i trip on the rhyming word

to those who care to listen
to those who have the ears
either near or distant
neither here nor there

as i open up my book
life's poetry in rhyme
listen as you take a look
i've been here all my life

a dim street light
hanging low

fed it well
heard the rhyme
it had to tell
of sad affairs
where no one cared
the day it left
those unaware
we became friends

The Day After Christmas
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
With the day after Christmas
We return to the normality
Of me not looking at you
And you not talking to me

With hands deep in our pockets
Holding tight the spare change
Where we don't loose what little we've got
Or give too much away

Where all that is seen
Is the blind destiny
As I climb over you
On the rung of what's in it for me

With the day after Christmas
We're back to where we were
Not trying to be
Such good boys and girls

Where a grudge I unwrap
And think bad about you
Wait a minute that
Was the day before too

Where we take peace on Earth
And good will towards men
And pack it away
For another year

Where the Government
Sends us back to the war
With no earthly idea
Of what we're fighting for

Where we don't listen
To the cries of the children
As all of this happens
The day after Christmas

~Dr. Dream
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
It's not the cough that has you off
Lay back relax you'll soon be seen
The fever you've fought
has to do with your thoughts
In today's realities

If you're looking for the cure de jour
He's got just the thing
As you slip into bed
he slides into your head
A visit from Dr. Dream

His prescriptions don't come in a bottle
For a pharmacy, there is no need
The only pop em if you've got em
to bring you back from rock bottom
Comes to you in your sleep

Stick out your tongue saying ahh sawing logs
While the good doctor takes a peek
In the back of your mind
where nightmares spend their time
Examined by Dr. Dream

As you toss and you turn in your never-ending search
Hoping one day to be free
From the thoughts in your head
that are best left unsaid
Spreading like some dreaded disease

You spend the night looking for answers
Hoping to find some relief
While the good doctors' bedside manners
increase the chances
A visit from Dr. Dream
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
What went through your mind, oh Wondrous Creator
When as baby Jesus you let out your first cry
Did you know at that moment you were the Savior
Of this fallen world and all of mankind

Did you recognize your mother Mary
And see her as your special child
Only you God at such tender a moment
Could give us your all at such tender a time

Did your first sight at creation astound you
As you looked through the blur of finite
From the beginning, you'd always seen clearly
In the presence of your Fathers light

Did the warmth of God's Spirit surround you
As the December chill settled over the land
Were you holding the hand of the Father
In the transition from Son of God to Son of Man

When you heard the first bleat of the lambs
Were your thoughts on being the shepherd of man
That would lead all those gone astray
Did you already know of that day

These are questions that I tend to ponder
On the greatest gift, the world's ever known
I will praise you for all of the wonders
The first Christmas that your love, my Savior was born
Merry Christmas my friends!

Time To Kill
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
Come what will come what may
I often hear others say
They must not have much going on
When I think of me is there something wrong

Always busy as I can be
Like a hungry ****** in search of the next tree
I need to pull up the stakes on my demands
Stop swimming in this lake that I have ******

Rectify all of my mistakes
Buy my weapon of choice whatever make
Shoot out all the lights at will
In my search for time to ****

I might even buy myself a boat
Whatever it takes to keep afloat
Sail from here to wherever is there
And wherever that is I will not care

Or I might just stay in one place
Pull out a hammock and call it a day
Make a down payment on my mind getting lost
Where if I think of something it'll be nothing at all

I'll do all this and more before it's too late
Cook up a scheme then eat the cake
Ready and waiting to pay the bill
In my search for time to ****

The Shove
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
There are things that lead a man to drink
One being to much time on his hands to think
Which leads him to the bottles brink
Before he even has a clue

The what if's and what could have been's
Has never been this mans best friend
With no relaxing in the thieves den
All it can do is steal from you

So pull up a stool or a liars chair
In the process of hurriedly getting nowhere
In the drowning thick air of nobody cares
It gets hard to move

In what should have been diamonds and such
Is no more now than bent tin and rust
With the push of life being more like a shove
To the bitter side of youth

As I order up another round
For the sorry likes of this one man crowd
Raising a toast to all my doubts
That I'll somehow make it through

There are things that lead a man to drink
One being the pull of his past deeds
As the thought of it all takes its leave
As he steps off of the stool...

*God Don't Make Ugly Girls*
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
From the very moment that all of this started
The skies opened up the Red sea it parted
God took a rib from out of the man
And that is when all of the fun began

God don't make ugly girls
From beauty without to beauty within
God don't make ugly girls
And it's been that way from the beginning

He certainly had it right with Cleopatra
A beauty Queen, Royalty flattered
As men were fighting to win over her love
God in His wisdom from up above

Knows that he don't make ugly girls
From beauty within to beauty without
God don't make ugly girls
With that there is never a doubt

Mother Teresa in all of her glory
Did what was asked of the Father in her selfless story
Shinning a light for all to see
Giving her all for downtrodden humanity

Cause God don't make ugly girls
Never even tried it out cause he doesn't know how
God don't make ugly girls
From their beauty within to their beauty without

Showing throughout history
The beauty of woman is here to please
Truly a beauty to behold
From the glamour of young to the wrinkle of old

God don't make ugly girls
The beauty within you can't do without
God don't make ugly girls
And that my friend is what I'm talking about

~Pure Southern Girl~
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
She's a pure Southern girl
Fried deep in hospitality
Beautiful as a magnolia bloom
Standing tall in majesty

Talks with a sweet syrupy drawl
As cane sugar seeps from her pores
Cute as a button and that is not all
Picture perfect as the girl next door

Honeysuckle ripe on the vine
More than enough sweet to fill your needs
Chasing fireflies in the middle of flight
Giving off just enough light to keep you intrigued

She's a pure Southern girl
Stands out in a crowd
Laughs out loud so easily
She'll give you the time and make you her world

She loves passing the time
On a green mountainside or a tan sunny beach
Any place in life suits her just fine
As long as it's down South within her Southern charms reach

With a flip of the coin, she gives you a choice
And she'll be the one you choose
A pure Southern girl is all that she is
And all that she'll ever do

the idea of love
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
i had no idea what love was
until it disappeared
or the joyful sound it made
until silence was all that i could hear
or the beauty that it held
in a single tear
i had no idea what love was
until love disappeared

i had no idea what love would take
until it was gone
took apart this wanting heart
left behind this weary soul
would i have let it get this far
if only i had known
i had no idea what love would take
until love was gone

What We Do
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
We used to laugh
More than we cried
Naturally
No need to find
A justful cause
Or reason why
It's just what we would do

We used to love
More than we'd hate
Find the good
In everyday
For our love
To give away
It's just what we would do

But over time
What we would find
Would be the thoughts
That cross our minds
We lost the love
Which makes us cry
It's just what we do

I'm In Love
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
Who can say
That I'm to blame
For loving the way
She calls my name

Could it be
I've reached the peak
Of ecstasy
When she kisses me

Draw out the plans
Strike up the band
Don't want to land
When she holds my hand

Paradise
Is what I find
Every time
I gaze in her eyes

I fall in deep
Bounds and leaps
Into her sea
When she looks back at me

No, if's and's or but's
She's the one
Thank you very much
I'm in love

~Amelia Earhart~
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
She started off in Kansas
Where dreamers often do
But this child with mind on flight
Never owned a pair of ruby shoes

Spending days out in the fields
Underneath the bluest skies
Twirling round in circles
Arms out open wide

With nothing there to hold her down
Nothing to cling to
But the desire to take life higher
Than the eager kite she flew

~Amelia Earhart~
A girl born to spread her wings

With mind set to wonder
She set her mind to stone
Took all that life would hand her
Never tossed the dog a bone

Lived this side of the edge
Of the yes I can
Knew a woman could do most anything
Attempted by a man

Amelia still fly's to this day
With gravity no longer in her way
She dreamed high and touched the sky
Leaving the world in her wake

...and the locust came
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
Conditions were fought
As we planted our hearts
In righteousness
Then prayed for rain

But the desires of this world
Sowed weeds in our souls
Then took its toll
When the locust came

...and the locust came
with a hunger unguarded
the goodness we sought
to swallow it whole

...and the locust came
in record numbers
rolling like thunder
stunting our growth

Daily we're met
By the plans of man
We readily accept
But don't dare take the blame

Then wonder at
The troubles we have
Till there's nothing left
When the locust came

...and the locust came
in turmoil and emotion
first went the mind
the heart soon followed

...and the locust came
slipping and sliding
while we weren't watching
through the backdoor

Goodbye, Goodbye
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
This may not sound quite right
But I find I've made up my mind
After all of this time
To say goodbye to goodbye

Goodbye only makes me sad
When losing the friends that I have
When it's their turn to come up to bat
When they have no time left

Goodbye is too cruel a word
Goodbye is best if it's left unheard
Being that there is no cure
When goodbye occurs

And that is exactly why
After all of this time I find
I've made up my mind
To say goodbye to goodbye

I'm down on my hands and knees
You can bet, no secret kept
Crawling back to you again

It's so hard to run away
When all I do is run in place
Never able to escape
Crawling back to you each day

I accept you're in my head
Clinging till there's nothing left
One way street, read the signs
Crawling back with you in mind

I need a flame of different light
A different frame of you in mind
All that you have put me through
Crawling back again to you

After all this time you'd think I'd know
How to stand up on my own
And yet with all that being said
Crawling back is all I have

Falling In Love With You
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
Certainly didn't see it coming
This feeling so numb
But the soft spot of my heart
Beat out that it's true

Perfect in its timing
The itch of the reminding
Give me just a minute
While I fall in love with you

Never ever planed
The way time sifts its sand
*****-nilly in its wonder
Yet steeped deep in the truth

Nothing is more real
Heading head over heals
Give me a sec to catch my breath
While I fall in love with you

Shoulder rubbing shoulder
Lovers soon uncovered
Coming to this junction
In the way, we move

Here is where I find
The bleeding out of time
Makes it all worthwhile
While I fall in love with you

The Working Man
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
There's a laboring force
That runs out its course
Through men that I know
Who are worked to the bone

With fingers that bleed
To satisfy hungers need
From the calloused hands
Of the working man

Bringing to light
From morning to night
Collars of blue
Work's all they do

The working man
Making his plans
Of the things that he can't
While dreaming he can

With the breaking of backs
Over what all they lack
Life is nothing but hard
In the labor yard

Where far less is saved
In the give away
Taking its toll
On both young and old

With the showing of hands
Those living in debt
More often than not
Is the working man's lot

With the dreams they hold
That maybe one day
They'll have enough saved
To pay for their grave

The Man Who Doesn't Care
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
Last trip he jumped ship
Off life's ocean liner
Asking you what's that got to do
With the price of tea in China

Uninspired he grew tired
Of the massive here and there
Another sign of the times
With the man who doesn't care

Taking all he's given
In opinions over time
Says a fool will only do
Enough to get by

According to the warning
In the buyer beware
Much the same in what you give away
The man who doesn't care

No need to borrow sorrow
In these days of make believe
Easily seen within reach
As they hand it out for free

Time is wasted in the making
If all you do is stop and stare
That's why each day he goes the way
Of the man who doesn't care

Monty's Measuring Tape
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
From the moment they gave him the measuring tape
That's the second Monty started to measure away
Measuring this and measuring that
From the round side of rings to the square side of flat

He measured the span on the wings of a fly
The knees of the bees as they buzzed him by
He measured the toot from the sound of a flute
And the beat of a drum, Monty measured that too

He measured the space between space and time
So there were no mistakes he measured it in the light
Pulled the tail of a lion to measure its roar
The teeth on a shark but only up to row four

Monty measured the clowns from the circus in town
With a wink and a nod, the upside of down
He measured the dinner his mom sat on his plate
Then for dessert, he measured the cake

The last thing Monty did before he went to bed
Was to measure the pillow where he laid his head
And in no time at all, Monty was fast asleep
Where in between snores he measured his dreams

I met a man in a playful tune
Who had a thought I thought I knew
He said to me goo goo g'joob
Does anything sound more real to you

We were out standing in a field
With fresh strawberries dancing at our heels
In a moment a bit too surreal
Continue on Bungalow Bill

We moved past a four-man line
As we slipped into dream #9
Being there for the benefit of Mr. Kite
When Lucy and her diamonds fell from the sky

A day in the life left tragically
Our mystery tour on a yellow submarine
The revolution of love has now left the building
In a puddle of memories out on the street

She held your hand to comfort you
The color of love now the color of blue
Till the bitter end, you sang passion true
Goodbye to you Goo goo g'joob...

This is definitely a repost that I will continue until the day I die. I remember the exact spot I was standing when I heard the news...And the world cried.

Inside Frown
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
You might think that I'm happy
All of the time
But inside my smile
Is upside down
Otherwise, you wouldn't
Want me around
If all you ever saw
Was a continuous frown
I guess that's why
I'm always clowning around
Not wanting others to see
Me feeling down
It's the only way I can think
To keep you around
On the outside a smile
On the inside a frown

My Whatchamacallit
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
Flabbergasted at my findings
Drooling slightly over luck
Hard to explain how my life has changed
Now the proud owner of a Whatchamacallit

It came with all the accessories
All the whistles plus the bells
Lucky I grabbed it when I did
You know how fast those things fly off the shelf

Double wrapped in heavy plastic
Sealed up tight for safeties sake
To keep from the hands of those not in the know
Plus less chance of escape

Though Whatchamacallit's aren't dangerous
They are mischievous all the same
Far be it for me to set mine free
And be the one to blame

So I keep it on a leash
Everytime that I go out
Even put it in my pocket
If I'm roaming a big crowd

But believe you me if it's me you see
Out someday on the street
I have my Whatchamacallit
Somewhere close to me

The Vow
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
I've known him all my life
And still do now he's gone
Leaving behind his kids and wife
Memories that live on

I watched him from the younger side
Through the struggles and the strife
Never knowing they were there
As he never once broke his stride

I strive to be like him
In stature to be found
Holding tight to his beliefs
Because he made a vow

Never dwelt on could have been's
Or if only I had done's
Taking what was thrown at him
Be it treasure or be it mud

He knew he served a purpose
And his purpose was his word
Always being first us
Anything less was unheard

Gone too many years
Now for me to count
But through the laughter, joy, and tears
I'm glad he kept his vow

Daily thankful that is something
He passed along to me
A promise made a promise kept
To my own family

As I do battle in the thick and thin
That is often thrown my way
Remembering my time with him
And the purpose he displayed

Although it's not always easy
I'm sure that too he often found
But like the man before me
I also made a vow

People are Crazy
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
People are loopy
People ain't right
Inside of their heads
Out of their minds

People are nutty
Loco coco bean
Imaginary buddies
Putty for brains

People are batty
Fruit loops that fly
Come in different colors
Confetti minds

People are special
They say with a wink
Jumped the train trestle
Over the brink

Pick one or the other
No answer is wrong
It's all the above
When people are off

Sadness In Your Smile
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
Though I don't know you at all
There's a sadness in your smile
With lipstick of the color blue
That makes me wonder what you're going through

There's a slight turn to your lips
If you blink that you could miss
Making it look like
You're about to change your mind

But a sadness that permeates
Is the hardest to erase
And if you're not careful then it might
Move up to your eyes

And though you I don't know
Or what makes your garden grow
It still makes my heart want to melt
Seeing the sadness in your smile

~Poets In A Boat~
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
We are all poets
In the same boat
The reason we write
Just to stay afloat
There's no other reason
Of that, I know
For us as poets
To stay afloat

So draw the anchor
Hoist the sail
We'll all rhyme our way
Clear outta here
Sailing the pantoum oceans
On sonnet seas
Casting our lot
In the poetic breeze

Steering riddling rudders
Across verses in waves
Until the very last day
We're made to walk the plank
As we are all poets
In the same boat
Trying our best
Just to stay afloat
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
Life goes off like a cherry bomb
Blows itself up to kingdom come
Lends itself to display
Some of the things you can not change

Shows you all that it can do
In the old with a touch of new
And for whom the bell tolls
Parts of life you can't control

Life will open itself up
With bangs and bruises nicks and cuts
It's not always what you make
But in the learning from mistakes

If there's anyway or anyhow
Find a corner on which to turn around
But watch the gutter in its flow
Parts of life you can't control

Life at times will draw the line
In fluorescent bright or black and white
You can read into it, year model make
Have your say at the turn of the page

Live it out as if in a dream
What you find to try and keep
Until you hit that bump in the road
Parts of life you can't control

I want to live in a Norman Rockwell painting
Where I'm surrounded by the simple times
If you don't know what I mean let me explain it
It consists of front porch swings and Mom's apple pie

Sunday afternoons in Grandma's kitchen
Lazy fishing days down by the lake
Or in a Soda Shop drinking Chocolate Malts with cherries on top
As I while away the day Norman's way

Riding bikes down hills the whole time laughing
Cowboys, Indians, and Pirates all in one day
With sunsets painted red and no strangers met
No secrets kept to wanna give away

Life on parade the American way
Pride in your family and friends
Helping each other no matter race, creed, or color
Starting each meal out with an amen

Picnics at the park, hot dogs and gaming
Potato sack and three-legged racing
Nothing like today's grind taxing both the heart and mind
Which to me desperately needs replacing
With life in a Norman Rockwell painting

Merry Christmas
Mike Hauser Dec 2018
I wish all hearts could clearly see
The season that's upon us
Is not just for those who do believe
In the God above who loves us

But for the world in general
Celebrating what he left us
The perfect gift of himself
Knowing only he could save us

Let the heart of man gather in
This Christmas jubilation
Where the ****** birth would change the course
Of a world in need of saving

As we gather here this time of year
To celebrate the one who frees us
Above all else from ourselves
In the birth of the Lord Jesus

So Merry Christmas one and all
The season now upon us
Not just for those who do believe
From the God above who loves us

~Beauty~
Mike Hauser Nov 2018
Every eye sees beauty differently
Every tongue has a different way to speak
As our minds serve time where they are at
On the gifts so neatly wrapped
Open hands are made to give freely

We all walk a different path in life
That doesn't mean we're not on the same side
Whatever side you are own
Trying your best to head North
Hoping for that beauty to find

That we all see so differently
As our tongues confess what our minds believe
When all that really matters
Is our love for one another
That is life's true beauty
Mike Hauser Nov 2018
I have yet to tell myself the truth
that there no longer is a me
happily
connected to a you

Cause I'm not sure I could handle it
or if I would survive
when I find
you called it quits

So I'll continue to live out the lie
with what is left
of the dreams I had
at the time that all was right

That is why when it comes to you
I have yet to tell myself the truth
that when it comes to me
there no longer is a you

The Creek Is Going To Rise
Mike Hauser Nov 2018
We either know or else we guess
Hope for more but none the less
Hold the door for the caress
Shut it tight before the mess

Hide-and-seek hoping to find
Clear as day dark as night
Find the reason in the rhyme
Still the creek is going to rise

We take both the highs and lows
Whichever way the warm wind blows
However fast the river flows
First is last within the soul

Love and light we draw the line
What is yours and what is mine
Always try to do what's right
Still the creek is going to rise

Show the mess for what it is
Pucker up the Judas lips
More of that and less of this
Nervousness before the kiss

Spreading out the winter Rye
Grass is greener on the other side
I've got yours and you've got mine
Still the creek is going to rise

Rambling Boy
Mike Hauser Nov 2018
Rambling Boy
Where you been
Fell down hard
Got up again

No telling now
Where you have gone
In your quest
To ramble on

Moving on
From coast to coast
Hitting highs
Missing lows

Adventure seems
To know your name
Here one minute
Then gone again

Tried your best
To hold the line
Found that to be
A waste of time

Rambling Boy
Has the need
Above it all
To be free

Free from the bricks
That have been laid
Down along
Lifes motorway

Stepping to
A different beat
Shaking dust
Off of his feet

Nothing settles
Where he goes
As Rambling Boy
Rambles on
