When I gave you your heart back

You claimed it didn't fit right anymore
You claimed it didn't feel like it used to

Now I understand what you meant.

If an easy rain
would make the rocks slippery,
he would hold my hand.

I ask him why hes so sweet
I ask him why he constantly says "i love you"
I ask him why he always looks into my eyes.
I ask him why he always holds my hand
I ask him "Why me?"

he chuckles, takes my hand, looks into my eyes
and with words so sweet he whispers
"Cant you see, i love you"

Black and white,

Only at first sight.

I play carefully,
fingers gliding
all ways cautious not to strike the wrong note.

Small steps change everything.
Small steps make everything.

You didn't come with a map to follow,
a melody that would sing me home.

So, I follow my heart.
I follow what you whisper to me,
the gentle hush.

Tension tugs with the tight twist of my fingers.

You ease me back, untangling my tight thoughts.

Time is always changing because we both know its
nothing
and
Everything
all the same.

I play by ear, full of fear that i'll forget our song.

Without you,
Im silent.
Without me,
you are just black and white.

Like a rock
Watching the water fall
I can only lay
Like the sand
Watching the ocean surge
I can only erode
Like an island
Watching a hurricane approach
I can only survive
Like a building
Watching the earth move
I can only hope
Like a tree
Waiting for the gale
I can only bend
Like a bank
Watching the river overflow
I can only stand
Like a forest
Watching the fire
I can only burn
Like a deer
Watching a tiger run
I can only die
Like a slave
Watching the whip
I can only bleed
Like a problem
With only bad choices
I can only lose
Like a baby
Without a mother
I can only cry
Like a Father
Without his children
I can only wait

The age of awakening
When a boy becomes a man
No longer just listening
He questions who holds his hand
A revelation of life
His mind now his own
He will continue to search
His thoughts no longer on loan
From the world of eternal persuasion
The message he receives a ruse
God is this; Your country that
The truth has been abused
The confusion of a material world
And knowing how to live
He is confronted by a choice
Is it better to receive... or to give?
He will finally know
As the charlatans are revealed
They speak for themselves
Their motives no longer concealed
His ability to discern
And live on as a man
Will guide his future
As he discovers his plan
Fearful Mother remain strong
As you watch your bird fly away
You may well trust his wings
For you taught him to fly this way

What if the stars went round the earth
What if the day were night
And cows could fly and trees could cry
Would that resolve my plight?

And if the world were back to front
If the hands on clocks swept back
And the land would wash upon the sea
Our yellow sun turn black.

If all our children went to work
And the parents went to school
Then effect would have predestined cause
That would make fate a fool.

And if age reduced with passing years
And if dying started life
Then perhaps this nonsense that I feel
Would turn out to be right.
"It would be so nice if something made sense for a change."  - Alice

I would rather sit back and watch Scrubs than go out tonight.

throw my hair in a bun, put on my glasses and read to my lover.

press my cold toes into bare shins
I want to interlock fingers.
sit back-to-back and guess which knee he has cradled to his chest.

I want life to be simply complicated.

forget how many seconds make up an ounce.
I want hours to be measured in irrational numbers.

making shadow puppets on our naked chests,
we make breathing look like an art form.

knotted ribs and hip bones

...

that's all we really are.
i smoke cigarettees too **** much.
this is how you know nothing original will be said in this poem.

i use cigarettes as a social crutch.

i don't know about you
but when i'm in the mood to be honest
i'll tell you
i smoke cigarettes because
i want to be 'cool'.

because let's be honest:
i can't think of
a poet
a musician
an actor
an olympic swimmer
a hockey player
a president
a priest
a ****
a serial killer
or a psychiatrist
that's worth mentioning
that did not smoke

yes, i know you can
and go ahead,
but let me first
make a point instead

let me be honest,
if i can smoke a cigarette
and maybe be alone for
5.75 minutes
then maybe
a thought will occur to me
something outside this ******* world
and it will be good enough to write down,
just maybe.

let me be honest
i don't need you
with your judgemental eyes
and your cursory glances
walk away from me
at a party
i don't miss you
i am with her.

i garauntee if you asked
Whitman
Hemmingway
Freud
Phelps
Obama
about their actual relationship with smoking tobacco
they would have similiar descriptions.

but go ahead, tell me
about the hazardous effects of cigarettes
let's talk about the cancer
and the tar
and the disgusting phlem
that i will constantly have to eject
from my throat-hole
when i'm fifty.

go ahead, tell me about
******* people over
and ripping their minds out
and the sickness
and the disease
and how it's all so wrong.
it's as amusing to me as it is to you.
Mcdonald's will **** you.
Pall Mall will **** me.
you smell like a mix of all the men that came before you

like axe

like onions and garlic

like dirt

like man sweat

like an ******

like a muddy lake (i squish that gunk between my toes in pure ecstasy while cupping a tadpole in one hand and holding my dress up with the other)

a little bit like cigarettes (and you remind me of the music i once had in me(i think i'm losing my poetry)

you smell a little like a deck of cards
you smell like
a hot tent

you smell

like your couch
where i fall asleep sometimes
