I can't sleep at night
I am such a sorry plight
You stole away my heart
And you soon had to depart
My will to live crumbled apart
My soul you understood by heart

The fates three must have been jealous
For your acquisition they were rather zealous
Fairytale endings are but lies
In reality they never do come by

I don't know how to write happy poems
because I don't really believe in them.
I thought angst would die with adolescence,
but alas I can still feel its cold dint.

Perhaps like virginity this goes too;
no longer a creep standing idly by.
Plastic smiles taped to our cardboard faces
and yours alone I felt the need to prise.

That's okay, because the teenaged rosebud
that we claim to be so very unique
is beginning to wither, can't you see?
And now it's the thorns society seeks.

So look out over yonder cityscape.
Your mask shall be shed only by the moon.
Until then, a cartographer of love;
yours that is, we'll still pathetically swoon.

With a simple glance at the monster
Icy chills are sent down my spine
And my mind goes back to the eleven-year-old mind I once had
Hurt and confused
By the words that pour out of the monster's mouth
Each one causing a permanent scar on my body
That not even all of the therapists I've been through can fix

The only thing I can't figure out
Is why
Not why it said all of the awful things it did
But why I believed them

I allowed myself to believe anything that came from the monster's mouth
Like a child believes their parents
About Santa Claus
Or the tooth fairy

And just like that child
I grew out of the monster's lies

I have a purpose
I keep trying to tell myself
Now believing a whole new sort of lie
For the monster's lies
are now my truth

art is the function for my pain
and through function I find meaning
and through meaning I find understanding
and through understanding I find acceptance
and through acceptance I am healed

Drink one
My eyes grow heavy
I sit in a fold out chair
In the corner of the living room

Drink two
I zone out
To the sound of the rest of my family getting riled up about who knows what
I want to join in
But then again
I don't

Drink three
Things start to get fuzzy
My words slur
I decide to join in after all

Drink four
It's probably a bad idea
To say whatever comes to mind
Laying on the bathroom floor

Drink five
This was supposed to be fun
Not a nightmare
My sister cries into my cousin's arms
As I laugh to myself

*Blackout
No I'm not
I'm not okay
See through my lies
Through my strong facade, disguise

"I'm tired or bored"
"No I'm just thinking"
I am so tired
And I am thinking

Of terrible thoughts
Of nasty words
My world is spinning
And the depression is winning

My hand shakes as I
Add another cut
To my thigh, where no one
Can see how I'm just done

Done with life
With the so called friends
I'm done putting on a face
So I don't leave a residue, any trace

Of sticky, sour sadness
Anywhere near your happiness
I'm done saying I'm okay
That it's just the left overs of a long day

I'm tired of lies spilling so easily
From my tainted mouth
I'm tired of breathing
And weeping

I'm tired of being lonely
Of nights spent crying in bed
I'm tired of every one believing
Of me so easily deceiving

I'm tired of cutting
But I just can't ******* stop
I'm tired of a lot of things
And what life has next to dish up

So yes
"Oh I'm just tired"
Tired of living
