In fallow field
   Where corn once grew
I chanced upon
   An old mule shoe
I pondered on
   The many miles
The shoe had plod
   In mulish style

In river bed
   Now dry as bone
I came upon
   A worn millstone
Wondered aloud
   The wagons full
Of new milled corn
   The mule had pulled

In old grey barn
   Within a stall
I found these words
   Carved on the wall
George Washington
   Once slept here
Best **** mule
   From far and near

She came to us on wings of Spring
Of Marian the birds did sing
Her cat-nipped tails tells tales
Do make hearts swell
And to her a sweet refrain
Happy Birthday, Marian

Happy Birthday, Marian; and many, many more.

My poems today decided
They'd grown tired of my rhyme and verse
All at the same time, purchasing Samsonite
They took a trip across the universe

Stopping by other sites before the flight
Of poems they converse with day to day
Who'd also tired of their poets pen
And in them had grown dismayed

Then it was off to a cafe along the Milky Way
For dinner and a show
Afterwards took in some late night Saturn dancing
With a few sonnet's that they know

Spent a day catching rays on Mercury
Skied the Alps of Neptune
Drove bumper cars on the planet Mars
Relieving dreams of youth

Later a stroll along Jupiter's shore
Skipping rocks off it's many moons
Thinking they would have left years ago
If they had known there was so much to do

Out of all their seasoned travels
They have yet but one regret
And that being, they might be missed
Because they're never coming back

i could paint a hundred sunsets
and the sum of them would not equal a fraction of how glorious yours are.
i could draw a thousand seas
and the most beautiful of them would not mirror Your majesty.
i could sing a million songs
and Your voice would be sweeter than any of them.
i could love You with my heart, mind, and soul
and i wouldn't love You as much as You love me.
take me to the edge of oblivion,
promise me your empty lies.

sweet ecstacy,
you take me to the edge of madness.

I have been here time and time again,
I always trust you with my heart.

In this brief moment of sanity,
I choose the mundane reality of my life
with promises of joys and pains.

There is a quiet transcendent ecstasy
in a life that leads to wholeness.

Twinkle twinkle little fish,
How sad you look in my dish.
You've ignored my warning so
Now I'll never let you go.
Can't you tell my heart is pure?
Of you I have the utmost sure.
Your bones I'll bury close to here
So everyday your ghost is near,
For I'm a cat and you're a fish
That ended up right in my dish.

The waning hours
Asleep in time
A dream in rhyme
Desert sublime
So says the moon
So setting soon
Upon the dunes
Cactus flowers

this one girl...
is living out the dream
this one girl...
has no clue of what that means

this one girl...
says i am woman, hear me roar
this one girl...
has never been that sure

this one girl...
grabs the reins and holds on tight
this one girl...
pulls the shades down on her life

this one girl...
brings it all to where she's at
this one girl...
has spent all she's ever had

this one girl...
dances underneath the moon
this one girl...
doesn't care to play the tune*

this one girl...
knows where her fortunes at
this one girl...
*can't remember when it left

this is a portrait of a painter painting  a duck,
and as an honest man, i must disclaim
i am no painter, no wordsmith, not even a back-alley beautician
or smoker drawing letters in the air.
i'm a man, a not short nor tall nor distinctive in any other way
utterly invisible. however, as an honest man, i need to say
you are the sole, indescribable, incredible wonder of this park.

you're tall, i think, slim like the long-stemmed brushes you balance between your fingers,
and i think i hear you sing
as you paint that duck, that undistinctive, ordinary,
incredibly lucky duck.
i don't think it knows how lucky it is to have your gaze,
to be captured, immortalized, in your clever fingers.
it quacks off-beat and without thought, and i think,
"for shame, duck, bad on you"
because even someone as naturally invisible as me
knows when to appreciate a spotlight.
to be continued, probably :)

Pirates Cove

Water wives live sheltered lives
Amongst the coves where pirates rove

Daily catch is makers match
Where red hot stoves hide fresh baked loaves

Water men are thick and thin
So often strove where shipmates hove

Water child is often wild
The treasure trove where pirates roved
