NO MOON AT ALL

She cries because
there is no moon

in her window.

And can she sleep
with you and mummy

because....
there is a moon

in your window.

She drifts to sleep
in the harbour of our arms.

The moon asks
"Can I go now?"

I nod a yes.
Watch it tiptoe away.

Careful not to
wake her.

THE TREE IS TEACHING ME

The tree
is teaching me

the beauty
of its blossom

that it is not enough
to notice or like it

but that I must
love it.

The tree is preaching
to the converted

but I listen politely

as both branch and blossom
write their signature

upon this
Parisian evening.

I sit and sip
absinthe

watching myself
in the hall of mirrors

that this cafe
provides

as if all the people
that I've been

have come
to celebrate

this birthday.

I watch past selves
observe this self

I've come
to be

and hope
that they are happy

with
me.
red leaves,
hollows of water
and sun,
bright reflections,
the day drifts
opens the afternoon
like a love letter
softer for its layers
of bronze.
we dream like
an autumn sky,
shining in the
waters of a
haunting moon.
i put my
hand in yours,
get that rush
of fever, eye
seeking eye,
lip seeking lip,
leg seeking leg.

it is the end of the day
I do not believe in god
but I am on my knees
conflict with faith yet I pray
for my soul that is flawed
there I cried under the trees

leafs on my skin
feels like a beloved’s touch
stories of heartbreak
there all my pain will begin
waited for the call a bit much
longingly admiring a mistake

lonely in a room of mysteries
plunging into woes
aiming for a notice
isn’t it cruel to wipe the histories
sculptures of us froze
and all we have is a poem

Our love is like a bottle of wine
We've been drinking
A very, very long time--
What a joy it is to be with you,
Lifelong love of mine,
To bask in those glorious, blue eyes
And to know that I am thine!

We'll have our third glass together
And after we've finished it all,
We'll look at the bottle we've emptied
And find it again still full.
