What I really need right now is a purpose,
before my body gets old and turns to dust,
What I really need right now is a direction,
Somewhere I go and learn and practice and become an epitome of perfection,
What I really need right now is a guiding mentor,
Someone who...

At this moment she enters the room and looks over my shoulder.
She smells of soap, her hair still wet.
"You want a purpose...go make coffee for me darling.
You want directions...go out your door and take a left for the kitchen.
No mentor...all you get is a princess."
She makes me forget.
She makes me smile.
It's worth it.

Half cut teens dressed in high street dreams
stand and survey the beach,
combing it for male shells, to clarify:
guys who think crucifix tattoos on their lower leg will save them from hell.

A mother whose job it is to look after surfboard and parasol,
yes you the mother looking my way,
you should ditch the marriage and get on the road,
hug the coast with tire squeals,
hug men with body sacrificing screams in
cheap French roadside hotels that don’t clean their bathrooms that well.

Girlfriend left to sit the sun out whilst boyfriend joins husbands in the surf,
reads but really she’s breathing,
passing the hours and folding over page corners,
don’t let him see that you don’t love him.

Tablet kids who watch the sea on screen, in apps,
when behind them is a torrent of live data swells and boils
causing swimmers to tumble and coil up close to the sea bed,
some parents, increasingly the same,
forgetting why they came to the coast in the first place.

Summer night, moon and her white cloud
frolic on the star spangled bed
You come to me, flames of passion lighting both eyes,
moon incarnate, why your lips uncontrollably tremble?
Cats galore here in our home
Crawling kittens in their tow
Puppies in our rooms roam
We don’t need anywhere to go.
My wife she proudly hosts
Boasts of her budgies many
Now she has added two parrots
We are in glorious company.
The bulbuls are kind to stay outside
But they too have to be hand fed
The mynas in us lovingly confide
Our rabbits love to be on bed.
She says she needs a few hens
That in the backyard would freely roam
I know you don’t see any gains
In having a zoo in our home!
I carry you in my heart
But you are far away
Sometimes though love lasts
It’s so you don’t stay.
Never erased for you my thirsts
Though you are far away
Why it’s so that love lasts
Though you don’t stay.
I wish it happens one day
I wake up and you aren’t in my head
But your thought doesn’t go away
For that’s how love is made.
