The people folded their hands
Mesmerized by the fire
But soon enough,
Their attention was drawn away
By weather and trivial matters
Of today

The silver sword in her eyes, grazed my heart,
jolted, I tried to fend, for a few moments,
then realized, "neither of us is a hunter or hunted, each one is for the other;
*Love is the third presence, we should sail safe, in this boat, with our skills"

Drunk as drunk on turpentine
From your open kisses,
Your wet body wedged
Between my wet body and the strake
Of our boat that is made of flowers,
Feasted, we guide it - our fingers
Like tallows adorned with yellow metal -
Over the sky's hot rim,
The day's last breath in our sails.

Pinned by the sun between solstice
And equinox, drowsy and tangled together
We drifted for months and woke
With the bitter taste of land on our lips,
Eyelids all sticky, and we longed for lime
And the sound of a rope
Lowering a bucket down its well. Then,
We came by night to the Fortunate Isles,
And lay like fish
Under the net of our kisses.
Sometimes I watch
the man in the benign pastel shirt
and the drab khakis
with the receding hairline
and the thick glasses
cross the street
with a package in his arms;

And I think to myself,
"There goes a good dad,
mild mannered, loving -
trying to make his way
in this savage world."

Then, almost instantaneously,
the doubt creeps in:
"Or, he could be a monster,
who beats his kids,
or his wife,
or sets fire to homes,
or has adolescent prisoners in his basement."

From then on I question everyone I see.

That lovable looking old lady
with her sun hat
and disabled parking pass
might shout racist obscenities
from her balcony
at poor black kids
playing in the park across the street.

The clean-cut young man
in the shirt and tie
with the papers in his hands
may spend his weekends
filling envelopes with anthrax spores -
one for each name on his list.

I can no longer see
the father whose arrival from work
is anticipated by a loving family,
or the grandmother who delights in
handing out the most Halloween candy
to every kid in the neighborhood,
or the industrious young professional
striving to make a meaningful contribution
to society.

I wonder if the darkness I see in them
is a magnified reflection
of the darkness I know
that lurks inside of me.

Im sitting on the edge of a life I used to lead,
all I want is her hand to lead me free.
I am not sure, I do not know
But I believe in love so its time to go
Into the dark and I must say its an aweful lot like the month of may
When the hands keep reaching
And the fingers keep grabbing
All I did was let them keep stabbing
I am not strong, mind is weak
And my body soft
Iv naught to speak
But of my love,  im lion atg heart
Her hands in mine, iv learned the art
Of life and love who can say
What will be at the end of days?
But of my soul, and by my breath
I will love her until my death

Now I owe my aunt.

And yes, you are an *******.
I guess we both are.

It's not like I got a lot.
And now I owe more.

I have been too long from love
which is warm sand 'tween
my toes, the sun, and the shore
'gainst the infinite murmur
is slender, full, and thick with
people and people and people

skins many some golden others
pale as snow, but not that let's
recall your short dark and olive

           (hair;body)

teeth imperfect perfect and above
splayed the wide umber of thy nose
and above pierced twin pools of jade
(

           and below)

lean firm
distilled youth easy
******* effortless
stomach soft marvelous

(now from sand up)

feet pleasing colours
toes chips
calves diamonds
on bones
thighs unmerciful
and inward folding
hungrily 'tween they

a small stubble

and

heaven

He spoke and was king. The barns were full of hay
and we rested in the shade of the tall stone walls.
He taught me to sleep. in the Library we slept perfectly among the silent books
He taught me to read the shapes of letters

He told me where I could find you
and how to read the shape of your lips
She asked me in the cold night air
If I would read to her on the marble steps

I spend the afternoons asleep on the cool river bank
Drawing stories in the dirt
Imagining distant lands in which-
We walk through overgrown ruins and speak to statues that sing and dance

I am alone again. It's time to clean out the dark corners of my mind
And sweep the pieces together. They glitter below the naked light bulb
This was the poem I began in haste
this is the line I wish to replace
The feelings I feel are true
A question myself as I walk
How I dream of lying next to you-
I want to share this experience
This pinpoint in (time) in which we were both born
on the precipice of something great
on the edge of decisions
all I know is that i feel the warmth of sun when you look at me
When you speak I am whole and I linger at each word

Do not deny me!
Do not deny this love
I am many things and a liar

But you are present in my heart
and your moments in time and space
Can be prepared on an x and y axis

and there

that point where space and time curve together as two lovers
I died and when I opened my eyes to meet my maker
I was lying next to you on the grass
Because you dragged me to the drive in

and I begged for your neck
and for the softness of your eyes

You are a thorn in my soul
I cannot remove/ Let me sleep next to you
Let me sleep next to you
Let me breathe the same air you breathe
Or i fear I must deny my own soul
