They say I have not apologized
for following them around
during their time together.
I would have done anything
to be out and about with
them.

What I cannot remove inside
of me turned me into a little kid.
What I wanted and could not grab,
crying made me a mess.
Laughing was never at the
appropriate time.

Like shards of glass in my
eyes stabbing and puncturing
through my sockets while I watched
groups of people my age eating
and laughing together at round tables.

I'd eat but not at all laugh
in my corner all by myself with
a tray of food and plenty of space.

Though I proved to them that
no corner, no ungrateful child,
and no group that I could never
be a part of could ever stop me
from going out with my
arms wide open.

I would stand tall and shout
out loud words of gratitude
not my need dedicated to
anyone who ever noticed me,
looked in my healed eyes and
simply said Hi.

I am not apologizing,
I am just living life how
I am meant to and please.
The past is in the past,
I have blown away my grudges forever held
and my eyes are not scratched up
not one bit.

Nevertheless, adolescence proves
our adult strength.
But in seventh grade,
who would ever want to be friends
with the Bipolar girl?

I need no answer when I
ask
the friends
I have
today.
Whatever disorder or whatever one may deal with.
It will get better as life goes on.
I know you probably don't want me here
I'm sorry I left you at the airport alone
I'm sorry for not answering  your calls
I'm sorry for letting you think I don't love you
The truth is I do love you
and saying that out loud scares the hell out of me
The last guy I said I love you to hurt me
he not only broke my heart but he shattered my self esteem by criticizing my body on social media
and picking at every flaw he once claimed to love
It took such a long time
for me to build myself up from my ex's mean words
If I tell you that I love you
I am allowing the walls around me to fall down
I am exposing a part of me I have hidden away
out of fear of rejection
I didn't plan this
I didn't expect to meet you
and when I did I had no idea I would fall for you
the way that I have
When I cry you don't get mad
you don't tell me what to do
or try to distract me from my tears
You respect my feelings and you just sit in the moment with me without me having to ask you to
It scares me when you tell me I'm beautiful
my ex he never did that and if he did compliment me
it was only to get into my pants
When you tell me I am beautiful
I know you're not just talking about my body
You see things about me no one else takes the time to see
and you adore those things about me
Like that one night during the blackout you came over
and filled my room with candles
and you purposely got the ones that smelled like Christmas trees
and you told me "I know how much you love the smell of pine trees" but I never told you that
so when I asked you how you knew that
you said "I could tell by the way your eyes lit up when we watched The Polar Express for the first time together."
You take time to notice things about me and that makes me uncomfortable because I am used to being ignored
I like how when I drive your car you have that CD labeled "Mandie's Favorites"
and on that disk is every song you ever caught me listening to on repeat
and you always leave money in the cup holder
so I can grab a coffee from Starbucks because you know how much I love my coffee
When you told me you loved me
I got scared and ran away because I am not used to being loved so much
Your actions say it all though
You don't even have to say the words because everything you do screams "I LOVE YOU"
It's like I am always on your mind
and it's amazing that out of all the women in the world
you chose me
I know you are not my ex
You are far from it
I'm sorry for assuming the worst
and holding you up to a negative standard
After some thinking I have come to realize that I love you
I'm in love with you
and there is nothing I can do about it anymore
You're everything I want
You broke through my walls without me noticing
You see my flaws and love them without fear
I don't want to be afraid of love
With you I'm not scared of anything
You give me the courage to be fearless
in a way I never have been before
You complete me in every possible way
and if I could spend the rest of my life with anyone
it would be you

Don’t become infatuated
Don’t fall in love
Especially not with poets
Because they only ever exist in their words
They will write you love poems, and lengthy paragraphs
With words said in ways you have never heard before
You will fall in love, with love poems, the way they say their vowels, and the look in their eyes when they read to you
They will lull you to sleep with sticky sweet words
And they will speak of the colour yellow, in a new light
A new meaning will come to its definition
And it will slowly become your favorite colour
You will wear yellow dresses, and put daisies in every room
You will see the speckles of yellow in their brown eyes
But you will find them at three in the morning sitting in the bath tub, bathing in the words of metaphors
You will find them having an affair with Stanzas and Verses at the same time, sleeping with sonnets
You will see that poetry was always their mistress
At night they will no longer share blankets with you, but they will wrap themselves in ballads and couplets
You will only be able to express this new distance with eulogies
You will start seeing yellow everywhere
In the beds of your nails, and them hems of your skirts
Till you start seeing it so often that you will want to puke up every word they have ever said to you
You will realize that talk is cheap and Rhymes are easy
You will realize that poets only ever exist in their words
This is the final version
Don’t become infatuated

The sun boils over me
Hot flesh never smells sweet

There's still a God
He stares at me in streets
Burning my feet under asphalt

I don't know his name
But I'm sure he could take the swell of our star
And lick salty sweat

Your heat creates blisters in my skin
I'm feverish now;
The steam only rises higher

The sun never ceases creating craters in my layers
