Seventeen
Anna Thorpe Oct 2015
Seventeen's too young,
To be looking at two pink lines
Yesterday was college, cars, and boys
Today is crushed dreams, tears, and diapers
She is faced with a decision
Pro Life or Pro Choice
Life for me she chooses
Only at the expense of her dreams

Permanent Marker
Anna Thorpe Oct 2015
You took a permanent marker to my heart,
Scribbled your name like I was property.
You wrote lines in my mind,
Professing your fears and dreams.
Words so black and bold,
Reminding me of all my beauty.
You underlined everything I'm afraid of,
And blacked out all my sad memories.
You quoted my thoughts on love and life,
Highlighting your favorite parts.
You circled all my deepest opinions,
To bookmark them for a later date.
You left bullet points full of reasons,
Why you take my breath away.
You numbered my favorite words of wisdom
Just so you would always remember them.
You took a permanent marker to my heart,
And there in bold black ink, forever left your mark.

I Want to Believe
Anna Thorpe Feb 2013
I want to believe in fairy tales
I want to believe in glass slippers
And happily ever after's
I want to believe in prince charming's
And the slaying of dragons
I want to believe in magic
And all that comes with it
I want to believe evil queens
And poison red apples
I want to believe in fairy god mothers
And true loves first kiss
I want to believe in everything
Dreams are made of...

It's Easier That Way...
Anna Thorpe Feb 2013
I could look you in the eyes
And tell you everything my heart feels
I could trace the lines on your face
And tell you everything they say
I could lace my fingers with yours
And feel every crease of heart ache
I could touch my lips to yours
And feel every butterfly
I could tear down my walls
And open every piece of my heart

or

I could not say a word
And just walk away
Because it's easier that way

Halves of a Whole
Anna Thorpe Jan 2013
It was your mind that captivated me
Followed by your tantalizing body
Your sweet way of hypnotizing speech
Imagery of your hands enticing reach
Touching the depths of all my darkest secrets
Wrapping me with your arms like a blanket
Giving me just enough to always want more
You see into my soul like an open door
I dream of your beautiful lips
Hoping they will grace me with a kiss
Everything I want, but nothing that I need
One word can drop me to my knees
I wish you were a moment I could suspend
We’re running in circles and back again
Your beautiful spirit is taking its toll
We will always be two halves of a whole

Insatiable Desire
Anna Thorpe Jan 2013
It’s like looking in a mirror
Looking at you
An image of a soul
A little bruised and slightly broken
Masking the shambled past
With lines to a song, cigarette smoke
And the Rebel Yell Lingering on your breath
If you drink enough your numb
If you cant feel anything
Then nothing hurts
Those scares on your knees and hands
They are the failed attempts of the world
To push you down
But determinism flows freely through you
Proving everyone wrong who gets in your way
A rough tough and wild outside
With a  soft personal inside
Yes this image terrifies me
Yes this image makes me want to run
It makes me want to run to everywhere you are
Because this soul image is my insatiable desire

She Dances
Anna Thorpe Jan 2013
She dances and spins
To the music she feels
Surrounded by the freedom
To do as she pleases

She dances and spins
To the beat of a heart
Surrendering in the dark
Slowly pulling her in

She dances and spins
To the voice of a lover
Quickly taking her to places
She never thought she’d go

She dances and spins
To the melody of life
Writing the pages
Of her very own story

Live It
Anna Thorpe Jan 2013
Sit on the porch
Or play in the rain
Sit on the sidelines
Or get in the game
Watch the performance
Or dance on the stage
Swim with the sharks
Or watch from the cage
Sing along to every song
Or just listen to the beat
Learn how to fly or
Stay grounded on both feet
Whatever you choose
You only get one life
So live it for you

Sanity
Anna Thorpe Jan 2013
I’m done, throwing in the towel
The whole world is out to get me
Why can’t things just be easy?
I feel like I’m caged
Behind work, attendance, and grades
Suffocatingly overwhelmed,
Pushed, broken, and bound
To the degree I need
They say, to succeed
But should any degree,
Be worth my sanity

You
Anna Thorpe Jan 2013
You
11:30 am sharpe
Somehow I knew you’d be late
Still buzzed from last nights
Drinking yourself to sleep
The pain that you hide
Glows in the blue of your eyes
At a distance you stay
Keeping me arm’s length away
All I want is to love you
To take away your hurt
But you are a forever leaver
Never to be saved…

The Hurt in the World
Anna Thorpe Jan 2013
She cries for all of the hurt in the world
And wonders why cancer would destroy such a beautiful girl
Why would it take an innocent mans life
A mother of three children and another mans wife
Why would it attack such beautiful skin
Or suffocate another from the lungs within
Destroying everything that keeps one alive
Eating away the ability to survive
Leaving only distant memories
And forever living on in stories

The Choice
Anna Thorpe Jan 2013
I wish I could capture a moment
In more than just a fleeting glance
With more than just a single stance
There are so many faces I want you to meet
So many people you will never have the pleasure to greet
A picture is only worth so much
It will never replace a true touch
Or the sound of a special voice
If only you could have had the choice

Real Life
Anna Thorpe Jan 2013
So this is real life?
Nothing like you pictured
And hardly as you planned

There are no white horses
And shinning knights
Just fast paced days
Followed by sleepless nights

Disappointing solutions
To everyday problems
Endless dissatisfaction

That little sliver of hope
Is always in the back
Of your always busy mind
Just waiting for you to slack

Beauty is found
In all the small things
This helps ease the pain
And take away the sting

These harsh realities
Will always seem further
To the everyday dreamer

So this is real life?
Nothing like you pictured
And hardly as you planned

Can you...
Anna Thorpe Jan 2013
Can you feel it?
The sand between your toes
Can you smell it?
The salty sweetness in the air
Can you hear it?
The waves splashing on your feet
Can you taste it?
The salt on your lips
Can you see it?
The beauty the lies before you

Dancing With No Music
Anna Thorpe Oct 2010
“Slow, slow, quick step.
Slow, slow, quick step.
That’s it just keep repeating that!”
He’s nervous. It's cute.
He’s doing well.
Those eyes they speak volumes.
A ring of beautiful blue surrounds
The perfect black circles that are
The windows to his soul
I long for the moment our eyes meet again
Maybe he will see.
With every step I get a little closer.
To falling, tripping, stumbling.
For the most amazing
Creature to walk into my life
“Slow, slow, quick step.
Slow, slow, quick step.”
Falling in love.

Romas 16:19
Anna Thorpe Oct 2010
The sun shines bright this long summer day.
Its warms against my skin
I catch the gleam in your eyes.
Your eyes, they twinkle like the nights stars. Beautiful.
You quickly turn your head and continue strumming that 6 string
Hoping I didn't see you sneak a look.
Love shows in the sideways goofy smile you flash my way.
A love so pure, true and innocent so quick and passionate
The song is almost done.
Screaming little children remind us why we are really here.
But Excitement grows with the anticipation of what is to come.
My 1 hour of the day that is consumed by you.
Big Spring the place where my best kept secret lies.
My heart longs for that spot.
Complete and utter contentment wrapped in your arms.
Three minutes and counting…
Your glances become more frequent
I can read the excitement on your beautiful face.
The face that stole my heart that warm June night
The music is finally comes to a close
Romans 16:19 says…
The dream is over.

Smile
Anna Thorpe Oct 2010
Today I cry.
for the good
for the bad
for you
for me
for the ending
for the beginning
I just cried.
The tears flowed
Streaming like little rivers
Down my rosy red cheeks
Displaying the hurt
For the world to see
Exposing the secrets
This aching heart holds
Putting the pain on display
Just to see who
Comes to the rescue
No one
Rescuing is not
What the heart needs
Space, time, healing
A warm touch
A constant
Time
Tomorrow is a new day.

Maybe Tomorrow
Anna Thorpe Oct 2010
Today I will breathe,
I will close my eyes,
Inhale,
Breathe the breath of a new day.
Feel the happiness surround me
Like the wind surrounds the world.
Let my tears be dried
By the warmth of the sun
Ill smile
Like it never hurt
Ill laugh
Like I never cried
Memories of pain
Will dissolve
With the exhale
Only to be replaced
By the new life awaiting
The end of this breath
Maybe tomorrow…
I will breathe…

In a Music Man's Heart
Anna Thorpe Jun 2010
Lines to a song,
And a new melody,
In a music mans heart.

The road,
And the next show,
In a music mans heart.

She would give everything,
To be...
In a music mans heart.
Anna Thorpe Apr 2010
Spin.
Faster, faster.
Don't stop yet.
Just keep spinning.
Fall.
The little white sparkles
In the sky
Spin in a magical light show.
He takes me by the hand
But what he doesn't see
Is he takes me by the heart.
Star spinning he calls it.
Me,
I call it,
Falling faster and faster
for the boy of my dreams.
A boy,
Who sends me spinning
In a whirlwind of emotions
allowing me to completely
break free.
Only,
he will never know,
what he truly does
to me.
