A nighttime trek in a '63 Ford Falcon
Following UFO's in the Summer sky
Connecting stars with sleepy brown eyes
Longing for the lights of Atlanta ,
lost in AM radio
Streetlights flickering , exhaustion lingering
with boyish , twilight trickery* ...

Sunday eve , feasting on 'Shepherds pie' , starry transmissions from a changing , churning southern sky ... Steeped black tea carried on the winds of tempestuous July , quietly lost in the birth of twilight
The juvenile , search light , embellished night , curious remaining songbirds
and front porch lovers
Tree frog , Katydid sonatas , apropos of the Georgia summer* ..

Georgia Sun relaxes in the fifth house
Hummers circle Florida sky from my shaded chaise
Blue Jays and Brown Thrashers lounge the
ripened Fig Trees , shadows walk the vegetable
gardens , nightshades ardent for cool , rainy reprieve
Crows muster high atop centurion Oaks
Bluebirds and Sparrows work the grass like -
two old time blokes as the ice melts away in -
a frosty *** and Coke* ......

Last night I heard the ocean
Serenade the moon
A song sung on lips of salty waves
Accompanied by the breath of
Soprano winds
A song of cerulean nights
And silver clouds
That crescendos with every
Crash of endless tides
And sounds like the cleansing
Of the Earth
Shining vistas quelled by encroaching -
onyx pall
Rain filled mementos of a confused May
Sky blue wild flowers decorating red loam -
banks , a lonely Heron stands watch o'er -
storm filled , uncertain dominion ranks
Brown leaves become sailboats on laden creeks
Matted pastures , thunders raucous laughter
Rainy songs 'neath umbrella hardwood trees ,
mud puddle looking glass , Box turtle paradise
Twinkling brush , continuous wildlife theater in kudzu terrariums Salamanders , snails and musical tree frogs preside over the misty afternoon stage

The enraptured nape of sienna grassland
in contrast with the edge of burgundy , blanket
hinterlands
The rebirth of Summer saturation , sunlight
electricity o'er the conductive Earth
Bellicose magpies , heated Jays
Wary Does , taciturn Wrens and sitting Hens
Mother Bluebird sails the open field ,
yearning the increase of the Spring day yield
Morning Robin chortle to the first sunbeam
Woodpecker laughter by the clear , casual stream

Love first appears as you
window shop the quiet streets of
Hogansville , Georgia with a friend , quite
convinced your on the Avenue Montaigne in Paris , France ...

Hogansville is a beautiful Georgia town 65 miles southwest of Atlanta
Children dash for mother on picture postcard
afternoons
Crossing guards whistle instructions to -
Friday drivers on the move
Friends wave goodbye from the big yellow bus
Dogs act confused over the afternoon rush
Basketball and hopscotch take over the streets ,
soda pop and candy , little league athletes
Friday night football , Saturday mornings at the mall
Movies in the early afternoon , teenagers 'hanging out' at the game room , waiting for their ride home ..
Late night phone calls by the light of the Moon ..

The three o'clock shift empties , fills the parking lot
Factory people heading for cars , some on foot
The war is over , no ennobled cause of freedom  -                                           fought for in the textile mill , no bastion of democracy  on a hill
Shadows facing the ground , economic yellow lights ,
security guards waving goodbye
Headlight illuminated , neighborhood dogs running fence lines
Stopping for milk , beer and bread , hometown newsprint
Watching utilities .. Paying rent ..
Another quiet Dalton evening , gone ..

Braying marsh hounds of the trembling earth
Thickened pools of black reserve -
retained by copper red blushing , post painterly-
abstracted horizons
The boisterous quagmire dims with-
the passing of Heavens Lamp
Agitated waterbirds swarm to available-
lucidity
Waning apprehension ensues ...

I yearn for latter-day retreat along the reverent hallways of the South River hollows
Along dewberry arbors , beside the Walnut Tree light encrypted fallows
To afternoon Black Angus calling the day to close
For silhouetted properties atop lavender valleys , gravel driveways meandering back to home
The high Moons certain visage reflecting across the olive waters , country lanes splitting evergreen forest ..
